UK, Ireland / Polish workers found hung in Herefordshire [51]

but it must be of some interest to those who work here in the UK

The fact that two Poles died in the same location on the same day makes it unusual.

Language / Translation Dictionary [10]

Yes, I use this one. Some slang/sayings on there too. Not bad, apart from the gay dating ads!

Language / Polish Acronyms & Initialisms [15]

At the risk of creating the world's shortest thread...
I am getting bored of English/American ones such as LOL. Please share with me (and the world) your favourite Polish acronyms and initialisms.

Language / Polish Onomateopia [26]

Thanks everyone, don't forget to put the English translation for those people too lazy to use a dictionary!

Language / tips for a westerner learning polish? [5]

can anyone point me to some good free lessons?

A good way is to do a skills swap (perhaps after learning some basic vocabulary)... Teach someone your native language whilst they learn yours. You can either get a penpal or converse via Skype etc.

These sites are dedicated language partner finding sites

huitalk.com
italki.com

Of course there is also good old gumtree.

She admits she is not an expert with computers

WR, maybe you could set up the account for her then provide her with the login details...

Language / Confusion about genitive plural [30]

Can someone tell me how "ściana" is different from "mur"? Which is the preferred one?

Food / Kiełbasa - What can I do with it to make it taste nice? [14]

I was recently given some kiełbasa. I'm not a big sausage lover anyway and eaten au naturel it just seems to be just fatty and smokey nothingness.

Any ideas? Or should I just chuck it away?

Love / What is an acceptable dating age range in Poland? [51]

This age difference thing always reminds me of the scene from Friends....

Joey: Oh, well think of it like this, when you're 90...
Ross: I know, when I'm 90 she'll be like 80 and it won't seem like such a big difference.
Joey: No, that's not what I was going to say at all. No, what I was going to say is when you're 90 you'll still have the memory of what it was like to be with a 20-year-old.

Language / Polish language MP3s [24]

I wonder what happened to them?

Yes, it's a shame they're missing. Also the PDF is a scan of a printed document. It would have been nice if you could cut and paste from it...

These stories get increasingly difficult

I didn't realise that... I started from the end and I'm struggling a bit.

Language / Polish language MP3s [24]

I have done, the first few were fairly easy. I probably didn't start at the beginning because those ones didn't have the corresponding mp3s...
