Life / Polish men in shorts with sandals and socks.. [63]

you guys are such misers, it's just too expensive for you to buy new socks from time to time when they'll get too dirty.. and you should get some knowledge about the fashion industry, socks to sandals are really stylish..

Life / Would you intervene in a mugging on a street in Poland? [16]

that is foolish, what if they had knives?

maybe he was drunk? I did the same thing once, I was slightly drunk and two guys approeached me with intention of taking my phone, I started fighting with them and after a while ran away. I should have ran away immediately, luckily they were pretty drunk too that's why I escaped with just few scratches.. If they had any kind of weapon I would be in deep ****.. rules are simple if you can flee, if you are with your girlfriend call cops and don't intervene, times when thugs were not attacking if you had a female companion with you are long gone, you can actually do something if you are sure they don't have any kind of weapon, and they ain't in big number in other case it's just gambling

Travel / Where is the best seaside resort in Poland? [12]

Yeah, didn't think of that, last time I was visting Hel I was acommodated in Wladyslawowo so it was obvious for me - and pretty comfy too, to use my car. Of course if you are somewhere in the tri city and you just want to have a one day trip to Hell just use the ferry. On the other hand if you want to visit other towns situated on the Hel peninsula, for example Hałupy - known cause of presidents villa located there, and probably the most expensive seaside resort around you can always take the train.

News / Nobility / Aristocracy in Poland ? [92]

My family from my grand mothers side was related to duchess Potocka, but I don't know the details, I just know that I don't have any direct blood relations..

beside that, I dunno if you know but this board is used mainly by people who are not polish, so stating "polish people" might be a mistake : o

Travel / Where is the best seaside resort in Poland? [12]

Most of Polish seaside towns are overcrowded especially through the summer period, Hel, £eba, Ustka, Władysławowo are best examples, in fact all little tourist towns around Zatoka Gdańska are full of tourists in that time. Sopot is a city not a town, so it depends what are you aiming for. Generally it's pretty close to every tourist town from tri city - on the other hand there are huge traffic jams when you're driving from fi Sopot to Hel...

Wroclaw Boy you mentioned "rain" like it was a trait of £eba town.. ; o just bad luck..

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

well, the day after, with a huge hangover I wouldn't probably object and just guzzle down on the tap.. but yeah, it's better to leave this option for the most extreme cases of thirst ; ) As for the food, after watching a program about clerk ladies washing off the mould from meat with a dish washing liquid, afterhours in one of the polish stores I just don't trust anyone..

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

Seanus, you shouldn't be drinking tap water especially in Silesia, years of heavy industry growth ( and then collapse ), coal mines, foundries, coal power plants have polluted air and water. And although it's much better now, all the people I know are drinking tap water only after boiling it first, and most of them have some kind of remote filtering kettels. Sometimes when I'm having a trip to Beskidy mountains I can tell a huge difference in flavour of the tap water here and there. I also remember teachers in ground school telling us that we shouldn't be drinking tap water because it's unhealthy :o

Maybe in some other parts of Poland, but here in Silesia, I really don't recommend drinking it..

Life / So it's hit me too, isolation in Poland [46]

Buying a music instrument and learning to play by yourself, it's also a good idea for drifting away from bad thoughts... I recommend a classic guitar : )

Love / Questions about Polish women [17]

Every single Polsih person

bollocks, I know some polish people who are living in UK just for the sake of it and their very own life, that's a huge generalization. That probably depends on the social background one comes from, I'd say more dependent people or people from poor families will more likely send something but that is NOT a golden rule..

Education is extremelly important

That again hugely depends on where you come from, there are lots of people from lower classes who don't think like that. There's a mind boggling pressure on education in politics or media hence it may give you the idea that a degree is really important for the polish youth but as I said that's not entirely true.

And education is not limited to anyone if he really wants to study, it might be limited for those who want to graduate from a really well known university..

Travel / Planning a hen night in Warsaw. [10]

There are companies that organise parties with male/female strippers, you just have to provide the proper place. I think there a lots of such companies fi

heartbreakers.pl/index.php

you just need to google "męski striptiz" which is "male striptease" in Polish or smth like that ; )
have fun.

Life / Thunderstorms in Poland [44]

I'd say thunderstorms are an interesting event of nature, and they may attract tourists rather then scare them off.. I love driving in the rain during a thuderstorm, listening to Riders on the storm.. and the air after a storm it is so fresh especially in the polluted Silesia ; )

Life / Culture Shock Since Moving to Poland - Anybody Dealt With This Before? [52]

I agree with the previous poster, Wroclaw, 3-city and Krakow are much more "foreign friendly", more cosmopolitan and multi-cultural so to say. It's really weird for your mates to speak Polish near you, I'd never do such things, ALTHOUGH I remember once having such situation and I had many "non - english speaking" friends with me, I had to use polish to communicate with them, and I clearly stated that to my Swedish mate - he was ok with it, and I was trying to pay as much attention as I could to him. Any person would feel alienated beeing in an alien environment, not knowing the language...
