Life / Polish Christmas Traditions [19]

Dec 16, 09, 22:23 - Thread attached on merging:
Christmas traditions in Poland

Hello,

Since I moved to Poland more then one year ago, I have been hearing a lot about Polish Christmas traditions. Could anyone tell me all the traditions you have related to christmas eve and christmas day, because I heard there are quite a few.

Happy holidays!

It would be nice if we could stick to the topic, since I heard of so many nice things like a priest coming to the house, singing, breaking bread and sharing it and others, I would really like to know more about them and where they originate from.

Life / Stolen car parts [30]

Been living here for over a year now, of which 8 months on foreign plates, never had any problem but the occasional scratch from blonde drivers trying to get out of a parking space, so I think it's quite safe here to leave your car...

Life / Foreign fake license plates in Poland [25]

Well, its not that hard, on new plates u have the little circle above the stripe between the letters and digits, as seen here :

The old ones have this as well but it is not coloured.
If you see a plate with the letter I - M - Q - W in it, it is always a new plate and should have that mark.

Also, if you look at the plate from the side, you can also see the year of issuing in it, for example 06 - 07

Life / Foreign fake license plates in Poland [25]

Yeah, but its very common to see fake Belgian plates since we are one of the few countries in Europe that dont have the European flag on the plates...

I've seen two cars with Belgian number plates in Glasgow today, and they looked differently (I'm talking about the plates of course), is there only one type of lettering on Belgian reggies ?

No, normally all lettering is the same on all plates, only difference is sometimes u get letters and digits (ABC-123) and sometimes the other way around (123-ABC)

I think you confuse them with German transit plates, which as I remember have the same colour as the Belgian ones.

True for some transit plates, but the belgian plates are always 3 letters - 3 digits or 3 digits - 3 letters while the german ones usually only have digits and a lot more, and on top of that, they have a D on them.

I have lived in Belgium my whole life so I think I would recognize a Belgian plate ;-)

Life / Foreign fake license plates in Poland [25]

Hi,

I often see Belgian lisence plates here in Krakow.
Because I am Belgian, I know how they look like, but a lot of the Belgian plates you see here in Poland (75%) are fake, and are on cars driven by Polish people.

I was wondering why they do this, because you can never get insurance on a fake plate.
The thing in Belgium is that the plate stays with the owner, so not with the car, so if they buy a car, there are no plates on it.

Anyone an idea about the why?

Love / do polish girls consider a english man a good catch ? [126]

A lot of them do I think, when I go to KFC or McDonalds and speak english, or even in a club, girls seem to become more friendly every time.

But ofcourse the girl who would like you for that is not the ideal girl to spend a lifetime with

Travel / Nice places to visit around Krakow [14]

Hi,

I have been living in Krakow for a few months now but only know some places that I like and that are worth visiting.
Does anyone know any places outside Krakow that are worth to see?
Everyone knows the Rynek, Kazimierz, places like that but I'm looking for nice places, views, attractions outside Krakow like for instance Wieliczka salt mines, Kryspinow, places like this...

Any suggestions are more then welcome!

Thanks

Love / Why are Polish girls so emotional [16]

This is a serious question,
If I compare Polish girls to other girls they are very emotional/dramatical.
If you do or say something, they always reflect it on themselves, after which you have to do a whole explanation to prove it was not about them or against them.

Phrases like "so you prefer that over me" or "the whole world is against me" are not rare in these cases.

Is there any approach in which you can avoid getting into situations like this?
And please dont tell me "stay single" since this is kind of a hard problem to overcome if you are not used to dealing with similar situations.
