Love / Do not marry Polish woman [212]

well, i know i'm normal ... but do you?

Define normal? According to Aztek culture, I'm not normal. (I should eat people and drink blood.) According to Christian culture, I'm not normal. (I should be a 80 year old virgin one day!)

Hmm.. I don't know? Sometimes, being normal seems a little too crazy for me?

Life / Military service in Poland [17]

I think it's a good thing. People who might decide to risk their life should do so out of their own free will.

However, I do think people should tell those young guys and girls a bit more about the harsh reality of war-torn countries though. See, you have these commercials on T.V. about how the army helps those people in troubled countries, and about how you can actively work for peace..

Well, fighting for peace is like you-know-what for virginity, I'm afraid it doesn't really work like that..

Travel / Amsterdam to Krakow and back [8]

Take a later flight (around 6pm) from AMS to KRK with stopover at Vienna.

Buy a one-way ticket from AMS to KRK and take the train back from KRK to AMS after the conference.

I don't know how important this conference is, but it's always a good thing to have a plan B when you're having serious doubts. (Hey, it's better to be safe than sorry?)

Does anyone know how long is the journey from KRK to AMS and how much does it cost?

The journey will take about 40 minutes, and around the dates you've provided for us, you should expect the price of a ticket to be around 108 €, and a one-way ticket around 49 €. (If you take off from AMS.)

:)

Powodzenia!

Travel / Amsterdam to Krakow and back [8]

40 minutes? That's very fast!!!!

I meant a direct flight ofcourse. In most cases, you'll have a stop in either Warszawa or Katowice. (Katowice is closer though!)

What I mean to ask is how long the train journey from Krakow to Amsterdam will take.

Long? I can't give you the exact time schedule when you're travelling through three different countries by train. I would book a flight if I were you though. (It's probably going to be cheaper aswell!)

Currently, there are 3 airlines going from Amsterdam to Krakow: Austrian (via Vienna), Czech (via Prague) and LOT (via Warsaw). Anyone have any recommendations on which one to take? Or are they more or less the same?

You can also book a flight from Rotterdam Airport (Or from Eindhoven.) to Katowice. You'll probably reach Kraków much faster that way. Just a suggestion ofcourse!

Life / Why are Polish people so ruthless? [87]

Some are and some aren't, Arien. You can't get away from that fact.

How about, a few who are and most really aren't in this case? Anyway, I'm sure you get the idea..

;)

As it happens I am not really supposed to change their work hours regularly anyway, I was just doing it because they needed that help and I was able to. I can still do it but now, as of this week, I choose not to. Of course though, any new Pole joining will still be treated with kindness until they decide to turn on me too.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, in some situations, you could point the finger at yourself, instead of punishing others for your own misfortune?

I fell in love with a Polish colleague so deeply that I took it upon myself to learn the language, albeit I am not fluent but can have conversations. However I never did anything wrong, we remained very close friends.

Well, it turns out that she has a boyfriend, or a husband already. (Which is it?) Too bad for you.

Then one day she just decided I was nothing when her boyfriend gave her hassle because she is not allowed to have male friends.

That's what you tell yourself. Ofcourse the guy doesn't like you. She's his girlfriend, and you've said it yourself, you've allowed yourself to fall in love with her. (And maybe she even encouraged you in some way, I guess we'll never know!) The bottom line? There are more than enough ladies out there who don't have a boyfriend, or a husband. (Should I draw you a map?)

;)

Regardless, you shouldn't take it out on others, and not even on her, simply because you're disappointed. Hey, don't expect everyone to like you, and don't expect everyone to please you either! There's no point in debating this really, and no actual harm has been done? (Okay, maybe she has bruised your ego a little, but you should be able to shrug it off!) You'll be fine.

UK, Ireland / Why are we paying child benefit in Poland? [63]

And next time - vote. Choose better.

I think it's safe to say almost everyone knows that the major changes and decisions - which affect all of us - are being made in the EU parliament. So I'm wondering why certain people don't seem to unite under a common banner, and form a party in the EU parliament themselves, instead of being seperate political entities, which are probably doomed to stay small and pretty much insignificant on a local level?

I don't even know why I'm posting this, I must be out of my mind or something.

Feedback / LIKE / DISLIKE button - A suggestion to Admin and Moderators [29]

Nobody really donates so let him make some cash

People donated atleast 625 $.

Want to know how to make some cash? Create an ebook. Make it a Polish language course with audio files. Ask one or two Polish speaking people here to speak a few sentences in Polish, and let them record these as an audio file, and offer everyone who's in about 5% of the profits. Get a copyright and maybe include a few graphics? (Photo thread?)

You only have to create an ebook once, and you can sell it everywhere, anytime, at any price. (No production costs, no distribution costs, and no shipping costs.) 100% profitable.

;)

No, Ariën isn't always stupid.

Oh, and to expand a little on my previous posting.. Just a simple question, how many times did you get a poster here who was asking people where to learn Polish? (So if you can offer a cheap, and pretty solid language course in an ebook, then maybe such people won't have to look anywhere else?) I understand you've got quite a few language teachers here on this site..

Life / What should I name my female child? [44]

I was thinking "Flow."

Think again?

Any suggestions of Polish names?

20000-names.com/female_polish_names.htm

It is a girl.

Let's just hope she inherited all of her mother's genes then.

Love / Are Polish women too controlling? [106]

We, the Polish women know/ and feel when to get things in our hands (that's why it seems we are controlling)

So you're like the Borg? Awesome!

Life / What should I name my female child? [44]

What does the mother of the child want to name her? She gave birth to her and was with her all this time, the decission of naming her should go to her.

Honey, don't you think that if a guy and a girl truly love eachother, and really have a sense of respect for eachother, that the two of them should be happy to explore all possible options together, and agree to a name they both think is beautiful?

:)

I also don't like when people name their children after their dead relatives. Why? This is a fresh, new person not gramma or aunt or someone else in the family that died.

Me neither, I think it's creepy. (See? We agree sometimes!)

Are expensive gifts offensive to polish guys?

No, not at all. But if I were you, I wouldn't give him something that he could never afford to give you. (Some guys can be insecure like that!)

Love / Are expensive gifts offensive to polish guys? [30]

I guess it would be awkward for anybody to receive an expensive gift from someone not related to them?

I guess it all depends on the financial backgrounds of the persons we're talking about? I mean, my idea of expensive might be totally different from your idea of expensive..

especiall if they couldn't afford to buy her something precious in return.

I agree, this is perhaps the most important part, it may make a guy feel like he's a loser. (It's not because he gets an expensive gift from a woman, but because he can't afford something *that* expensive.) But if he's a wealthy guy, and you're certain he'd be able to return the favour if he wanted to, I don't see why you shouldn't?

Love / Are expensive gifts offensive to polish guys? [30]

Okay, well, I'd consider it pretty normal. (I gave a homeless dude 50 € a few months ago because I didn't have anything smaller on me, and I didn't know him either!) Maybe it's different in Poland, but I don't really see how this would damage the average working guy's wallet too much?

You should do what you want, and give people whatever you want to give them, but it's pretty considerate of you to ask about such things.

:)
