Yesterday one of my students from Germany asked me this question.
He was told by many ppl that when he comes to PL, he must be very very cautious, because in PL ppl steal a lot, espacially if someone is a foreigner. He was scared of conversating in English with me, while walking through Nowy Świat and Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw (!)...
I live in Warsaw all my life and nothing like this never happened to me here. My partner is a foreigner and also nobody was never trying to steal anything from him here.
Why always we (Polish ppl) have to be responsible for some stupid Polish folks, who used to go in the past to Germany to steal their cars etc. Anyways, is it more like urban myth or really Polish folks steal there a lot, so German ppl are scared to speak foreign language, even while walking through the most beautiful street in Warsaw full of foreigners on Saturday afternoon?
listen every country has bad people just because in certain areas of poland the thieves are bad, it doesnt mean everyone who comes from poland is a thief look at the brits on holida in the med they are terrible gadka szmatka polish forum
The guy didn't have any intentions to offend me , since I was his teacher.
My problem is what other foreign folks, I assume German ppl, told him, that he was so scared of being robbed in PL and told me he was affraid to speak English, so he will not be robbed on the street. (!)It's like paranoia. I was walikng through the most expensive, beautiful streets in Warsaw with him (Krakowskie Przedmiescie, Nowy Swiat).
What did you expect Germans think about Poland ? Some time ago I read about a survey about Poland made on a group of young people, and one of the questions that stuck in my mind was 'How far is Polish border away from Berlin ?' Most of the answers were 'About 500 km'...

Isn't it German propaganda/prejudice?
I was today in WHSmith bookshop and looked trough travel quide about Krakow .....it says that Krakow is one of the safiest towns in Poland. ( I didn't check what they say about Warsaw , I will) But it is probably like anywhere in some places after dark isn't very safe.
Any Germans I have met haven't done me any harm...but their country and governments over the last century have been a blot on humanity....can we separate both....why not rope in all the expansionist powers in the world....one of which used to be Poland!
Its a tough question which most people will have difficulty in answering!
I don't know if I like them or dislike them...same with lots of countries........
So your answer is 0 and the score is still 3-1 for "Good Germans", and the "bad Germans" scored only one goal thanks to my vote:) :) Go! GO! "Bad Germans"!!:) :)
Well let's say that If I DISLIKE them they are bad - that's my SIMPLIFICATION. But I would like to have a honest answers - thanks for yours, to know if i'm the only one with great DISINCLINATION TOWARDS GERMANS.
I like their cars....oh and there was a German Foreign Exchange student in my class many years ago....Guenther was his name....he was pretty cool.....yeah, I'd say I like Germany and Germans.
Well if your are talking about their political machine than I don't like them......but the Germans I have met and the products I have used have all been wonderful.
I mean what you feel in your heart when you think Germany or Germans, remember that Politician view originate from peoples, Hitler was chosen by peoples, they knew what was his politic view and they voted YES WE WANT YOU.
