UK, Ireland / Money transfer from Poland to England? [13]

try worldpay.
that is the system that hsbc uses if i transfer money from uk to germany. charge is 9gbp...

another option cheaper than 80zl should be transfer via paypal. i calculated it once and the overall charge is around 9-10gbp as well...

Love / Polish Girlfriend obsessive and not trusting [59]

Polish women are proud. Then, when they love, it is not "a bit", it is absolutely.

very well said... and it sounds somewhat familiar... :-)

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

humour is for british people a very good way of dealing with hard and difficult situations, be it personal or national ones. i never found people anywhere on the planet being so easy in laughing about themselves. ( if not they would go mad everytime they do NOT win the world cup, even if it was their time... or don't even qualify for the european cup...).

Bubba said it very good a few posts earlier...
and i am 100% with isthatu on this one. at least for the last few posts.

common sense and courtesy are also very wide spread amongst the british... so they have a very good feel with and towards who they can joke about what. and if they ever get it wrong you still can go into a fistfight and have a pint together afterwards...

easy... just as imentioned at the beginning...

Love / Polish Girlfriend obsessive and not trusting [59]

sounds to me like quite a few male users on here got dumped by a polish girl and therefor try to describe them in a bad way in two sentences...

what springs to mind
- no character can be described in only two sentences, apart from those people who are just 'plain stupid', there even two words are enough)
- you guys must be some real men, if you can't handle a girl (or any other being with a bit of character...)

think of the following (just my own experience)... if all polish women are after your money and you think they look so sexy (up to a certain age, of course...) than get the best out of it. treat her well at the beginning and pay for everything. than gradually pay less and less... you'll see what will happen. she might run away which is good because obviously it wasn't worth it anyway. or she gives you a lot of attention to make you pay again which is good because everyone wants attention.

you see you can't loose...

but still you hear a of frickin moaners on here who can't just tell the truth... there seems to be a quality about these girls, and it looks like you moaners just miss your exes... bitter...

i also don't think that these girls are only sexy until there mid twenties. girls in their thirties know a lot better what they want and are far more confident and conscious about themselves... now that is what i call sexy!

to complain about a girls' looks is quite funny. us men only need to look into a mirror to realise that most of us are not really becoming particularly handsome when we develop bellies and loose our hair... ;-)

and by the way...
above characteristics are more or less strong not only with polish women but with all women... that is what made tehm attractive to cavemen already... ;-)

Life / Polish man finds wife working at brothel [43]

very two faced story... from both of them.
good they divorce now...

would be interesting who is blaming who for what... and who initiated divorce?

the wife works in a brothel... nothing wrong with that if her husband would have known about it.
the husband visits a brothel... also okay if he doesn't get at home what he needs (and his wife approves).

but then going into a brothel to see that your wife is one of those who'd give you what your wife doesn't give you at home... hilarious! lol

Lots of wives do so, e.g. in Germany

heard these stories. it is the extremes of the current economical situation and not common for all germans though. i would definitely not approve my wife/gf doing so... would be interesting to see figures about it...

Life / Do Polish people tend to stick together? [49]

from my experience and my (polish) girlfriend's...

i tried to avoid germans in the first two years or so in england, simply because i came here to learn about the culture and the language. it does not help then to meet fellow countrymen and keep on talking your mother tongue...

my girlfriend used to share a house with a polish couple and they were speaking polish at home (quite naturally). since she moved in with me about a year ago her english improved dramatically (even if i am still far from perfect ;-) ).

when i met germans in the supermarket it was strange to suddenly hear your own language but i tend to ignore it... back home i would not start to talk to strangers in a supermarket either. so why should i do so over here? one strange effect: i started guessing peoples education level and nativity by their accent...

for my girlfriend the situation is exactly the same...

i do meet some german friends occasionally but as we are all now for quite some time abroad we are stuck a bit in the english language so that most conversations begin in english and after some time we switch to german...

my girlfriend was seeing more polish people right from the beginning and naturally they communicate in their mother tongue.
we do have more polish friends than german...

i tried at the beginning not to be too much in touch with my family in germany as i wanted to dive into everything english and disappear for a while. in the meantime i appreciate everything 'german' far more than i ever did before.

my girlfriend always had a big connection to her home and family and still misses it... (that's why we will eventually move back to Berlin, so she's closer to Szczecin)

everyone has to understand that when you go somewhere new most people tend tlook out for something familiar and people that share same interests in some field. that is often easier to find with your fellow countrymen. that is valid not only for polish people but for everyone who decides to live somewhere else...

it would be good if everyone could make this experience and we would have far less stupid talk about immigration...

