English people attitude towards Poles?

I heard though that some London building sites are now refusing to employ Poles because of shoddy work. I was told that at the beginning the work was enthusiastic, but now its not so good anymore, and they don't want to take risks. A person told me of vacancy signs saying "Sorry No Polish".

Has anybody else seen anything similar? It has only been starting over the past 4 weeks apparently.

We had some kitchen work done by Poles, everyone raved on how good they work and are not lazy like the brits. Well They did the work on time, fitment and quality was horrible! I had to get them to re do it at their cost and time.

Also I would not let them do any gas work, as they are not Corgi registered, having them do anything like that would be a big risk.

Yet another sad story from a jealous Brit seeking to undermine the hard work of Joe Pole.

The fact is that many people in the building game are not qualified. It's learn as you go. But there comes a time when you get found out.

There are qualified and unqualified workers from all nations.

True.

But I suspect that a bigger percentage of unqualified Poles are riding on the backs of others.

We could also say the same about a number of native speakers working as EFL teachers in Poland.

That would be very true. However, don't include me in that. I'm not an EFL teacher.

If you are looking for a HGV drivers job in Jersey, a Company called Condor-Logistics is always looking.

Neither, am I.

Opportunity and lack of competition allows for market entrance to those less qualified. It's not, however, the case that qualifications can gurantee quality. What's more lack of formal training has never stopped people of natural ability and determination succeeding in all walks of life.

True again. But I stick to my first two points.

My guess is that you hired probably a teacher, a baker and a student of sociology, hehehhe... :)

Johan, we have to be honest about it. How many hours has an native speaker with one class a month? Mostly one or two. How can they show what they can do having only 45min - 1,5 hr with one class in a month? Also even if they're not real teachers I wouldn't want to compare my English knowledge with anyone of them :-) You would also lough if a British guy would tell you, that his Polish is better than yours....

Besides I know one guy from the USA who teaches or was teaching in Siedlce not being a real teacher but having a quality of a teacher if not better. All students appreciated classes with him.

I can agree with that.

Actually, we should blame our language schools for hiring native speakers just to catch more students. It's an ugly procedure. Nothing but empty pronises. They promise us the students that they have a native speaker so we sign up not telling us at the same time that we'll have only between 45min. and 1,5 hr. lesson in a moth with him. Then they promise the native speaker many hours amonth which usually is a lie too. The conclusion of the story is, no one is happy but the owner of the school and this is very sad. I thought that the customer is the king. Oh well, I'm just a little bit bitter because I really enjoyed lessons with my teacher and they let him go telling us the students some crapy lies like always........

Yes, I must say I agree with you, FISH. Certainly when I was in Moscow twenty years ago as a young English student the Polish (and there were a hell of a lot of them) never had any time at all for the English yet now we must stomach 600,000!

The Poles come to England to take the lower unskilled jobs but the cost of keeping them here in the U.K. is more than their value. We have to give them free schooling for their children and free medical services, so on the whole, it is really a very short sighted policy recruiting all these East Europeans to England for jobs filling shelves in Tesco for five pounds an hour.

Ahh he's just a troll. You'll get no logical response :) They come and go here. It's the only place they "think" they'll be heard. So pathetic.

Not when you get to know them as well as I do.

Yawn.....

It's an old complaint. Try complaining to your government instead of in here where you make NO difference.

...and you shouldn't be placing a value on people.

Because there are people like Mike who talk sh*t about the PL. They are just miserable people that will never be happy. Look at all of his posts complaining. I just feel sorry for people like that. He's only 1 of few that come here and slag the PL off.

Actually, this is another common complaint about the Poles. Sometimes they start off with good intentions and can do something well but they never know when to stop and they then try to promise the earth to get more and more work. We had a Pole who told us he knew all about electricity and nealy burnt down my house. I had to get in another electcian, an Englishman, I hasten to say to re do all the work. Be on your guard, to find work Poles will tell you anything you want to hear.

oh...I know the PL so well. LOL....You're a joke.

Well ,no, not really, as I have been married to one for the last fifteen years so I do know what I am talking about!

jealously get you no where my friend...

Its not jealousy when I have to pay twice to complete the same work because the standard of workmanship is so bad, is it?

Actually, this is another common complaint about the Poles.

michal, like with any company or contracted 0ut businesses, these guys you hired
could have been less then credible, but that dont mean the whole population of
electricians are like that, we have same problem here, and if one guy does a crappy
job, you dont pay till he fixes it, and not all take their time and do it right and they dont have to be polish to do a crappy job, so your trying to shoot down the polish over one

small group of contractors , well, sorry, I think your grabbin at straws...

People in general, depending on how well you checked his sources and background
can be lazy, and not credible, so if you hired them, and didnt go thru the normal
process just to save a few bucks. it is your fault... case dismissed!!
