Language / Learning polish and i am not very good. [22]

Edit: pgtx was first. :)

Świetny

świetnie (should be adverb, not adjective)

Jak się imię?

Jak masz na imię?

Man

Mam

Do widzenia.

Very formal for a friend. Do zobaczenia (see you later) is less formal.

And I think you mixed:
Mam = I have
Masz = you have (singular)

Good Luck! Polish is difficult for us who try to learn it, but fun.

Love / Please I need advice. Are Polish Girls and Poland Westernizing for the worse? [16]

Yes, Poland is westernizing. And the culture of young people is usually pretty westernized.

But I am sure you can find a more traditional girl in Poland, there are 38 million people living in Poland. And many of them still have traditional values (esp. in smaller cities and countryside). I am also sure you can find it in Czech Republic.

I don't know your age. But older girls (read woman) are generally more traditional.

News / Is Poland ready for the swine fever stuff? [59]

The media in PL is/were over reporting it and PL doesn't even have one case.

It seems like it's a part of Polish culture to be very worried about diseases. Buy all non-prescription drugs you can find when you have a normal cold (or even go to the doctor etc.). In Sweden you would never been allowed to see a doctor for a normal cold. The taxes people pay can be used in much better ways.

News / Is Poland ready for the swine fever stuff? [59]

The swine flu doesn't seem to be more dangerous than normal flu.

Many people die every day from normal flu during the flu season. Why is no one talking about them? But panic about this? It's so ridiculous. Media wants to sell more of course.

And that people compare this with SARS show that they don't know anything about infectious diseases.

If I'd get SARS I would be worried. If I'll get the swine flu I will take paracetamol, go to bed and enjoy a good book.

/Medical student who is really tired of media

Food / Poland and the Juice [35]

As long as it's not made from concentrate I am happy, and no extra sugar added.

Our juice is better than everyone else's.

Our? Who are we? Poles, girls...?

Language / The best way for me to learn Polish [89]

Anyway, as regards Polish, try looking into those sources I mentioned and let us know how you've made out thus far, allrighty?

Oczywiście, będę się starać.

Language / The best way for me to learn Polish [89]

I don't think that's representative for the Swedish population. But all kinds of people exist in all countries. You are very welcome to come to Sweden and speak Swedish, I think most people would appreciate it.

Skål!

Of course all people don't know English well. But I don't think people will have big problems when visiting Sweden.

ec.europa.eu/education/languages/pdf/doc627_en.pdf

"The common observation that Swedes are good linguists has been confirmed by a new Eurobarometer study: "Europeans and Language."
The study reported that 81 percent of Swedes speak English, which is a higher percentage of any nation that does not have English as its national language. Dutch were ranked second-best in English, with 80 percent speaking the language, while Danes were third, with 78 percent. The average for the EU was 41 percent who speak English."

Language / The best way for me to learn Polish [89]

I didn't say it was strange, but surprising.

I talked to a woman here in PL a couple of weeks ago that spoke Swedish, she had been working in Sweden. It was not very strange, but still surprising.

they would usually INSIST on speaking English

Probably because they want to make it more comfortable for you, if you speak English better than Swedish.

Love / SOS!! I feel a little hopeless with my Polish husband... [58]

I wrote this to you about 2 weeks ago:

If this has been going on for 1.5 year, you should tell him to get help and if he doesn't do that within a few weeks you should leave him. It's only a matter of time before he'll get violent.

And now he got violent. So now it's only a matter of time before he will do anything even worse to you. LEAVE if you don't want to be terrorized (psychically and physically) forever.

Love / Depression and Polish Men [30]

but yes in other countries (not eastern europe) men dont care as much.

That's a huge generalization. Of course many men from other places than Eastern Europe also get depressed when things like these happen. Some people try to hide it more than others.

Life / Wanna buy a rubber/condom (in Rossmann in Poznan)? [51]

I would rather my kid had a condom than an unwanted baby...or aids.

Ewa Sowinska is more dangerous to young Polish people than both condoms and Teletubies together. Unwanted pregnancy and diseases down there are what really do harm.

Love / I'm pregnant by my Polish boyfriend but he wants me to abort it! [132]

Yup and you saying that doesn't have anything to do with this thread and the person who created it, bollocks..

Did I say that it has nothing to do with this thread? Of course it has something to do with the thread. It was my opinion about the subjects expected/unexpected pregnancy, responsibility and normal logical thinking (which is a big part of this thread).

My post had a lot to do with the first post in this thread. But it was not about her, it was about the subject she wrote about. And it was addressed to all woman (and men).

I assume that you understand the difference. :)

Best regards,
SwP

Love / I'm pregnant by my Polish boyfriend but he wants me to abort it! [132]

Can someone please tell me why some people are not reading though the whole thread before posting?
She clearly stated that she did used the contraception.. obvious troll is obvious?

Can you please read my post more carefully. It was a general statement referring to all women and men.

Or get yourself spayed or neutered. An operation like an abortion, but this way you won't be creating a new life and since you don't want a kid anyway, get yourself spayed.

Reversible anti-contraception is usually a better choice. Most persons want to have children sooner or later.

Love / I'm pregnant by my Polish boyfriend but he wants me to abort it! [132]

Can someone please tell me, why is it difficult to understand that if you have sex without anti-contraception you will, for sure, get pregnant sooner or later?

If you don't want a child use anti-contraception, you don't even have to be intelligent to understand that. If you don't use it you should get prepared for getting pregnant. It's the laws of nature.

UK, Ireland / What is in Poland that England doesn't have? [142]

I would be grateful if you could explain. Do you mean when many of your academics were persecuted under the Russian's. I would just like to know a little more from a Polish view, rather than from international history that one reads. Thanks.

Katyn Massacre

"The number of victims is estimated at about 22,000, the most commonly cited number is 21,768."

"About 8,000 were officers taken prisoner during the 1939 Soviet invasion of Poland, the rest being Poles arrested for allegedly being intelligence agents, gendarmes, saboteurs, landowners, factory owners, lawyers, priests, and officials."

Love / Where are the Polish girls in terms on looks, compared to other countries? Top 100. [22]

Which ones are more fun in bed and more opened and fall in love quicker?

It's pretty equal. That's my experience after living 23 years in Sweden near the Norwegian border. Danish girls are probably one step ahead in this case, but they can also be a little more b i t c h y (to avoid censure).

But this is only generalizations of course, it's important to understand that.

Love / Where are the Polish girls in terms on looks, compared to other countries? Top 100. [22]

some Swedish girls look completly different from the typical Swedish girl, face, head shape eye and hair color, are they Lapp girls????

No, usually not. Dark blond hair (pretty dark but not brown) is common in Sweden. Green and brown eyes are not uncommon. It's not true as people think that 90% of Swedes have light blond hair and blue eyes (even if many have it). Most Swedes have "long" faces, but for sure there are also people with more "round" faces, and it's not because they are of any special genetic origin (it's just normal genetic variation).

There are a lot of beautiful girls in Sweden that don't have light blond hair.

What I said above is about people in Sweden with Swedish origin. But due to immigration many people you see on the streets are not of Swedish origin.

Language / Pan/Pani...usage changes for case distiction? [23]

Merged: Proszę Pani / Proszę Panią

Can someone please tell me the difference between Proszę Pani / Proszę Panią (obviously it's different grammatical cases, but I'm thinking of the meaning and when to use what). Thanks in advance! :)

News / Should Poles become a minority in Poland? [150]

In my opinion the immigration question is easy to answer.

If someone wants to live in another country he/she should absolutely be able to do this, as long as he/she behaves good and adapts to the new way of living (in the new country).