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

Would you be happy if your childs primary school suddenly had say 10 non Polish speaking kids in each class and your child lost out due to all the resources being pumped into the non polish kids?

probably not. we had the same problem in berlin in areas with many turkish families. people on here should not forget that this is not the immigrants fault, but the governments.

so everyone on here is sending their complaints in the wrong direction...

the nhs was in a crisis even before the polish wave as you say yourself, but still there are people on here who paint a picture that the nhs would work fine if there were no poles in the uk...

how stupid is that??

UK, Ireland / Rules on Car Tax on Polish vehicle in UK [20]

fuel in Poland costs almost £1 per litre

when did that happen?? i have just been there after christmas and fuel was still way cheaper...

UK, Ireland / Rules on Car Tax on Polish vehicle in UK [20]

it would be fair, if that money was spent on improving Polish road infrastructure

yeah...

i know where you coming from.
nevertheless almost everywhere else fuel is more expensive plus you have to pay seperate road tax on top (which is usually used in the same way as in poland, if you know what i mean...)

under these circumstances i would be happy stuffing the hole in polands finances than any other country's... ;)

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

Im afraid the influx of Polish people just highlighted and possibly made people sit up and look at the state of England....

bravo!
that is where some people on this forum should stop blaming everything foreign (mainly poles in this case) for "britains decline", and instead address their own inabilities to the right institutions for a change...

UK, Ireland / Rules on Car Tax on Polish vehicle in UK [20]

Road tax in Poland is included in fuel price

really???

they do not pay anything to the gov apart whats deducted from the anyway cheap fuel?
wow! that is very progressive and actually very fair...

How would anybody know it was not just a tourist visitor?

it's all in the paperwork. you might be lucky until your tuev (german mot) runs out after, in the best case, 24 months'...

you can only have your car as a tourist untaxed in england for up to 6 months. after that period you are the longer part of a years period in this country and so you have to pay your tax where you live. that is valid not only for income tax but for your car as well...

at some point you will be asked to register your car on an english plate anyway. and to get that you have to have paid your car tax anyway...

Real Estate / Poland property boom over???? [54]

it is far cheaper to buy propertiy in Germany than it is in Poland now!

have you got any figures? or further info on that?

i am sure that is not for entire germany's average. property in the east is generally cheaper than in the west as many buildings are deserted because people had to follow the work (ie gone to the west of the country). maybe that is where you might be able to buy property cheaper than in poland...

but to be honest i don't really believe that this is generally true... maybe regionally or even only in the odd case...

i'd love to have further info on that....

thanks

Real Estate / Poland property boom over???? [54]

Even Germany post-1989 wasnt at that levels and you know better than me what happened next.

oh yes, i do. we had some pretty cr**py two decades... many of the reasons were homemade. the two biggest ones were the reunification in which our economy had to cope with 17 million more people plus a derilict country, and afterwards we decided to sponsor the currency union...

even the strongest economy would have had to suffer.

but mainly for the same reasons as we now tackled the original main problems (kind of), we can look forward to a moderate growth, not only with the economy in general but also in the property sector...

okay. that has not so much to do with the situation in poland but i wanted to mention it to not leave your post unanswered and also to point on that the situation in different countries can be influenced by world economy in different levels...

lets hope the best and keep our eyes open...

Love / Is it worth it, is my Polish guy trying to avoid me??? [49]

it's a trust thing.

i am with my polish girlfriend now since 1.5 years and at the beginning had the same problem that she was not quite sending as many texts as i wished (and did myself...). i was worrying especially when she went back home to her family and friends and i did not her of her...

over time we learnt both that i have to trust her and she learnt that this is easier if she occasionally answers my texts, too... up to the point now where i can't keep up with her phoning or texting me... which feels nice by the way.

the solution always is somewhere in the middle and communication is key...

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

It's the almighty piece of paper. It works everywhere

well...

i had a completely different experience in the uk.
nowhere else on this planet have i met trusty employers who will give you a chance if you have the right attitude without even asking for any paper.

and that was the case in every job i took so far...

definitely a different story back home in germany. and probably in the us.

Magdalena. i guess you haven't met the right people and if you are unhappy with how your agencies find you jobs or work... change them. there are so many out there that are actually willing to help...

