I always hear my family say things like this. Here in canada the average age of marriage is somewhere around 30-32 (i read it in the paper some time ago). In poland a women at that age is considered "unwanted" - i often hear "nikt ją nie weźmie", "nobody will take her/want her". I always get asked, "so when are you getting married", "when will you start having kids" etc. Drives me nuts!

Oh well, i guess its just cultural differences at work.

I didn't find it addictive, but I only took it to help me stay focused when studying for exams - 1 week max. per semester. Any longer than that and I would start feeling "weird" (hard to explain the feeling). It's amazing how much work i would get done when on concerta, kinda makes me wonder what 'd be like if i took the pill everday...

Really??? I cross the Niagara falls border quite often and have never been hassled by a guard. As a matter of fact, ever since the new passport law was introduced the guards usually notice the "place of birth" on my passport and always joke about me smuggling pierogi/golabki across the border.

And ambassador bridge @ windsor/detroit is a joke - they rarely check ID.

I never spend more than 30 sec at the border crossing (well unless there's a line up). From what i can tell only visible minorities have a hard time crossing into the US.

The proudest people i've ever met were chinese. The seem to hang on to their culture more than the poles do, often times to the point of even refusing to learn english. Most seem to live in predominantly chinese neighbourhoods, eat chinese food and socialise with their own - and very patriotic as well. Poles on the other hand, tend to assimilate and lose their cultre rather quickly.

It's very common and considered polite/friendly to ask someone "how are you?", EVEN if you don't care. It's not only asking how that person is, but it's also saying "hi" (b/c most often people say "hi, how are you?"). This is also a nice way to start some "small talk." I'm not surprised this lady thinks you're rude, in this regard.

Like it or not, you will have to get used it if you plan on integrating into British society (or american, canadian, ...).

Seems as though some people did not like my previous post. Yes, it was blunt and to the point, but it is true. The truth hurts? Let me explain myself in more detail.

You see, in the past (thousands of years ago) women were attracted to physically fit men - you know, v-shaped back, legs of steel, broad shoulders, pecs, "guns", abs, etc. Why? Because a strong man was capable of raising the family - ie: build a house, farm the land, protection, work for food/supplies etc. (and yes, women played a major role in the family as well). Remember life was very difficult and physically demanding so being strong was crucial to survival. Over the course of human evolution women have "evolved" into chosing their mates accordingly.

NOW, in the 21st century physical strength is not so important. Why? Because we live in a technological world where many tasks, which once required considerable physical labour, can now be accomplished by the press of a button .... OR even easier ... with $$$$$$.

This is the rationale behind my "dollar sign" post. There is nothing wrong with women being attracted to wealthy men (or financially stable). It's just a product of the improvement of our standard of living and evolution. Makes you wonder what this will develop into in the future...

I realise there are other reasons for women chosing a specific partner (love, personality, chemistry etc), but this is a major point i had to explain (re: my unpopular post).

What are men attracted to in a women, you now ask? Well there are evolutionary reasons for this as well but I'm out of time today.


What? I've been living in canada since the age of 2. I've never worked as a dishwasher (even on a part-time basis during school).
