Hi, I am off to Warsaw tomorrow and this is my last chance to try and get the information i need (I have been trying for months). I have one photograph of my Grandparents grave and I would love with all my heart to visit them. I have no information as to where it is but I am guessing Warsaw as this is where my Dad was born. Can anyone tell me the best place to go to try and find out what cemetery they are in. I leave late on Monday so if there is a registry office in Warsaw that I can go to and ask, this would be great as all internet searches come back with nothing. I hope someone can provide me with something. Thank you

The fact that your Dad was born in Warsaw does not mean his parents' grave is in Warsaw.

For Warsaw, there is a registry for the three main city cemeteries (Cmentarz Północny, Południowy, Wojskowy) which will give you the date of birth and the date of death and the exact place when that person is buried. However, some other important cemeteries (for example Cm. Bródnowski, Cm. Powązkowski) are excluded. I have just found my grand parents' grave using their search engine! Click the "wyszukaj grób" and then put in the surname or date of birth or date of death.

@Ziemowit
Thank you. I am aware it may not be Warsaw but this is my starting point as I remember being there as a child and have photographs. I also visited Krakow but if all fails I will try there next. I really was hoping to be able to go to a central records when I am in Poland. Is there such a thing? Online searches are hopeless as I have so little information x

Hi Diane,

I sincerely with you all the best in your search but manage your expectations as Ziemowit said there is no reason why the grave would necessarily be in Warsaw just because he was born there AND even if his grave is in the city that alone could be difficult to find.

I wish you the best of luck :)

I suppose there is not.

An idea would be to consult the administration of one of the Warsaw cemeteries and ask them for further guidance on the matter.
