Life / Poles in Poland: How did you learn your English? [60]

chinczyk, just living in an English speaking country is not good enough. I have known Italians and Poles who have lived in the US and Canada for 30 years.

my ex's (of italian heritge) grandad has been in australia since the end of ww2, his english was okay but at times incomprehensible.

it really depends on the individual, my dad was born o/s and came to australia when he was 6 or 7 and apart from a few mudder (mother) and ledder (leather) he could pass as an aussie no doubt.

i think its anas of history instead of anals of history,if not,it may be obscure aussie slang ;)

my bad, forgot a "n", should have been annal.

you can't count on that people all over the world call him chrismatic leader Chairman mao,eh?:))

he is pictured as a rather nasty man in the west.

Food / Does Polish pierogi also have its story of origin? [43]

Different standpoints will reach different evaluations, since being chinese,we are hard to take a full judgement for chairman Mao's contribution and fault.but whatever he have done,it doesn't influence his greatness in China history.

There must be some part of people in west insult leaders of socialist states with certain purposes,China also has people revolt against capitalist countries, but existence has its reason. i think most of people in the world will view history objectively,so the whole human being gets it developments.

mao made great pierogi...if only he made more during "the great leap forward":

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mao_Zedong#Great_Leap_Forward

i have no reason to have anything against him but from all that i have read he was a great leader but not a great man.

Polonia / Poles experience of india [30]

Im also paranoid with the Indians who find Polish girls as a gateway to Europe.

so, all the laughs and jibes about indian men is true and not generalisations?

you should chat with researchas.

my girlfriend worked in a migration office in australia and she says a lot of indians qualifications and work experience on their applications when researched was found to be made up.

History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

I particularly dislike his angelcising of Warsaw street names and referring to people only by either pseudonyms or positions Premier Mikolajczyk becomes "Premier Mick" while General Bor-Komorowski becomes "General Boor".

it isnt right but he did mention in his books that he did shorten the names or anglicise them to make the books easier to read and to follow the array of characters.

Polonia / Poles experience of india [30]

But I doubt it coz its very strict in india with fake papers , straight 5 years prison sentence on complaint. So how can somebody do it? knowing it. With fake qualifications you cannot work it out anywhere. I am somebody who has taken a long path as there are no short cuts to success.

these are maybe indian students/workers on working visas that apply for permanent residency in australia. so, it is in australia they get found out and their application rejected.

from what she was saying they embellished their applications.

History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

not really, my last name has 12 letters, and the only ones to pronounce it correctly are either poles or slavs. so, i can see why he did....i would have more issue with my uncle shortening his name than some author of a book.

What's wrong with "Bor-Komorowski"? Even I have no problems with that.
Calling him "Boor" IS curious to say at least...(and it is not even an anglicism and I think the General wouldn't like to be called that way in a work of history)

there is nothing wrong with it...but you're of european extraction.

having grown up as a first gen in australia believe me, borkomorowski would pose many pronounciation issues.

Love / Real relationship with a polish girl [26]

do you guys ever think that these girls are just getting kicks from being idiots on the internet?

i mean seriously, i would never consider a girl a "girlfriend" without having tangible human interaction. you guys need to get away from the keyboard and get some fresh air and most importantly...perspective.

Love / Real relationship with a polish girl [26]

online dating i can understand, but most actually meet up in "real life" and decide if they like each other.

these stories themselves sound made up but unfortunately i think it is the truth.

News / New York Post : "Polish" Death Camps and more [278]

not one single Pole was ever a communist

i can see what you are saying harry, but for instance, if whichever country you see as your homeland had a dictator and that dictator started randomly killing all and sundry, would you distance yourself from that leadership?

the polish communist government (unelected i think) was a puppet of the russian communist government. therefore a lot of poles want to distance themselves from this leadership that the majority did not agree with.

Life / Poor people / street children in Poland? [34]

However I have never seen it to such an extent as here. Walking along the planty I avoid smoking now because I know if I have a cigarette I will be approached by someone (i would say a bum, but just as often it's not) asking me. And I have very often been shouted at by said person for saying no as if I am in the wrong for not giving them a cigarette. And I have not seen that anywhere else.

happened to me when in the czech republic...and i was smoking rolly tobacco back then and the chick wanted me to roll it for her as well. i thought i was being set up for something.
