Food / Polish baking -- sweet recipes [3]

most likely they would all be written in Polish.....your best bet is to go to the library and get a book on Polish cooking and baking. Or try to find a recipe on line written in English. Robert Strybel writes a good one Polish Heritage Cookbook and writes for Warsaw on line where you can ask for recipes also but not sure how fast they would be answered by him.

Life / help me find some Polish music I like (Doda genre)... [18]

Here's another Doda Song for you...quite popular in Poland

Doda
Mam tylko Ciebie - I have only you

Kiedy noc odchodzi
When night is going away

Kiedy noc odchodzi
When night is going away

Budzę się
I wake up

By z Tobą być
To be with you

Kiedy noc nadchodzi
When night is coming

Kiedy noc nadchodzi
When night is coming

Modlę się
I pray

By z Tobą być
To be with you

W snach Ciebie nie ma
You’re not in dreams

Już nie myślisz o mnie tak
You’re not thinking about me so

W snach Ciebie nie ma
You’re not in dreams

To znak
It’s sign

Ref.
Mam tylko Ciebie
I have only you

Powiedz , że słyszysz
Tell me that you hear

Że to nie koniec
That it’s not the end

Już Ciebie nie ma
You’re gone by now

Mam tylko Ciebie
I have only you

Powiedz , że słyszysz
tell me that you hear

Nie ma Cię
You’re gone

second stanza is like the first

Ref.
Mam tylko Ciebie
I have only you

Powiedz, że słyszysz mnie
Tell me that you hear me

Powiedz, że słyszysz mnie
Tell me that you hear me

Że to nie koniec
That it’s not the end

Już Ciebie nie ma w śnie
You’re not in my dreams

Mam tylko Ciebie
I have only you

Powiedz, że słyszysz
Tell me that you hear

Że to nie koniec
Thats it’s not the end

Już Ciebie nie ma
You’re gone

Mam tylko Ciebie
I have only you

Powiedz, że słyszysz
Tell me that you hear

Że to nie koniec.
That it’s not the end

Now you can polish up on your Polish :D
Genre is Pop/Rock

USA, Canada / VISA TRAVEL TO USA [32]

Right now the borders to Canada don't require a passport (for US citizens) That will change soon and be mandatory for all. They usually allow us to cross over for a day visit to see the Falls or go to Toronto for shopping/theater. Soemtimes all they ask is where are you from...depends on the way the moon is setting in the sky and who you approach. Just don't be a wise a$$ about it.

American can come to our country and have sex and every thing with our girls but we can even go to US... !

That's because we know you will try to get even....LOL

USA, Canada / VISA TRAVEL TO USA [32]

gocanada.about.com/od/canadatraveloverview/qt/uscitizenborder.htm

Same for both sides. Right now they are just preparing us for 2009. Then no passport , no entry. Canadians love to come to shop here and enjoy our Finger Lakes, wine country. We cross the border to go to the casinos on a daily basis. So right now money talks. They would loose lots of business. I 'm not sure what its like to enter at another border spot but from Niagara Falls Rainbow Bridge that is the norm.

I'm not sure of Visa's as I never needed one. I know my cousin to come from Poland to Canada for work needs one. I understand that it really is getting easier. Your best bet is to check with the Polsih Embassy.

Genealogy / finding a copy of a Polish will - SKORZEWO, KARTUSKI region [8]

I would find a Polish church in UK and they should be able to help you in the directions you need to take etc. I would contact a lawyer from Poland and not UK that does this. Probably a trip to Poland would be best or someone that tryuly knows what the procedures are for Poland laws. Good Luck. (I just recently wrote for a copy of my ex's will but that was here in the states and I wrote to the probate courts where he lived and where it was filed. Here once a will is filed it is public information otherwise you must be related)

Food / Top food products you'd want to see in a Polish shop [32]

Here polish meats, mushrooms, breads, pastries, candies (my aunt sent me on the plane with some hard candies with a soft fruit center) are some of the things I look for in our European deli here. Farmers cheese to make nalesniki. Pollish Beers. Polish pickles. Just for starters.....here in NYS you can sell beer but need a liquor licence for wines and spirits so I don't think it would work for a Deli. I know in Euro they sell everything under one roof. One stop shopping.

