News / The Polish president, Lech Kaczynski, refused to sign the Treaty of Lisbon [43]

With the coming in force of the Lisbon Treaty, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will be forced to indirectly finance the controversial Northern European gas pipeline that is possibly going to be built under the Baltic Sea, LETA writes.

History / Polish Legions in World War I [5]

I couldn't find anything about Polish Legions in WWI (in english)

but there is a lot of books about Pilsudski. he was leader of this movement (Legions) and father of this plan (regaining independence by supporting side fighting against enemies and changing sides ;) to beat Russians and Germans later organise up-rises in German emipre and march on east)

(to Less.. Dmowski have done his job perfectly, but I am Pilsudski's fan)

there is quite a lot of books about him on amazon.com. look for positions about 1914-1920. keywords=pilsudski

you should find titles you need and all information about legions)

I know it is wikipedia :/ but all members are not going to buy book ;)

History / Polish Legions in World War I [5]

beautiful part of our history.

Our hero Józef Piłsudski (Joe Pilsduski ;) )

he had plan. To have independent country we needed Russians, Germans, Austrians. On knees.

Firstly we were fighting on Austrian and German side. When Russia was defeated most of soldiers rejected to continue fight.

Some changed the side on western front and joined french and started to fight against Germans.

After the WWI when we were marching agains Russians there was high propability that "White" forces are going to win, Lenin asked us to stop soldiers. We agreed because agains "White" Russia we wouldn't have help form France. And Denkin (leader of anti-commie forces) didn't like to listen about independent Poland.

(yes we could stop communism)

So we let commies win, after that we started our march on east ... and we had the war in 1920 when Poland won against whole Soviet Union.

That is how Poland regained independence.

going back to the first part of this story

skleptomka.bazarek.pl/opis/195653/ii-brygada-legionow-polskich.html

it is story of formation who fought against
1) Russians
2)Germans
3)Austrians

in one war ;) (at the begining on the side you mentioned)

nice vid. I like to read about Poles during WWI. Pilsudski was simple one of the best Polish leaders.

News / Thoughts on present day Lech Walesa [27]

it is not problem to find authors in country. This book is considered biased and tendentious. read it first and come back here. It is strongly supported by politicans who had problems with Lech in the past.

News / Thoughts on present day Lech Walesa [27]

Lech have been many times holded in communist prisons and there are hundrets of documents about him false or true nobody knows. Mostly emigrants who don't know reality in communist state make stupid accusations (and politicans elected by them).

Lech is ok.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vodka

Poland

In Poland, vodka (Polish: wódka), has been produced since the early Middle Ages.

Large-scale vodka production began in Poland at the end of the 16th century, initially at Kraków, whence spirits were exported to Silesia before 1550. Silesian cities also bought vodka from Poznań, a city that in 1580 had 498 working spirits distilleries. Soon, however, Gdańsk outpaced both these cities. In the 17th (1600's) and 18th centuries, Polish vodka was known in the Netherlands, Denmark, England, Russia, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Moldavia, Ukraine and the Black Sea basin.

Russia

The first written usage of the word vodka in an official Russian document in its modern meaning is dated by the decree of Empress Elizabeth of June 8, 1751

First Wódka/Vodka in UK was form Poland.

We pronounce W in different way than Brits. So It could be changed into V to save original sound.

Work / Polish Labor Is Scarce as Workers Go West [60]

This forum has its shape. And moaning about posters is not going to change it. We need more Ukrainians than we have now. We will see maybe it will change in future. When Poles form UK will fight with Ukrainians for low paid jobs. When Crisise will appear in Poland. Spain has problems with economy, UK has problems with economy the same Estonia ...

We will see. What is sure Brtis moaning about Poles are good for our economy.

Why a hell you want to start talking about polonophobia or what ever. We need Poles home they are comming back. What is more we need more and more other imigrants. Brits, French Ukrainians. Some of them make good money here some work on construction.

Polish invasion on UK is history! Still a lot of people will stay there but it isn't issue any more.

News / How to form political party with Pan Slavic orrientation in Poland? [34]

Well if people of Tejkowski caliber are involved in such a movement it’s bound to fail. His reputation is ruined and he has been painted as Neo Nazi. Even if he was not what the media portrays him as, he can’t shake off his past. He is a communist and always was, and his views are extreme left not extreme right like his recent run-ins with the law and media

IMO there is noticable cooperation between Czechs, Poles, Ukrainans and Slovaks. We can do it without creating new political party. It is aliance but in some cases we simple cooperate. It is progress. I'd not call it slavic unity, we have some common interests.

I think it’s a branch of PWN Polska Wspólnota Narodowa if I’m not mistaken and the leader of this organization is Bolesław Tejkowski.

First time I read about them.

How to form political party with Pan Slavic orrientation in Poland? or cell of some other political party of such orrientation formed in other country?

You have very hard job. :)

News / Do Polish people feel there is a danger of communism growing stong again? [69]

Do Polish people feel there is a danger of communism growing stong again?

before the war communists were on the margin in Poland. Later system was imposed by Russians and our commie margin ... it was like somebody would give power (by brutal force) for BMP in UK and Russian/German soldiers for help to deal with blacks and rule UK ... of course if people form BMP would like to be more independent there would be military intervention ... as it was in Czechoslovakia or when Hungarians made rebelion.

Lets hope that nobody is going to invade Poland to impose this system by force.

History / Pre WWII life in small town Poland [19]

Now it is 70 000 people town. IMO it was much smaller before the war. It was only "powiatowe" town ;)

Cities looked like that

Lwow 1939 - east of the country

Warszawa

In Suwalki there were Cinema Army Churches Schools ... ;-) nothing special. East Poland...

One of my grandfatheres was from pre war Warsaw :), the another was form vilage in east Poland. He finished his school in his vilage. I haven't asked him if there was electicy in his vilage. In biger towns situation was much better.

Middle town is shown in Agnieszka Holland movie Europe Europe, at the begining we can see how towns in western Poland looked like.

History / Poles executed in Warsaw '1939-44' [112]

Poles executed in Warsaw '1939-44'

For Polish people Warsaw up-rising wasn't defeat. It is was sign that we haven't agreed to die without fight. It was moral victory. Fight and not let to be killed in concentration camp. In 1944 there was chance for succes. Russians stoped their armies and gave Germans opportunity to smash Warsaw so we had only moral victory.

Finaly some people don't understand it and don't try to do it.
