But back to Warsaw pubs - what's wrong with them? Some great places to go drinking down Nowy Swiat.

Bar Lemon - great place :-) ...... not sure what street that was in though

Is that the one that has a bar downstairs, and a kind of upstairs. Lots orange tables. I think that its on a corner. Ehm... how's that for a vague description LOL!!

Funnily enough Lemon had a pretty bad reputation last year. Two of my mates were beaten up by the bouncers and I must add that neither of my mates can be considered English yobs, stag party types or troublemakers. Went there a few times but found it uncomfortable to sit around in (not mentaly but physically!). By the way it's on Sienkiewicza.

I still have to keep stressing that the best places are the wee pubs behind Nowy Swiat in the former little shops, another 2 opened last week!

You are right! Those little pubs are the best in Warsaw for a hassle-free chill out time, no dress code, tons of pretty girls, and cheap beer!

I would like to write something too. After my trip to Warsaw I dont think it is a boring city. I think that is seems very monumental, everything is so big and serious. In compare with Krakow, maybe it is not so fun city and the city for the common tourists. The city itself is nice, but some of the high-rises does not have a good effect to the city look. For example, those huge grey commieblock-like towers visible from the centre. It is really unpleasant look.

I mentioned it already, but surely Bratislava has got to be worse.

Actually, I just looked it up on this internet thing (hey, has anyone tried this internet thing? There's loads of stuff on it. You could spend your whole life there if you weren't careful!) and bits of it look quite nice.

My fiancee concurs. She said that it was a lifeless and soulless crock of poo. I have been there twice and found it to be as she described it. Full of skinheaded losers and dull buildings.

It's not the best capital city in Europe but to put it down there with Brussels is going too far. Brussels- where watching the grass grow is the major spectator sport.

Seanus, Warsaw is far from boring when you know it. Maybe your fiancee didn't let you off the leash;)

I wasn't with my fiancee either time. Oh, it's an enormous place so I can't form a rounded perspective based on 2 short visits. The food options are much better so many baby is happy ;)

The leash is reserved for special occasions ;)

Any in particular? I was there the Sunday evening before Christmas day and the place was pretty much deserted

For your information, Polish people celebrate Xmas Eve. This is the most important night. That is when the tree is decorated (as oppose to doing it weeks ahead), the family has special meal together and presents are exchanged. Another nice tradition that night is - there is always an extra plate on the table for an unexpected guest or lost traveler.

Even if it happens to be an arrogant, never satisfied Pom like you.
And that's why all the bars were empty: everybody was drinking @ home that night. LOL

The most boring capital cities are probably the ones that were specifically built to be capital cities and therefore have little history and very little of any interest other than being capital cities.

I actually googled "most boring capital city", and in the first page, two of the results I found were in Australia. Okay, so only one can really be considered to be a true capital city, and that is Canberra, a city that was made to be boring. The two I found on that search page that were in Europe were Brussels and Helsinki, neither of which I have visited, so I wouldn't know. I have only ever been to four true capital cities: London, Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw. I spent very little time in Paris, not enough time to actually see or do anything, and my stay there was actually quite boring, but not an honest reflection of the place itself.

Does it really matter if Poland's capital is not one of the world's great cities? Poland has other cities that are more interesting.

German friends of mine say that Bonn is a particularly dull place, and that was the capital of West Germany for how many years?

Warsaw is fun if, A) You are in a 5 star hotel. B) If you take taxi's everywhere C) you are prepared to blow $4000 in two days. Otherwise naf all too talk about.
