Genealogy / What nationality is Slavic? [23]

He's Jewish Polish but his wife is Slavic

Maybe Slavic in opposition to Jewish, as an ethnic group.
So you should read this: He's Jewish Polish but his wife is (just) Polish ;)

Life / Winters Coming Up...How long can I stay out? [6]

With winter fast approaching [...] I've never lived a Polish winter.

Lucky you! I wish i was there!! I want a real winter, cold and snowy!
I think i've lived 2 Polish winters. Last one was in Zakopane, almost 3 years ago, at Christmas time. It was sooo nice, all that snow and Christmas lights, decorations everywhere.

How long can one stay outside for during those long winter days? Can you still stay active outside? Do people still go for walks????

Nah, Polish people are like bears, they sleep til spring is back ;)
Kidding. You know, it depends. Winters are not as cold as they used to be. It also depends on the region. But having a walk is doable. You will see plenty of people risking their life outside ;)

Life / GERMANS LIVING IN POLAND vs POLES LIVING IN GERMANY [30]

But I hear that in Germany, Poles don't have as many rights.

I'd say that is because Polish people in Germany have only been there for 'years', while Germans in Poland have been there for centuries (many generations). Many of them would describe themselves as German-Polish people, when the Polish people in Germany will only describe themselves as Poles, that's it. I may be wrong, i don't know.

Germans are not represented in polish football team...

Lucky b*stard... ;) I'd rather play for Germany now, than Poland ;) (no World Cup *sigh*).
But you're not totally right, there have been several Polish national team players of German descent in the past, i think most of them were actually Silesian, German and Polish parts.

History / Why are we called Poles instead of Polans? [29]

but I think nobody else is constructed like Poles

It's said that Poland's name come from 'pole' (plain?).
Btw, the Polans were a people living in today Poland before Poland was created.

Travel / Visiting Krakow in December, what do you think? [24]

Hey Marion, remember me? The French guy who can speak French... ;)

A friend of mine spent a week there, in Krakow, in February, and she loved it. She went there with her boyfriend and they had a very nice time (St Valentine).

There was snow everywhere but it participated to the charm of the place.

I've been there a few times too. Both in winter and summer, and i really liked it ;)

Travel / Going to Szczecin - other airports in Poland [18]

Berlin seems fine. It's quite close to Szczecin, on the other side of the border.
Then you could take a bus or train to Szczecin. It's totally doable (i think).

Good luck anyway ;)

Genealogy / Fathers name Szulc [6]

Polonius is the specialist of Polish names here, but i can tell you one thing which i'm quite sure of: Szulc more than probably comes from the German name Schultz (or Schulz), they are pronounced the same.

It means that you should look for your Polish origin in the western part of Poland. I guess.

Travel / I am coming to Kolobrzeg!! [6]

Yup, but the distance is probably the same, i mean with Berlin.
I'd say Berlin -> Kolobrzeg = 200 km
And Gdansk -> Kolobrzeg = 250 km

Travel / I am coming to Kolobrzeg!! [6]

Kolobrzeg, nice! I was there last month (actually i've been there a few times).

If you are flying direct from Cyprus you might want to consider flying to Berlin and getting the train.

Berlin, or if she's lucky, directly to Szczecin, it's even closer.

I didn't know there was an 'minimum amount' we should spend on rings...
I think a nice ring would do. The price doesn't matter. Money is nothing ;)

Travel / Gdansk - need some information about it [21]

I spent a day in Gdansk last month.
The Old Town, at night, is wonderful, really. And i've been told it's even better in winter, at Christmas time, with all the lights and the ambiance.. ;)

I think you'll find all you need on the Internet if you know where to search.
You can also read books, go to a library and give a look at every book about Gdansk you could find.
Good luck ;)
