UK, Ireland / My friends upset at Brits.... [51]

Good. I don't like too much attention. Just want to be perceived 'normal', not 'Polish', if you get my drift.

The less the better. It's somehow a good sign - that Poles perhaps are becoming a part of the community that doesn't (want to) stick out so significantly like some other minorities.

My workmates buy various tabloids except of Daily Mail (Scottish versions) and sometimes I browse through them trying to find something anti- pro- or just about Polish people and things but I can hardly ever spot anything. Apparently Scots don't have issues with Poles.

UK, Ireland / Poles in the UK Turn Out to be Star Waiters and Waitresses. [13]

I wrote about the odds, not certainty. But if you encounter rude people in supposedly good (and more expensive) restaurants, the management is to blame too for choosing the wrong people, regardless of their nationality.

(just a terrorist movement who threatened to blow up Jamie Oliver

I think stuffing him forcibly with several deep-fried Mars bars should suffice.

History / Poland war propaganda poster - can anyone explain this picture? [292]

Erm....you sure?

The history might have been different. With probably no Western Allies engaged in war (Churchill called alliance with Stalin 'A pact with the Devil' or something like that), who knows ? Although it would probably end with making Poland a virtual province of The Reich, I'm afraid. But racial prejudice within Germany was probably the factor that was its doom. Dr Oberlaender, who was a Nazi official for occupied Ukraine, was appalled with German treatment of conquered territories and after being on one occasion heavily rebuked by Hitler (der Fuehrer never minced his words) who refused to lift repressions on Ukraine 'We just lot the war'.

But if that isn't gay then I don't know! :):):)

Damn, I saw this poster in a book about Soviet armor in aggression on Poland in '39 and it became my favourite Soviet poster of all times :)

The quote (from Stalin, obviously) says: 'Our army is the one for liberation of the woking ones'. It doesn't say what kind of 'liberation' Great Stalin had on his Great Mind :)

UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

American Nukes

I'm not an enthusiast of turning Poland into a vassal of a country that wouldn't probably care a pin about us in a case of trouble, but they're not nukes (they're supposed to be anti-nukes).

UK, Ireland / Poles in Scotland - help required on research project. [20]

1. Gender/Age group - 18-24; 25-35; 36-50; over 50
2. What were the main factors that encouraged you to come to the UK/Scotland?
3. How long do you intend to stay in the country?
4. Do you see your stay in Scotland/the UK as permenent or temporary?
5. Do you feel the attraction of the UK is as great as it was when your country first became a member of the EU?

1) The second group :(
2) I was encouraged by prospects of not finding a job in Poland.
3) I dunno.
4) I haven't made my mind yet, but probably it's going to be a temporary stay.
5) No. You still don't intend to switch your traffic to the right side.

History / Poland war propaganda poster - can anyone explain this picture? [292]

For the defeat, and maybe to break the nation's spirit.
I saw once a German poster in French (in former KZ Gross-Rosen/Rogoznica) depicting Polish officer (although the eagle on his czapka was conveniently blurred) being murdered in Katyn by bolshevik monsters . In this case it was rather to attract French (who were in good relations with Poland) to German 'crusade' against USSR.

I always liked the Russian communist propaganda, the style of it (I forget the name of the style??)
Very strong very powerful

Note that here Soviets are put in one line with Western Allies.

Polanica Zdrój ?
I don't think anyone was significantly exceeding speed there (except of you, of course :).
Besides you left these passers-by alive, softie.

History / Poland war propaganda poster - can anyone explain this picture? [292]

Poster #2:
more of the same.

Not true.
The first poster accuses England (sic!) of destruction of Poland (I suspect it's a German or Communist post-war propaganda).
The second one is pre-war propaganda poster telling 'stay away'. A soldier driving a bayonet into a hand with an armband with svastika is self explanatory.

News / should I convert all my dollars into PLN? [7]

I hope that $$$ plunge as low as possible. Now the exchange rate is pathetic $1.6 for a quid. It's because I'm thinking about buying a pimped ride in da US.

Love / POLISH GIRLS AND LOOSE JEANS [36]

It's down to shocking culture difference. Poles like it loose, Canadians (and Anglo-Saxons in general) like it tight ;)

Travel / Polish roads as recorded by myself earlier today [74]

They change it so often im not quite sure, generally out of the towns its 90 kmh, although the speedometer in my car is in mph.

They changed speed limit from 60 to 50 km/h in built-up areas a long time ago.
Outside built-up areas - 90 km/h (unless otherwise stated on traffic signs).
You're a bit OTT in your criticism here.

0:33, 0:41 - speed limit 70 km/h
Naughty boy

Language / DIALECTS IN POLAND? [28]

the Silesian dialect

I'm a Silesian with Polish roots :) I can speak with Silesian dialect (from Opole area) and accent as well. Of course is acceptable, although some people may react in different way - some with curiosity, some with some reserve (in some parts Silesians are considered 'Germans', thus they may be not liked).

Life / Burlesque in Poland? [8]

Burlesque... what does exactly this word mean ? If it's ''kabaret'', then yes, it's massively popular, there are many ''kabareciarze'', who often appear on TV and tour Poland and sometimes go abroad (mainly to the UK :)

UK, Ireland / Extradition to Poland [11]

Stupid?
There is no such thing like "trivial crime". Crime is a crime - at least in Poland. And every crime have to be punished.

Yeah, it is stupid. It's wasting taxpayer's money (cost of flight to Poland may well exceed fines for these 'crimes' which in fact are just offences). Instead it probably would be better if interested countries would sign some bilateral deals on punishing these 'criminals'. They would be of good use e.g. sweeping streets for 200 hours.

UK, Ireland / Extradition to Poland [11]

Yeah, it's stupid. And after the trial, many of them probably are released because of low meaning of their offences.

Life / GENERATION JP2? [6]

I guess the term 'JP II' generation was forged im promptu just after his death, and it even lacks exact definition. I was born some 2 weeks after his election, but by no means I would call myself as someone belonging to "Generation JP II".

News / POLES STILL NEED VISAS TO THE U.S.A!! [84]

Polish politicians have absolutely nothing to say about the future shape of the EU. How honorable is this position?

That's why they should focus on making Poland stronger in terms of economy.

You want the USA to pay for your Missile Difference Shield and you cant shut up about it how the USA should not only give you the Shield but also give you cash on top of that?

What the fcuk are you babbling about ? I don't want any foreign forces on Polish soil. We're members of NATO and the EU. That's enough for me.

for your Missile Difference Shield

It's not ours it's American. Poland will host it, but the buttons will be pushed by Americans.

News / POLES STILL NEED VISAS TO THE U.S.A!! [84]

Nobody's going to beg anybody. We're EU members, which you seem to forget very easily. Our place is in Europe, not being some retarded 51st state (whose citizens still need visas). And NATO is not only America. We haven't signed any missile deals with the UK, France or Germany.
