Life / 800 thousand Polish women are victims of domestic abuse yearly [180]

Not stating the full truth is not lying at all.

A lie by omission, is still a lie apparently.
Otherwise, why does Mrs Hueg always quake with anger when she asks 'what are you doing?' and I reply 'nothing', while hiding the remote under the sofa in a flourish of crumbs?

Person the Lifeboats. :)

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

It stops nasty things living in the water though.

So does boiling, or those tablets obviously, if you're not Ray Mears.

no benefit to teeth.

What's the bet that they just don't fluoridate in his area? He's not bitter, like the water. :)

Try this at home

Never encourage people to try things at home mate, this isn't a collateral damage thread. Unless I've been moved to Random Chat of course, in which case, carry on. :)

News / British food exports to Poland up 53% [43]

No heartless streak

No the moment has passed swans and waterfalls. Where is reverse on this thing? :) But at least we've learnt something from it so all is not in vain and no harm done in any case. Hope you're well Polskers. :)

edit I just noticed that there is something different about your avatar. Too many late nights? :)

Wasn't she OXO

See I was having a moment there Polskers and now you've gone and ruined it. Just one whiff and i'm transported back to plump breasts, tender thighs and Sunday roasts. :) That'll be that Moderator's heartless streak coming out. I can't watch her now she's gone all loose in the itv sense rather than anything Newtonian :)

Language / Share Perfective and Imperfective Polish verbs [105]

an even softer version

do you have one in bubble wrap? :) Interesting stuff J. This kind of thing facinates and infuriates to the same degree. It's why languages are great fun and natives so vital. You can't find this kind of thing in the library. :)

so if I was asking for a hammer, one could be seen as the weaker 'pass me the hammer (when you've got a mo)' and the other as 'Give me the bloody hammer'?

News / Candidate of "Hope and Change," Breaks Promise, Leaves Poland Defenseless [47]

That's like guilty b4 proven innocent

Of course the problem with like is that it always has that not quite like the thing it's meant to be like feel to it. Like.

If I can smell bacon sandwiches and you invite my celebrity chef to check the kitchen for spitting frying pans I think i'll rely on my nose in the name of cost cutting, but as a militant vegetarian i'm still going to be threatening to switch on my glade plugin at the first whiff of porkies. :)

History / German POWs after WW2 - did the allies commit mass murder? [228]

I ain't being disingenuous here.

No but you are however being deliberately inflamatory.
Part of the contract of life involves compassion (section 27, para. 3) for their suffering is no less great just because we disagree with the actions that caused it. Not everyone reads the small print unfortunately.

get around the blind patriotism.

but no matter your intentions a poke in the eye is never going to restore sight.

History / German POWs after WW2 - did the allies commit mass murder? [228]

There were decent Luftwaffe pilots.

Aviation History - Charlie Brown's Story

Charlie Brown was a B-17 Flying Fortress pilot with the 379th Bomber Group at Kimbolton, England. His B-17 was called 'Ye Old Pub' and was in a terrible state, having been hit by flak and fighters. The compass was damaged and they were flying deeper over enemy territory instead of heading home to Kimbolton.
After flying over an enemy airfield, a pilot named Franz Steigler was ordered to take off and shoot down the B-17. When he got near the B-17, he could not believe his eyes. In his words, he 'had never seen a plane in such a bad state'. The tail and rear section was severely damaged, and the tail gunner wounded. The top gunner was all over the top of the fuselage. The nose was smashed and there were holes everywhere.

History / Sarmatia Europe - Could it be political reality? [183]

stolen my p*ss once again.
It's just British slang is all I was saying.

Nah, New Zealand's the only place I've ever sank any p*ss. But either way, don't worry about Os mate, he's got this thing about getting on people's backs. Revenge for the whole Blackpool front thing probably. :)

Travel / New Year's in Krakow [22]

maybe this year will be different

lol

The very definitiion of optimism :)

it really was clean and a most welcoming city

I spy some kind of Europe wide conspiracy. :) Having spent a part of my life living amongst the Vienese, returning to S-O-T was a difficult transition. :)

Thanks for the support Hueg

No problem. Nice to meet someone else from Staffordshire on these forums. :)

Travel / New Year's in Krakow [22]

believe me the New Year is horrendous.

Bentilee's not the place to be during the new year, if you are particularly fond of the idea of seeing in another one of course. :)

I have family in the police force

I don't envy them, but I hope their christmas/New Year isn't too horrendous this year.

Love / Moved to Poland to my younger boyfriend, now got sick; he's got a new one [194]

And it seemed OK then.

It's never ok mate despite appearances. People of all persuasions can fail to speak up for all manner of reasons, it does not however mean that they condone the action. Apathetic probably, like the sheep that watches on as the Wolf slays his mate and chews on a sprig of mint. It doesn't affect them directly they can choose to ignore things but one day it might. Perhaps even you. That would never be acceptable to us as you're a friend. But probably this person too has friends who are unable to speak and express their displeasure. As such, it is up to the compassionate yet disinterested observer.

gtd

She was obviously kidding.

Let's hope so. There was a lol there. Always a good sign that it's not to be taken literally. Maniacal Cackling excepted of course.

no I wasn't kidding.

Ahh. I've changed my mind. That's really not a sensible suggestion.

See you lost yourself a supporter there through being too clever by half...

is a slippery slope.

Yes and not everyone has a baking tray.

it's a dish best served cold

I knew there was a reason Mrs Hueg kept making Gazpacho. I thought she was just trying to reduce her carbon Jimmy Choo print.

Life / Where to watch US election in Krakow? [17]

you are just like him

A smiley aimed at someone in my world means that one is smiling Krak, not being completely serious. Rather as a friend would do as he whacks you gently on the shoulders or taps your arm.

It's a sign of friendship. Rather than a laugh or prod in your direction. Were we to be in a pub and I said "You're not going to last long here" after you'd said something entirely sensible and reasonable, you'd be able to see the smile and know that I was messing, joking rather than unaccountably trying to run someone who makes a lot of sense off of the forums. Well there we have it :)

just because you don't agree, doesnt give you the right to

Calm reasoned sound logic. An Oasis of sanity. You're not going to last too long around here with that sort of outlook. :)

History / Drang nach Osten. [79]

disappointed how Germans treat Easter

I tend to agree, they go slightly overboard with the whole egg thing and hide the chocolate ones even though fasting is over. Still they make up for it with donuts for all in the bank on pancake day.

Thinking about it is that how we got into this jam in the first place?

What was the question again? :)
