News / What Poland thinks about China [27]

well,my friend,From your words I can infer and I believe my inference is right----your knowledge about China is merely gained from your media or some of your anti-china politicians.

Well, I do see a difference between some Chinese who are open minded and are real individuals with independent opinions about internal and international issues.

What doesn't change the fact that CCP has never gained a legal, mandate from free, open elections, and represents, in fact, nationalistic Han ideology. I know what I'm talking about. And, please do not make prejudged and wrong assumptions.

News / What Poland thinks about China [27]

I think lots of people from Poland, especially from smaller cities and from the countryside, are pretty ignorant about Asians, they don't see any difference between, for instance, Chinese and Japanese culture.

Err... what? Arrogance and ignorance isn't limited to inhabitants of small cities and rural areas.

On a global/political level they feel reluctant to China for some events such as those that are happening in Tibet. And because there's still a lot of hatred in here towards the communism, we are pretty biased about Chinese goverment, especially when we hear about jailing of some political opponents, or internet restrictions every now and then. Not mentioning the past..

CCP and Chinese government performance on minorities issue deserves in worldwide condemn. Tibet is only the most known example.

As somebody mentioned above, China is a well known source of cheap copies of western products, also fake ones. Sometimes this sentence " made in China " is used as an insult, when you call your friends goods like that, which you think are of poor quality. There's also slight fear after recent cases of poisoned milk or kitchen tools imported to Poland.

Quoted for the truth

Beside that, Chinese culture connected tightly to Chinese rich history is really admired, if somebody makes the attemp to read something about it, or visit China. In newspapers China is usually praised for its economic strategies that make it an Asian Tiger in these times of economic crisis.

Chinese culture is one of world's perils. The sad fact is that only part of it is protected.

It's kind of sad that only Japan found better ways to propagate it's culture through channels such as manga or anime in Poland, China doesn't seem to have these kind of tools at it's disposal.

Japan hasn't lost its identity under US occupation and rapid industrial development and modernization after WW2. The problem with China and Chinese is they want be like everybody else.

News / What Poland thinks about China [27]

I really do not know what Poland thinks about China and Chinese...

My personal view about Current China and Chinese is quite ambiguous...

I really like and admire:

Chinese culture, esp those pr revolutionary period. I like Chinese food, people, landscapes and some really nice places.

I hate:

1. Internal policy conducted by CCP toward minorities and its own people
2. Forcible industrialization which enslaves, in fact, millions of low paid workers, working in horrible conditions comparable to 19th century Europe.
3. Chinese, narrow minded Han nationalism and their hate toward their neighbors...
4. Chinese products, cheap copies of western goods, what makes that China is loosing its unique identity..

Life / Would I be accepted as a Pole (being half-Greek, half-Polish)? [16]

Truth is, would I be accepted as a Pole or recognized as one, or would I be some foreigner fellow to them?

You can name yourself as a Pole and with no doubt be accepted as one of us.... There are plenty of descendants of 1949 Greek refuges living in Poznań and it neighborhood.

Eleni Tzoka, a famous Polish singer is one of them.

Life / Why do a lot of Polish people stare and why is good personal hygeine shunned? [108]

If I drive through poznan people always pull up along side and stare at me and then try to make me race them off the lights? Is this normal?

Nah Poznań... Well drivers from Poanań are the most aggressive ones I ever known. Theit usual style of driving is offensive and dangerous. They are also impolite and usually do not help each other in troublesome traffic situations...

Indeed they treat their cars as externalization of their selfish ego. An every stretch between traffic lights is used as speed contest, a matter of death or live where you're to obliged to prove you have bigger balls than other drivers...

I know something because I used to drive in Poznań (where I studied, and lived for few years) professionally as sale representative. I also had occasion to compare of style of driving in other cities, where most drivers are more relaxed an helpful...

The bad opinion about Poznań drivers is shared in other parts of Poland as well... The good thing is, if you survived in urban traffic in Poznań you'd be able to drive in every Polish city...