Real Estate / Poland property boom over???? [54]

Deise 07:

all you say makes perfectly sense but some points have me thinking.

i am working as an architect in Leeds and so far we are still very busy. our office in Cork is not suffering yet either. both might be because the company is big enough to be able to deal with the effects.

back in germany, which is my country of origin, the whole development sector starts kicking in right now, which is partly due to the general rise out of the recent recession in germany.

nevertheless i believe that germany and even more poland are not so much dependent on the developments in the US (other than in the UK) so the effects should not be as harsh as in the uk or ireland.

i know of quite a few irish investors we work with who are still very interested in investing their money in polish developments (or elsewhere on the continent)... well... they apparently have to if they have nothing to invest in at home anymore...

maybe i am a bit over sensitive with my perceptions for the above reasons (i am from germany for those who don't know yet).

nevertheless i believe these people really have to work on their way of 'making a point' if they do not want to be potentially perceived as racists.

a constructive discussion makes sense. aggression rather doesn't...

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

don't get me wrong. i am not denying it. but i definitely do not tolerate if people with (apparently) limited intelligence, like there are some in this thread again, think blaming the foreigners is the solution.

once and for all. it is NOT a solution to the problem.

germany has gone (and in a way still is) through the same thing and unfortunately there are many people complaining and blaming in the same way as it seems to happen here now. the trouble is that with our history talking that way is perceived in a very ugly way by others. that the uk does not have such an extreme period in their history does not make people think twice before giving these comments as you hear them in every second thread.

but that does not make them necessarily right...

wrong or right, its inevitable

peoples behaviour is not inevitable.

i have the impression we are talking of two different things here.
yes. mass immigration can become a problem if not dealt with in a proper way.
no. blaming the immigrants is not the solution...

that was what i meant when i wrote

which is as wrong, isn't it?

the_falkster

then the immigrants are the ones who are going to be looked at to blame...

The reason you recieved the answer "stupid" was Im afraid because there are simply no parrales with your analogies.

thanks for clearing that up...

very good answer to the original topic from osiol, by the way...

Just after I gave a whole list of answers.

that might be as he apparently lost track of his topic...

britain has a lot to offer by the way, not only for poles, or workers as was mentioned somewhere before...

osiol has pointed many things out very nicely. and the most important thing surely is the right mindset and i am happy he did not point out the many bad things you can see here in everyday life as again that would not be the idea of that topic...

one thing regarding the eu slack off...
germany (amongst others) has put regulations in place to ensure that not all new members' workers can come to work there immediately. germany is member of the eu, if i remember rightly, so there are mechanisms to avoid mass immigration if it is seen as a problem by your government. the uk's government didn't see the problem.

is that a fault of the people that decided to try a better life and came to the uk?? i don't think so...

Love / How to go about dating a polish girfriend? [27]

maybe there is an element of polish girls who strike up a relationship with western guys just for personal gain

(@used: this is not addressed only to you but your quote was just suitable...)

apart from the fact that it is not limited to polish girls (as was already mentioned here) i am interested in something else...

what kind of men are out there that you all can't deal with that?
it is normal and not even bad that everyone tries to gain the most for themselves. completely understandable that many girls are after material stuff, who wouldn't? if i knew that i only had to ask for something to get... i certainly would ask.

guys, there is a certain element of educating and getting to know each others ways in every relationship.

my girlfriend (yes, she is polish) does the same if we go shopping. it isa case of telling things as they are. i.d rather spend money to help her get a better job. i simply explain that if she wants all these nice things she needs to help with the money earning thing as it doesn't grow on trees...

then there is another element to relationships where greed (in the extreme case) seems to be an issue...
i am not the very best housekeeper but my gf enjoys housework (to an extent!). this frees up my time and mind to my work and earn money... housework is work too. doesn't she deserve to be rewarded from time to time?

and finally it makes me happy to see the sparkle in her eyes when i buy something nice (sometimes a bunch of flowers works the trick already as it shows that i care).

yes, she was coming from a rather poor background but i made this money thing clear quite early, not because i had too but because i wanted to. i want a partner who feels equal.

i know that it is tempting to throw the money out and act as "the man", but in the long term that doesn't work. yes. from time to time it is a good thing. but if you come to the roint that your girl is expecting you to spend money on her, simply say no and explain. the earlier the better...

if she doesn't like it and dumps you for that... it wasn't worth it anyway, right?

as the beatles sang: "money can't buy me love"...

unless you specifiy "we" a bit more, in which case i would apologise...
