Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

You cannot walk away in the UK

surely you just declare yourself bankrupt?

we will see if developers start to go bankrupt.

developers did not go belly up in 2008 as Poland was not really suffering during
the recession. in fact Poland more or less escaped untouched. Let's see if the Swiss Franc mortgage repayments have any influence
as that was a factor that was not problematic back in 2008

friends of mine in the industry are planning that developers are going to fold and that the market is
going to take a down turn. who knows if they are right or not.

one thing for sure is that you cannot possibly compare Ireland with its shameless overspending and ridiculously lapse lending
restrictions to Poland.

Work / JOB in Wroclaw for a Business Student fluent in ENGLISH/FRENCH/RUSSIAN/ROMANIAN [56]

have to considered setting some sort of trading company up?
you need a phone, computer and a chair and you are in business
your foreign language skills would come in handy that is for sure

the problems with MBA programs is that they prepare candidates to work in large corporations and rather stifle entrepreneurial spirit
in addition, everyone seems to have one nowadays so they are not the golden passport that they once were and there are some utterly terrible MBA programs in Poland. Wroclaw is a good one though

in many countries the university makes good connections with employers who visit the school and take 'the pick of the litter'
in Polish MBA schools you are rather left to your own devices

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

you can pay rent your entire life and never have anything to show for it except making your landlord richer
you have to weigh up whether you want to own your own place when you retire
as you will have trouble paying for the rent once you stop working

The situation with the house prices in Poland generally is that the sellers believe that their house is worth a certain
inflated price and will not budge. It will have to take something drastic like major developers going bust
to kick start price reductions. The developers will get desparate and flood the market with low price new builds.
the build quality will go to hell as they will order inferior windows etc, cut down on cement in the mortar etc in
order to save money

you have to remember that unlike the UK and the States if you cannot pay your mortgage you cannot
walk away and post the keys back to the bank. The bank gets a low price at an auction but at least
they got something and asks the government to bail them out

In Poland a debt collection company will chase you for the
rest of your natural life whilst your house gets sold at the best price on the open market.
This props the house prices up

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

I have read that Polish developers are getting deeper and deeper in debt - I think the prices will plummet in some year and a half/ 2 years

I have heard this from colleagues in the industry. they are expecting a significant price adjustment.
however they believe that this will not happen until developers start going bankrupt

I am happy to rent for the time being whilst I wait to see what will happen
with the market.

buying property in Poland at the moment can be likened to trying to catch a falling knife

Life / Vandalism on cars in Poland [64]

sorry to hear about your problems with the car

is there a guarded car park near to where you live?

which city do you live in?
I find that senseless vandalism of cars and joy riding is much less than in the UK
Outright car theft is a problem in Poland though

friends of mine once parked outside a guarded car park and they caught the guy
who worked at the car park vandalising their car, clearly he was touting for trade

Law / Is running a business in Poland very profitable? [33]

Were they described as such?

no, they were described as car mats

Tesco UK and PL sell many identical lines of clothing except the Polish prices are generally more expensive
if there is a line of clothing that you cannot get in the UK often the quality is awful

don't tell me, you know Tesco's master plan in Poland

Law / Is running a business in Poland very profitable? [33]

I have no reason to believe that Primark will be ultra cheapie cheap in Poland

look as Tesco with their 3 quid for a pair of jeans in the UK. Jeans in the Polish Tesco are four to five times more expensive.

Tesco clothes in Poland are much more expensive than in the UK and Tesco are shameless at ripping off Polish people

for example, I bought a set of carpets for my car and ... you guessed it... they were for a right hand drive car
could you return them? could you b*ggery
very nicely wrapped up so you could not see them in the packaging until you had brought them home

so Primark will be offering their 'fall apart in first wash' brand of high street fashion but including a Pole tax of their own

Decathlon rocks by the way. great quality, good prices, loads of choice

Work / Any (Solely) Anglophones that work in any other field other than teaching English? [3]

i work in engineering, importing injection moulding tooling in order to make car parts.
i speak Polish but not perfectly
the Poles really appreciate the fact that I have taken the time to learn their language

as I mainly target clients in Europe, I speak English all the time in any case
so I do not have to conduct business speaking Polish

i like it here. it is a good country
the quality of life is good here

in fairness I could do this business anywhere in the world as all you need is a laptop,
a phone and a chair

I have a friend who is German who is buying and selling steel but he does not speak any
Polish at all. Again all you need is a phone line and you are in business

Life / Mosquitoes in Poland [40]

he swears by Tiger Balm to relieve the itching
might be worth a try

News / Possible consequences of the Eurocup 2012 in Poland. [14]

The subject about foundations it's interesting as well 'cause they'll have to build a lot of roads, stadiums...

the 2012 footie cup was the perfect excuse to have the roads finished in Poland by a concrete deadline

they still hope to link Poznan to the German border by next year and some of the train stations are getting spruced up but apart from that

there have not been too many improvements

they did a great job with the stadiums though. however as for the promises of getting the roads sorted they were just promises.

I do not believe that there is going to be a big problem with hooligans. I met some Man City supporters who had been to Poznan and they

said there was no trouble for their game. I remember when the footie cup was in Germany and the Polish hooligans were going to go to Germany

and cause mayhem .... and nothing happened

Real Estate / WOODEN HUNTERS TOWERS ON MY LAND in POLAND.....is it legal....? [59]

You asked a question.
You assumed what the answer would be and then you gave him shhit for your own answer to your own question. How many of you live in your brain?

Even if he is not a vegetarian, he clearly stated he would not shoot any wild animal. Your attitude is like stating that someone who is not into blond women is double faced when he screws a brunette

I did not know what the answer would be and that is why I asked the question.

Your opinion means nothing to me.

Real Estate / WOODEN HUNTERS TOWERS ON MY LAND in POLAND.....is it legal....? [59]

i would not shoot any wild animal unless it was going to eat me , or i was starving and needed to eat it , or if it was in pain and suffering...

are you a vegetarian?
if not this smacks of double standards
you are happy to eat meat as long as someone has done your dirty work for you

as far as I am aware the hunting circles in Poland can shoot game on another's farmer land unlike in the UK

the game belongs to the region as opposed to the farmer those crops they are helping themselves to

hunting towers cost money to build so once the hunters learn that you are scaring all the game away they will hopefully move the tower to another place

it is waste of resources to have a tower where they are not going to be able to shoot anything from

if you are planning on leaving Poland anyway why get so worked up about it?

Law / Those of us in Sterling GBP are having our backsides kicked [35]

Shouldn't trade unions be apolitical, fighting for the best possible deal for their members irrespective of political inclinations?

this never happened in the UK with the TUC and the Labour party being in each others pockets for the best part of a century

Travel / Things to see along eastern Poland by bicycle [42]

I do think you're exaggerating a bit aren't you?

ok hot shot, you come on a forum not knowing anything about Poland and then argue with people giving you sound advice before visiting a region which is one of the most poverty stricken areas of the EU

no really just leave your bicycle unlocked and unattended, it will be fine

don't forget to pack your cycle helmet, you may be needing it

Travel / Częstochowa - could give me some good info on the place? [14]

it is friendly enough, ok for a day trip, not a great place to live

if you want to meet native English speakers you can contact some of the English language schools, someone will want to hang out with you

the village and castle of Olsztyn are great for a day trip
Poraj is pretty cool too
