Life / Handguns Not Needed in Poland? [44]

Disarmament would be extremely dangerous in US at this juncture given the amount of criminals that have guns now.

I agree. Maybe we should pass a law that prohibits the sale of amunition. Not against the constitution, I'd guess.

Where did you live? East Oakland in the Bay Area? South Central in L.A.? ;)

Love / ARE POLES ROMANTICS?? [36]

they haven't traveled is why

Yep. But you'll find these stupid prejudices amongst Europeans, who travel a whole lot more abroad than Americans, as well. IMHO, it's all a question of how the kids are brought up. If their parents were racist suckers, the children are usually, too.

I don't think Germans pay much attention to feelings

I guarantee you that your perception is wrong. Don't know if it's a personal "taboo" for you as a Jew to date a German girl, but if not I would at least give it a try. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Love / ARE POLES ROMANTICS?? [36]

for these stupid perceptions

Agreed, and it's interesting to see that these negative perceptions are still alive amongst the younger generations.

Love / ARE POLES ROMANTICS?? [36]

I can't assure you that Germans are cold and calculating when it comes to relationships

Good that you "can't" (see quote above...) assure that, because it is simply not true. Germans are just a little bit faster and uncomplicated when it comes to relationships/ sex, that's all. I've been together with a few German girls in my life and none of them has been cold as you imply. I guess you haven't had a German girl yet... :)

UK, Ireland / Poles working and living in the UK [25]

who cares about colonisation? Just blacks do....

Man, that's sick. That's almost like saying "Who cares about the Holocaust? Just Jews do...". Colonisation cost countless lifes.

USA, Canada / Renewing Polish Passport in US [30]

There is a rectangular icon vaguely resembling camera on the front cover

Good - then you have a biometric passport.

But now I wonder where this biometric info resides

AFAIK, it resides in a thin chip embedded in the cover of the passport. Usually, your personal data, a copy of your photo and your finger prints are saved in the EEPROM.

USA, Canada / Renewing Polish Passport in US [30]

I just checked my passport to see if they were displayed anywhere on

Take a look at your passport: is there a little icon on the cover page which resembles a camera? If so, that's a biometric passport. If not, I would ask your embassy just to make sure. Otherwise you might be send back at the border.

USA, Canada / Renewing Polish Passport in US [30]

f stop

No fingerprints taken electronically? I'm astonished, as passports with biometric chips are soon compulsory if you want to enter the USA, AFAIK.

News / Poland will take half a century to catch up with the West [240]

However. The Western European economies are in freefall

And then came the crisis and Poland was the only country that kept developing

Poland is not an island. If the western economies go down, Poland will join them. The recent anticyclical growth of the country's economy will not continue forever. Guaranteed.

Life / Consider going back to Poland? [90]

bolek

Nice post, Bolek, although I cannot confirm this part for me personally:

and not being there will haunt you till you die

I think of home occasionally, but it's not that I long to be there all the time.

Is this an imaginary child? I thought you're like 14 years old

He's starting to have wet dreams, I guess. ;)

Life / What should I name my female child? [44]

What does the mother of the child want to name her?

Don't take this creep serious. He's just a confused kid and he definitely has no daughter. If in doubt, please see.

Life / What Do Poles think of Finns? [50]

The whole idea that allowing people to own guns will bring crime up is only a myth made up by idiotic liberals

Sure...
Why did 4 cops have to die in Washington state just recently? What about Columbine? Do I have to list all those killings that happened only because weapons are so readily available to every nutjob who wants one? That guns bring crime down is only a myth made up by idiotic conservatives.

News / Does Poland count in Europe or is it ignored? [427]

but I was most impressed by the report that Germany had a 0% budget deficit

Not anymore due to the recent crisis, but in the past the German government usually acted fiscally responsible. Keeping the deficit and inflation low, thus adhering to the EU rules.

visit a shop to see how Germans spend their money and then visit a mall in the US

There is a big difference between a German and an American consumer: Americans are much more willing to pile up (credit card) debt than the financially conservative Germans. Don't know why, but it might have to do with the "keeping up with the Jones' " syndrome.

...but we need to keep France closer in case some pre-emptive strike is needed in the future

You'd better watch out that the French and Germans won't cooperate next time... ;)
