Work / I'm relocating in Wroclaw.. to learn Polish and teach English [11]

Merged: Moving to Wroclaw, getting a job?

Thinking of making a move to Wroclaw. What are the chances of getting an ok job for a non polish speaker with a science degree and experience of working for the UK government? I have IT skills, but no knowledge of programming. I can build and troubleshoot computers, physically fit(!), fast learner, willing to work hard.

Am i likely to be only able to be an English Teacher?

UK, Ireland / Polish people in UK not reporting crime. [26]

Maybe some of the people who have suffered from crime are in the country illegally, or are scared of being deported, and so they do not want to go to the police.

how can you be illegal in UK, if you're Polish?

You could be working here illegally and it may be something the police check if you report a crime.

I would hope a criminal, no matter who the victim is, should be caught and unpunished. If someone can commit a crime against a Pole then they can do the same to anyone else be they a Brit or however.

Life / Polish attitudes towards drinking alcohol [72]

Why is excessive drinking viewed in an okay light in polish culture

Go to lots of countries not just Poland and the culture is the same. In peaceful middle England i was getting pissed and taking drugs at 13.

Rafik, calm down chum. Anyone with at least half a brain knows that the guy is talking out of his dupa.
Not all Brits are Pole haters btw.

Love / Getting married?? Keeping parents happy etc... Big Polish family. [9]

From the little i know you and your partner go to 4-5 half day sessions at your local catholic church, with other couples, and are 'coached' and have discussions about marriage and how to make it work long term. There is a catholic slant on these sessions but there are in no way a recruitment campaign or guilt trip for non catholics.

By the way i am a non-catholic.

History / German Deaf/Mute able to give voices to Hitler's personal videos...scary [29]

psychopathic serial killer comes to power

Who did Hitler personally kill (apart from himself)? Im sure it is easier to order a killing rather than pull the trigger yourself and as such i do not think he was as you have described. Im not defending him in any way but he cannot be compared to the likes of Charles Manson.

Language / Double entendres in the Polish language? [37]

The best double entendres are in the 'Carry On' films and also the 'Lovely, wobbly, randy old ladies' from Harry Enfield and Chums.
"Oh what a lovely pair"
"Just up my backpassage, oh young man!"
