Mosquitoes in Poland

Anyone else getting bitten to b*ggery by the little fcukers at the moment?

No. From what I hear there are less than usual this year.

this year only twice when i was at seans. but lets face the truth mate it doesnt hurt as much as painballing.

Myszolow appears to be right. Last summer, I had bites the size of golf balls but I seem to have been let off the hook this year. Only a couple from the wee blighters.

Funnily enough it's in Warsaw that I keep getting bitten. Haven't got bitten once in Krakow.

Kraków has officially been declared a mosquito-free zone ;) ;) Didn't you know? :)

take some vit B complex, or eat more food containing those vits, although there is no evidence that it helps.

Well, I just took one of the f*ckers out, so I suppose the season is upon us.

Other than keeping your windows shut, how do you keep yourself from getting covered in little itchy bumps (...from mosquitos....)?

Yeah..the little bloodsuckers are awake up here in Zachodniopomorskie...

I am lucky in that i don,t come up in itchy bumps when they bite me...in fact i let em bite me , as they can,t fly away when they have their sucking tube in you..and i have the satisfaction of squashing them...

I've had a few 'kopruchy' here already. Little blighters!

I'm having flashbacks of the savage little ba$tards, nearly biting me to death last summer in Poland. I feel as though I've developed more insect bites, while making this post.

A dirty little annoying buzzing focker of a yoke, kept me awake last night.

Luckily, they spray our town Puławy as I live 200 metres from the Wisła, so we never get any issues with Mosquitoes, but the DDT that they use kills off all the local alcoholics that sleep outside at night, so it's a win win really lol

and mosquito's drink what - sweat or eat skin, they are parasites but jeeze? Was that from the biologist aunt? You best get back to school on that one....

Insect repellant needs to contain DEET to be effective against those little buggers. The US military has some beneficial gain to society..providing it doesn't cause cancer of course.

There are trillions of mosquitoes in the evening in Bialystok.

I ever never seen brave and wild mosquidos like this, they never give up, one day they fallow us maybe 500 m ,I beat them with my shirt but again and again attack like horror movie. But I never seen mosquido fog truck and fog machine in poland why they dont use in street? I think it works. İs it dangerous for healt that fog?

they would have been spraying against tiger mosquitos that carry dengue fever so yes, it is likely to be a dangerous fog

It is getting colder now so mosquitos should be going into hibernation. Typically mosquito's hibernate when temperature drops below 50 degrees fahrenheit. Mosquito's like wet area's and they need standing water to lay their eggs. Poland has a drier climate although after a big rain storm in sprin or fall, or in the boggy areas of northeast Poland and eastern Poland there are probably more of them.

In summer mosquitoes are horrible !! You have to put on ALOT of repellent or else you'll be covered in red swollen bumps.
In winter the mosquitoes are very rare and yes they usually do go into hibernation.
So save the repellent for the warmer and wetter late spring and early summer months :)

there are small pools of water around after thaws every spring these can depending on the amount of thawed snow and the subsequent weather either dry up already in spring as early as end of April (in southern Poland) or they can actually retain water for the whole summer (which means lots and lots of bloddy mosquitos) - a hot spring can mean mosquitos as early as the first half of may

this summer was very humid in Poland - this meant plenty of mosquitos generation after generation - and again if you think mosquitos are bad there are worse things (but only locally - I happen to live in a place these worse things breed in the bogs) :

(the only positive side about these little buggers is they tend not to enter homes - but if you want to do anything outside after 7-8 pm forget it - they will eat you alive - oh fortuanately they tend to appear in waves during the warmer months - mostly 2 waves late May-June and then August - sometimes there is only one significant wave)

A sissy! I was once dying of thirst and hunger for several hours because I could not take my mosquito net off and I lost my way in swamps because I could not see the sun through the dense cloud of mosquitoes. That was somewhere NW of Wawa, Ontario. [slight exaggeration :-)]

if a mosquito bites you sucks some body fluids and then is somehow chased off (it is quite rare thing indeed) it can carry some virus - I think it is still pretty difficult for the virus to return into the sucking mechanism of a mosquito so it could possibly be injected into another person in case another person is targeted within minutes
