News / English vs. Polish hostility [323]
I pointd out the difference because I really do feel that there is a cultural difference and I would like to think that Scotland is more welcoming ( another forum maybe ) due to differing demographics.
Obviously there are idiots everywhere and Scotland has its fair share.
One example of the differences is that the average ratio of people to sq/km in europe is 116, where I live its 9. So a lot of the "issues" which are "British" just don't apply.
While the rest of the UK are trying to control immigration, the Scottish government are trying to encourage it.

Whatever you buy, try to get it fresh. A lot of the delis have Pudliszki ( Heinz) jars of food, these are not a great introduction to Polish food and could put you off.
I find that Polish people generally take pride in their cooking. Try to make friends with some and ask them for a taste of homemade food.

I have some friends that fly to Berlin and then travel by train to Western PL. Trains within PL aren't too bad and a lot cheaper than BritRail.
You can fly return to Gdansk in March with Wizz Air for £37.49 if you book now.

Sorry Johan, this just doesn't make sense.
The "Celtic Tiger" phenomenom was all about dropping the corporate tax rate and attracting global businessess to the EU. Something that Poland is in an even better position to do now than Ireland was back then..
Ireland has always had industries which have produced wealth, which in some respects, was hidden from the taxman. This wealth was later used to fund the Celtic tiger when conditions were right for investment.

As a footnote,King James VII ( II of England )declined Louis XIV offer to make him King of Poland.
Interestingly, around this time Poland was seen as a land full of opportunties for Scots and many migrated there for work and trade.

The Pentagon has "revised" the number of military desertions in 2006 upward to 3,196 active-duty soldiers -- 853 more than the Pentagon previously announced.
Thats active-duty soldiers, in one year. Now since the occupation has been ongoing since 2003 multiply that by at least four. I would say that was significant.

Hi Monika - Ziozel is no longer there. There are three Polish delis but no restaurant. There is a Polish supplement in the local paper ( sometimes) and there is a PL/Inverness website ( which aint that great ).
Why dont you register here and join in the fun ?

The story I was told was. . . . . the lady that had the shop, it sold Baltic crafts as well, started the cafe as a sideline but ended up doing OK out of it. A few years ago she was one of the few Polish people in town, so if any new Polish folk needed help they would go to her. Being the kind lady she was, this took up a lot of her time and so the cafe suffered a bit, then the shop changed hands.
A good story but the owner probably just decided to move on.
I remember she did a mixed plate of Golbki, Pierogi and Bigos- a great introduction to Polish food.

A Polish restaurant would go down well, I'ness was the fastest growing town in EU for a few years and there is a lot of disposable income around, not to mention a few thousand Polish people.
I think at least one of the Delis will close down, due to lack of quality, its selling the usual stuff in jars that you can get in Tescos.
Its cheaper to start up a deli than staff a restaurant.
