barrach - | 5 8 Mar 2009 / #5There is not a Polish restaurant in Elgin. There 'was' a Polish deli (regretfully flood damaged in New Year), which is hopefully opening again in summer, 2009. Great little shop. I wis Wielsaw and his partner well in running it. Impossible to compete with the fat-cats of Tesco etc price-wise - I just hope that loyalty of the Polish community is a factor to keep it going.I spoke to Tesco and Asda in 2004 to state that loads of Polish nationals would be coming over and that I could advise them on foods to gt in, any Polish signs etc to welcome Polish nationals and cater for them. They almost suggested I was crazy to think that many Polish nationals would come...(!). At last they've finally 'caught on'to the fact that Poles came in large numbers, need to be catered for etc. Now that the deli's around, I'm delighted to see that Tesco and ASDA etc are pretty clueless about Polish items. The Deli (when open again) is still the best by far.P.S: The Greek Restaurant in Elgin High Street (Xoriataki) has a Polish chef and waiing staff. Very nice meal in there, too!
