Work / How many polish adults want to learn English? [16]

The Polish society is becoming more mobile so while 20 years ago a 40-year old student was considered unserious, now it's more "normal" for the Polish society (in the bigger cities at least).

News / The Polish Economy and its future [101]

To build strong economy, a group of hard-working people who have the same goal is needed. Poles are great as individual workers, but poor as far as group work is concerned.

News / The Polish Economy and its future [101]

Poland having one of the highest IQ averages for any country in the world, 2nd in Europe to Germany and i believe 4th in the world, the future is very bright.

The problem is: The smarter the man is, the lazier he is. This applies to Poles like to no other nation. Nations that don't have that "smart" people, but are dilligent and set to achieve a goal as a group will go much further.

Will we solve the joblessness problem soon enough?

In 10 years Polish citizens will surely not need a visa to visit USA so the problem should be solved by then :) In my opinion, Poland is a nice country to live BUT for some reason the wild spirit of most Poles let them choose other countries to stay and live in.

Study / Studying International Relations or European Studies in Poland? [8]

I assume you'd like to study in English, not Polish, correct? (you'd have to know Polish really well to be able to study in Polish). The system of education in Poland is on a pretty high level and if you want you can get lots of knowledge. I'm sure in Warsaw there are many private and public schools (public universities are usually "harder" in the sense of academic level). A diploma from a Polish university should be now accepted throughout Europe so you can get a good job even in Italy if needed.

BTW - if your girlfriend lives in Krakow, why don't you find a school in Krakow? It's second best "academic city" after Warsaw...

Life / Any South Africans in Wroclaw? [54]

Yes, that's interesting since in Poland it is said unemployment is also high (about 15% I think), so many people migrate to other countries in the hopes to find a job.

Life / Any South Africans in Wroclaw? [54]

Yes, especially in the times of socialism in Poland working in RPA was considered a blessing for a Polish family (good money).

USA, Canada / They give out paczki in Chicago Polish stores [14]

As far as I know Fat Tuesday is celebrated by Americans and it's in fact the same tradition as the Polish Fat Thursday "Tlusty Czwartek". The only difference is the day.

News / Poland over the next 10 years? [79]

I don't know the current situation in Poland, but I'm almost positive health insurance in Poland is almost free now - you need to pay some kind of collection every month that is included in your ZUS [social security]. There are many private insurance agencies that offer health benefits to companies, but only the "rich" or those who care about the employers companies sign up for that. I don't think it's mandatory in Poland to offer a private health insurance/benefits to its workers (like it is in the US).

News / Poland over the next 10 years? [79]

Why would they not sign up for it? for health care ?

Why? Well, for the same reason 50% of Americans don't sign up for health insurance - it is too damn expansive for an "Average Joe." If you're over 50 and want a good health insurance in the US, you need to pay $300-$500 a month for one person. Add your spouse to that...

News / Poland over the next 10 years? [79]

In my opinion, it will definately be easier to live in Poland in 10 years for most Poles. Employers will realize that in order to get their businesses going, they need good and reliable workers. Currently good and reliable workers work abroad for foreign employers because they make at least 3-5 times more for the same job they would have done in Poland. In 10 years some of these workers will choose to stay in Poland and work there too. Consequently, it will increase goods consumption and the overall condition of the Polish economy will be almost as good as some well-established EU countries (Italy or Greece at least). However, there will still be some things that will make the other half to immigrate - especially unreasonably high real estate prices and the Polish beaurocracy (combined with EU beaurocracy). The laws set by the government will not make lives of an average Pole easy. A big shock for Poles will be healthcare privatization; from free healtcare they will have to pay substantial amount of money for health insurance. Most Poles won't sign up for that and will live without such insurance. Add to this still high taxes...

Feedback / FORUM RANKING [18]

According to my calculations (based on Admin's post), the 6th star should appear after making 10,000 posts.

Is that correct?

Yep :) Admin

Life / Polish Driving Licence. [314]

I don't think you can just change your license. I think you need to pass an exam just like other drivers in Poland do (you can drive in Poland on American license but for a limited period of time, I think).

Language / I want to write/read/speak fluent Polish! [60]

The best piece of advice - be a studious and regular learner. There are no shortcuts and wonder ideas - you need to learn word by word and it does take time and determination. But if you dream of learning Polish or any other language the easy way - you are lost at the start.

Feedback / Someone has registered a similar name to mine! [14]

It seems the forums you visited weren't very busy. If you say it should be impossible to register as "Sparky5" just because there is already user with the name "Sparky", the limit of users would be restricted to a few thousands only (there are no more than a few thousand popular words in the dictionary). What about "Spark", "Spar", or "Spa" or "SparkyMan" - shouldn't be allowed either?

Feedback / Request for translation deleted? [25]

I used to love this forum and found it really interesting, learning and taking in all about the polish culture, next thing i knew i had been deleted and had users on here discriminating against me!!!

I've been watchiing your and "tammy's" posts for quite a while and while I don't have anything against you, your and "tammys" translation requests were at times annoying, to say at least. One day she or you opened 20 new topics just because you received 20 Sms's - each went like "Hi tammy, I'm cool", "How are you"? etc. then when there was no reply for 5 minutes, you posted in the same thread something like "Please help me, I cannot wait" etc. Then you come after a while and post topic titles that make no sense (according to the rules) and are surprised it gets deleted. Shhsss.

USA, Canada / Where Can I Buy Polish Music in the United States? [38]

I don't think heavy metal is very popular in the US now. But if you like the Polish classic heavy metal - try to listen TSA.

You can listen to some contemporary Polish metal from mp3 at metal.pl/mp3.php