Life / Sending mail to Poland (the quickest way) [11]

Aug 28, 08, 18:35 Report #6

DHL, UPS, FEDEX

they asked for cheapest not one that you need to promise your first born to. If it's only a letter, card then just get an airmail stamp. That is the cheapest and remember no delivery on a Sunday. We get mail here on Saturdays don't know how it is over there.

Life / Doing laundry in Poland [66]

I am still trying to figure out why my clothes need to smell like vanilla or lavender or the other fifty million scents they put out. For one it is rediculous and they are running away from the simple concept of cleaning clothes. Two it conflicts with my perfume I wear. (I have a very sensitive olfactory that doesn't like smelling hair products, deodorant, clothes scents and perfume all at the same time) I buy Tide uncented and like to use the original Snuggles fabric softner. Less is best and have written to the companies and told them so. Even shampoos ...have you tried buying one of those in the stores lately...one brand and 20 scents...come on marketing we don't need it. And I don't have the time to stand and decide which would be best. I only dry my towels and sheets in the dryer as the dryers destroy the clothes. Since I live in an apt I am limited to what can be dried outside so the smell of fresh sheets are out. When I was younger my mom hung clothes out on a clothes line but towels dry stiff so somethings should not be hung outside (although my friend in AZ hangs all her clothes out. one to save elec since most of it goes for the AC. but they dry in a flash out there due to the heat. You can have the most wettest and heaviest clothes dry all with in an hour...wow)

Also since I live in an apt building there is a laundry room for washing clothes. Since it is a coin operated one the cycle I think is set to short. Clothes need enought time to wash and to rinse properly. One hour maybe way too long but 10 minutes is way to short. Those timers are set to tell you length of wash cycle not total wash time from start to end. I think 18 to 22 minutes are about right. Longer for dirty grimy things.

Maybe washers are put into the bathrooms as it is more excessible to water pipes than it would be to the sink in kitchen but usually we have a laundry room or they are installed in the basements.

Genealogy / SIMON - two brothers Stanley and Joseph came to US 1910 [3]

Does it ring a bell?

Thses questions always crack me up. Do you realize there are millions of people that live here so the question is insane to ask. Since they came to the US in late 1800's I would try Ellis Island as that is where most had to go through back then. Otherwise you will have to do much research and try to piecce the info. Lots of time and patients I'm afraid. Do you belong to a genelogy or ancestory group. Goo Luck.

Life / Trumpet fanfare in Czestochowa [7]

are you talking about this or something else:

The trumpet call "Hejnal Mariacki" ("Hymn to our Lady")-is played daily from the tower of St. Mary's Basilica in Krakow. This signal, known and dear to every Pole, resounds all over the city's Old Town historical district. The song dates back to the Middle Ages when it announced the opening and the closing of the city gates. It was also played to alarm citizens of fires or approaching enemy forces. The call always ends abruptly to commemorate a bugler shot through his throat by a Tatar archer in 1241.

The lyrics of "Boze Cos Polske" ("God Save Poland"), which became Poland's national hymn in 1830, were changed to the prayer "Serdeczna Matko" ("Beloved Mother"), when singing of the anthem was outlawed by Poland's occupying powers.

And in 1920, when Russian forces were assembling on the banks of the Wisla in preparation for an attack on Warsaw, an image of Mary was seen in the clouds. "Cud na Wisla" ("The Miracle on the Wisla") is a story known by every Pole.

Love / Pick up lines - the Polish style [110]

You boys better stay your side of the pond cause with lines like those you'll be paddling up stream without any oars for ever. They only work for laugh in films. I'm hearing moans and groans and they're not from getting lucky ;P

Nice photos of NYC. Although I haven't been to the city since I moved further up state I am looking forward to another trip soon and to see the statue of liberty. (now that it has reopened) My ex was from the Bronx. Worked on the Twin Towers when he was an ironworker and several other tall buildings. He lost his goldchild there who was a fireman for NYFD.
