News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

First, really very few people which discuss it have ever really read the whole paper..

Have you read it?

Those who pay more should also have to say more...bluntly said!

Of course you would say that, but do you really think that smaller countries are not going to want to have a say about their future and affairs?

I totally agree that people need to be educated more about the workings of the E.U..

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

this treaty was made in way to give more power for big countries on cost of small countries.

When I contact Ireland this is what my family and friends tell me. But also that it is 600 pages long and not clear.
Obviously I was joking about what have the E.U. done for Ireland but at what cost? Before the E.U. I was a big sceptic, my main worry was that the E.U. would be a rumplestiltskin, and after spinning us gold would want our first born. It seemed Ireland was so desperate that not many people thought about the consequences, that the E.U. would want something back. Ireland is supposedly neutral and I always thought it would be mandatory for the next generation to join the E.U. army and go off and fight to the death in other countries for some politician in the E.U.

Like a lot of European countries we fought and died for out freedom, and do not think we are so foolish just to hand that freedom away so easily.

Has anybody read the Lisbon Treaty? and of the half a percent that did who understood it?

what does this say about the world in which we live?????

Probably that people can think for themselves and are not the puppets anylonger of the political parties, media and church

Life / Polish Integration with other Nationalities [150]

I would have liked to move to a smaller, more rural town, but the attitudes are too racist for me to bear.

Really? There is I think one family of blacks where I live and nobody seems to care, why would they. I am not black, but I would have thought that Polish people would be more curious than anything else and of course there will always be some idiots in every group. Why do you say this?

Am I missing the point, is it not just a matter of who you fancy?
I admit that a culture difference can make life difficult and some people are incapable of getting over certain issues in the other's culture.

But surely in Manchester everyone was brought up sharing the same culture?.
I think I have lost the plot, it is very simple for me. I have dated girls that I fancy from different parts of the world.

And as for the scaremongering of Simon Mol and Iranian guys. Are you incapable of seeing the false logic you are using? Simon Mol = black. black = Simon Mol character.

OMG this is ridiculous

I couldn't agree more.

Law / The differences in business cultures between the west and Poland [11]

Hello,
I am just curious, the west and Poland does not sound well to me, if you said the east and west or England and Poland, I would understand better.

I am from Ireland and work in Poland.
I am sure you will get a lot of usefull info from here, but you know yourself, it is the internet.

best of luck

UK, Ireland / ARE YOUNG BRITS LESS INTELLIGENT THAN POLES? [56]

That really is sad.

Agreed

But then again you get a lot of Scandinavians studying medicine here in Poland because it is cheaper and still considered very good quality.

relying on data memorization as it is the case in many countries.

Good point

I mean whose education system is better.

I think that has everything to do with the topic

It has been a matter of debate for more years than I care to remember

Yes and it still goes on...maybe for a good reason.
And I do not think anyone is disputing Oxford, Cambridge etc...

UK, Ireland / ARE YOUNG BRITS LESS INTELLIGENT THAN POLES? [56]

I agree intelligence should be discussed, but I find that people are talking about a natural ability or aptitude and I am saying even this needs training. And that school is a form of training i.e. lower the training = lower intelligence.

I know it says Brits but the Scottish people I have met did not seem so uneducated, so I focused on the English part of Britain, where I do find a huge dumbing down. Is there one standard for the whole of Britain?

I remember Tony Blair in the name of diversity, gave the go a head to teach creationalism in some schools, which I find as absolutely mind bogglingly stupid.

I don't know any academically minded millionaires and I do understand your point.
But that is no excuse for dumbing down a nation.
I think the fact that people are not defending the English educational system but are arguing about what is intelligence and saying a some non-academics get paid immense amounts of money, is to me a sign, not only is it true but because of the lack of education it is difficult to see. There are always discussions in England about the dumbing down of the nation, does Poland have such a problem or discussions?

I have to disagree with all of you except Polonius3's observation and question, Intelligence is a muscle, if you do not use it you loose it. I think the point is that the ground work information in school is at a much lower level in England than in most of Europe. There are naturally strong people but they too must train.

I have worked on and off in England and I generally found their basic knowledge shameful, especially when it comes to other countries, but that is why they are so manipulated by their media.

I do not hold English people to blame but rather their educational system and the moral support and guidance of their elders.
It is something I do not expect English people to face and change.

Life / GAY PARADE IN WARSAW, PL [87]

I remember gay meant happy, ahhh well.
I could never understand if there are gay parades, are there heterosexual parades? Admittedly it does not roll off the tongue, so to speak.

Real Estate / Selling commercial property in Poland [22]

I am looking to buy commercial property in Krakow or Zakopane.

Any ideas?

Do you speak Polish? I know a couple of guys outside of Krakow who do finishes, and for your kitchen I recommend Ikea, they will fit it and everything.

News / France to lift job restrictions on Poles [84]

I am starting to like this noimmigration guy, call him what you want, and you do, but he can sure get the crowd going. And I will argue with him, for the same reason we all do, cause it's fun.

generous

You are Scottish aren't you? not really known for your generosity and sure has Scotland not been sucking from the bussom of its master England for ever?

I know from my friends here in Poland that many Polish people went to fight in France during WWII. And I had always just assumed that Polish/French relations were good.

As some of you have pointed out, this is the idea of E.U. so VIVA LA E.U.

Life / "Why bother!" - Experiences of life in Poland... [47]

mad_one

I have to agree with a lot of what you say and I like the way you differentiate between the Poland most of us love and the day light robbery that is called

bureaucracy.
There really needs to be a shake up of Polish offices and systems. I particularly do not like the Notary (God complex) in this country, although I do think Notaries are a good idea, but they just provide a service and not should not be a syndicate.

It also turns Polish people away from opening businesses in Poland, which is a big shame. But it doesn't look like anything is going to change soon.

Love / Are all Polish women the same..... [81]

You want me to ask you a question about Poland? ok, what is the capital of Poland?
I'll give you a clue, it has nothing to do with this topic,
OK back on topic Wroclaw boy, do you think Polish girls are the same, if so what do you think is a typical Polish girl like?

Work / Polish Labor Is Scarce as Workers Go West [60]

I would be embarressed if the british were known as europes toilet cleaners.

I disagree, I think people who want to better their lives and go to live with edgits like you should be given medals.
I think English people would be embarrassed at you for being such a bigot.

It is actually ask me something about Poland.

I do not understand that statemnet, it does not make sence. Are you saying that what I said did not ask you a question about Poland?

Is this another newspeak expression?