Does Poland count in Europe or is it ignored?

What?

The catch is it what are your expectations...

The problem is some Poles has enhanced inferiority complex what made his perception unbalanced... and there are some politicians who use it to say untrue stories about how meaning of Poland is purposely decreased...

Language / Jest/To jest - to jest is often abbreviated to just to [24]

"Kolokwium to dużo pracy" is not proper according to general rules of Polish language but is a kind of "living" language, common usage, just to make communication much simply. And I guess, is accepted by Polish linguists anyway,

Formally, proper sentence should be expressed in Polish in following way:

"Przygotowanie się do kolokwium wymaga dużo pracy"

USA, Canada / WIKIPEDIA'S POLISH-AMERICAN ENTRY [10]

It's difficult for me to measure accuracy of Wikipedia info about Polish Americans but I've heard lately or read somewhere that first Poles who come to North America arrived with Captain John Smith and settled down in Plymouth Colony. What interesting they were glass foremen, so probably the first glass works in North America were founded and run by Poles.

Pity, I have no more details about it...

Love / THE TYPICAL POLISH WOMAN? [148]

Must be Catholic, why is that? My fiancee isn't Catholic and she is typically Polish.

So you're lucky :). Most Poles have been baptized in Catholic Church. Only narrow margin are Orthodox, Lutherans and other faiths and non believers.

The fact, that some number baptized Catholics leave the Church, because of many reasons...

So there is no common denominator to describe typical Polish woman, not at all.... :)

Love / THE TYPICAL POLISH WOMAN? [148]

Typical Polish woman?

Must be catholic, but with easy attitude toward religion.

The rest is a matter of individual experiences and expectations... Living in Poland I can say that there's something like typical Polish female... It concerns also a physical appearance, character, kind of personality, sexual behavior, and individual attitude toward universal values...

I guess that typical Polish woman is too abstract phenomena that everyone can understand differently...

History / Poland remembers its bloodless revolution of 1989 [9]

To what degree? And what are the reasons? (Its very similar in the UK)

Even homeless people have now mobile phones and families living on social aid have washers, color TV sets, computers and many other civilization goods ...

A better Poland? Most would say yes but not everyone

the cost of change.

Global prosperity counts, even actual poverty is on much higher level, than 20 years ago.

Love / In your opinion, are most Polish women 'Easy'? [243]

Find out something that she can't resist (personal, emotional, sexual, whatever). If she thinks that something is missing in you relationship I'm sure you can give it to her. You just need to know what it is.

I was ironic or rather I was trying to be. :(

But there is a simple rule what is quite universal. We people, generally became more easy when we really obtain something what's important to us.

There's love, passion but sometimes anger and pain. This is real life, this work more or less that way: only those who really love you are able to forgive you.

Fortunately she is aware of her deficits like me of mine. You know, in relationship there's something much more important than focusing on "bad moments" what happens everyone.

You took my previous post too seriously. Really! :)

My wife is "easy" when she wants something. She was "easy" when we started to be together. In return it changed in hard life...(*)

Life / Polish people more caring? [20]

I admire the spirit and closenest among other Poles. They will always be caring to one another...

If this concerns family members, relatives, close friends you're right. In some extent behavior of members minorities also makes such kindness and specific relations. Till the end of 1980's there was stronger mutual cooperation and support.

But emerging of consumptionism and income, standard of living differentiations, changed this in 1990's.

unfortunatelly

Life / Polish people more caring? [20]

It depends in what part of Poland. I live in Greater Poland where we say hello with gentle smile to our neighbors but most of them are solving mutual problems officially. Thus our relations are rather correct but official, cold.

Poles from Eastern Poland are contrary, less formal, more nice and direct.

O yeah... this forum is plenty of stereotypes, simplifications, generalisations fed by arrogance and ignorance.

I love things when people say that some is just because...

Who Scots are?

Scots are former citizens of Poznań who were banish from Greater Poland because of their extravagance.
