Genealogy / Name Identification from an old passport [17]

ze strony ojca: Wawrzynca Stolarza.
Polish names are conjugated. It makes sense now.

It's like the father's name is Wawrzyniec Stolarz, but the kids on the father's side are referred to as born to Wawrzynca Stolarza.

That's how i see it.

News / Twelve coal miners dead. [23]

It shows how fragile our life is. The workers may have said see you later on the way out, or may have kissed their loved ones before going off to work only to never comeback. R.I.P.

green technology anywhere I can, so all of these damned mines will be closed one day.

Apparently, there is still a need for the mines to be open and for people to work there, not only in Poland. I just wish that today's technology would be able to detect the gas before it explodes. Not everything can be substituted with green technology, if it ever will.

News / Should Poland let in refugees from USA ? [80]

Słowianin comes from the word 'słowo', given by the Germans. Brak słowo to be exact.

Are you sure... Slowianin comes from the word "sława" which means fame. In archaic polish it was słava". Every polish Knight would gear himself to fight the enemy with the word "słava, słava". So, if he perished..he was famous and in the legends...

Many old slavic names end with "slawa' or 'slaw" for that reason.

News / Should Poland let in refugees from USA ? [80]

I know that Acorn gives advise how to make cash being a prostitute and not to pay income tax, so i would not be surprised if there is a pamphlet how to turn food stamps into cash to pay for drugs... :)

No wonder the money is drained from the system. Picking up garbage it's the least the people on public aid can do instead of staying at home smoking crack.

Love / How Many Dates Before Sex in Poland? [86]

Yeah... like I want to know ALL his rides around the block or I want to disclose mine.
Everybody lies in this department. Does it it really matters anyway? It's just a psychological crap...I'm his (hers) the most important 'it'. Yeah...right.

Life / WHAT DO YOUNG POLES SEE IN RAP CRAP? [63]

A preference for music changes with age. Our parents or grandparents did not like The Beatles or Elvis Presley. Right?
Rap is pretty crude but it expresses the singers mood... Not everybody can recite words just right to the beat. I happen to like this rap song. The words are pretty subjective, but you can't deny the rhythm is quite pleasant to the ear.

I don't care for 'white boys" rap, including polish. No matter how much they try, it's not 'it'.

Life / WHAT DO YOUNG POLES SEE IN RAP CRAP? [63]

People are still dancing at night clubs to "something" that sounds like disco music, it's just more vicious. You really have to do a lot shakin'. lol. Alright, I grew out of it.

I can't even imagine what they will be dancing to in the next decade!

Osiol, your avatar got a Mexican look. What's up?

Language / Slang words like man, dude [29]

Ziomek/Ziom is a person from an old country, especially when met abroad. Koleś is a cute word for a buddy.

Language / Nice way to say the name? [22]

Gosia, Gosiunia, Gosiuńka, Gosiaczek, Małgosia

Marzenka is correct. Can't think of any other, sweet variation of the name.

Food / Is there any other Polish seafood exept herring and carp? [30]

A person from North America will see carp as seafood whereas a Brit likely won't.

I've never seen carp in American supermarket and most likely never will. Americans don't eat it and I don't either. It is consider a dirty fish feeding on any crap it finds in the mud at the bottom of the river. Most polish families in The USA use another type of fish for X-Mas Eve fiesta. However, still a lot do in the name of tradition and perhaps will for generation to come.

USA, Canada / Budka Suflera Toronto in November [6]

I like some of Budka Suflera'sr songs and I find Cugowski's raspy voice pretty good. Like Bian Adam's or Rod Stuart's.

Chill out, perhaps not... Magdzia would have been a much better choice.
Nonetheless, it is used by Poles and who are you to argue that? Huh? :)

Language / Nice way to say the name? [22]

I'd never say that Madzia is a form of Magda/Magdalena.

Magda:
ZDROBNIENIA (diminutives): Macha, Mada, Madzia, Magda, Magdalenka, Magdusia, Magduszka, Magdzia, Lena.

Happy now? Dariusz, Darjuszek, Dareczek, Daruś, Darusisko... lol.

You guys are funny!

Thank you...

Carry on... :)

Edward, I can assure you. You ask a question on PF, you get answers and arguments!
And that's the beauty of PF.
