Life / How do Poles feel about non whites/non Slavs living in Poland? [150]

So you agree that Poles have moved to Germany?

I never disputed it. As I written though it is accidental. Maybe measured in thousands. The real Polish emigration arrived in Germany many years ago. But it is whole different story.

I've seen them with my own two eyes

I am sorry then, but you are wrong or live in an area that is particulary populated by Polish ppl. The emigration to Germany is accidental I would say for many reason, first more ppl speak English rather than German, it is cheaper (sic! but it's true) to travel to Great Britain than Germany, the British economy is better, and finally British people are just more welcoming (eg look at the openness of British market).

If you are talking about sesonal workers, you should realize that that without workers on those underpaid positions Germany would be in even bigger crisis.

I can undestand the flustration of some people over the economic stagnation, but turning into immigrants as the source of all evil is simple cause but not understanding of complex processes in economy and society...

Hey, are you saying this entire forum bashes Blacks and Pakistanis? Prove it is true. Aren't you slandering us? How about this thread, have you read all the posts in it? Are they all, or even majority of them, Black-bashing? Aren't you racist yourself? Can you read with understanding?

Yes, most of them is is one way or another racist, yes I read all of them, no I am not racist why would I?

I am just disgusted someone whould write "Paki" and noone would even find it offensive.

I simply cannot believe this forum turned into a bunch of hateful people saying how bad "Blacks" and "Pakis"(where is moderator?) are. You do not realize simple social situations, the view that African-American people bring crime and deviance to community is rediculous. The saddest is the rejection of foreigners in Poland. Next time when you talk about racism in The UK I will quote what you've written here.

We are all the same! There is nothing like "race". The only difference is ethnicity, if you can't accept a neighbour of different ethnicity living next door to you you are just a racist a****le.

That's all.

PS,
I agree with everything what you said Yoshi with exception of the part you've written about Polish history. Remember that just because something was on the map as Austro-Hungary it does not neccessarily means it was Austro-Hungary.

Travel / Anyone flew with Ryanair from Gdansk Yet? [8]

I flew with them a couple of times, including from Gdansk. I cannot say a bad word about them although their planes are not as nice as those of wizzair. When it comes to cancelling flights at the last minute i doubt it could happen in Gdansk, they are usually flying full over there.

Love / This is probably going to be silly but.. I really want a Polish boyfriend [44]

Lucky you, I love Detroit ( :P ) and I am coming to visit it summer 2009. The need of belonging again is not silly. It is quite on contrary very positive in my opinion that someone wants to trace his/her orgins, is interested in the past and wants to match it with the present. What is silly in my opinion is trying to find partner necessary from that group. I mean, mayby I am an idealist but I think that it is not up to us whater our second half is Polish, Greek, American, Nigeria, Chinese, etc you name it. It is like agreeing on the half that doesn't fit us only because it if from certain part of world. Now, i know that is not entirely what you meant, but it is how i got it! Put I am looking for an interesting/charming/intelligent/handsome (although that's kinda racist again for me :P)/strong guy, and if it turns out he's Polish great.

Ok, I hope I made myself clear, what do you think? Or do you still think it is ok to choose the nationality of a person before you meet him?

Stop looking for a "racism" argument where there isn't one. Read the thread properly!

Love / This is probably going to be silly but.. I really want a Polish boyfriend [44]

I am not saying ppl who look for a ppl of a certain nationality are racist because it is definitly not true, but it is kind of like it. It got some similarities, i might have used too strong words. I just think its silly. It is like asking for a 6'7'' blond, blue-eyed, guy that will come on a horseback.

I am sorry Melaniibby i made you feel bad. I am just speaking my mind. I might be wrong. Why don't you speak back though and tell me why is it that you want a boyfriend of Polish nationaity.

I think love doesn't choose, sometimes when we are looking for something too hard, we can miss it when it is just in front of us.

BTW, where are you from in Michigan? Just curiosity, i used to live in Detroit, as you can easily figure out.

Love / This is probably going to be silly but.. I really want a Polish boyfriend [44]

I REALLY want a Polish boyfriend...and eventually a husband. The problem is that I am not 100% polish, only about 75%. I also can't speak the language, but I'm trying very hard to learn! Do you think him and his family would still accept me? Or am i completely hopeless...? I'm willing to change for him. I know i sound silly, what do you guys think? Thanks for reading, Take care (:

Guys... Honestly... What do you mean I want a Polish girlfriend/boyfriend... Why would nationality matter at all? Is nationality changing us in anyway? Is our passport making us better/smarter/more handsome/etc?

Of course the only difference is in the way that surroding in countries where one was living changed him, but it still doesn't mean much.

I find all this request a bit racist, just as I would find "i want a blonde boyfriend/girlfriend.
But this is just me, so forgive me my...

Language / To sa truskawki , To jest chleb. Difference between the two? [22]

My question is: Why is "sa" used for "truskawki" and "jest" used for "chleb" ?

One more thing. The question is not "sa" it should be "za" and in that case means "that". The verb in the qestion is "jest".

I hope i explained clear ;).

Ohhh, ok, i misinterpreted what you wrote, you haven't made that mistake, stupid me :)

You only made an unimportant spelling mistake.

History / Worst Polish leader Lech Kaczynski or King Stanislaw Poniatowski? [44]

Ah just only economy? And on political horizonts? Dose he deserves the monument will be errected in his honor?

When one has no arguments he stops to discuss and makes stupid remarks. How typical...

If you want to discuss give me some arguments, tell me why Kaczysnki is so bad IYO. Or maybe you think that boosting economy and decreasing unemployment is wrong?

When it comes to the Newsweek article i totally disagree. I actually like fighting for everything in the EU, because finally Poland is taken seriously. We will see how many % PiS will get in the next election. From what we see right now it will be more than what other "ruling parites" were given previously.

Ohhh... and BTW, I am not a huge fan of PiS, but it pisses me off that a lot of people say nonsense about them just because they do so in media.

History / Worst Polish leader Lech Kaczynski or King Stanislaw Poniatowski? [44]

And what are Kaczysnki's best deeds?

Ok. There you go:
-Annulment of tax of inheritance and donation
-Decrease of excise tax
-Simplification of dispossesion (if highway is to be built) (BTW, previous, too complicated law was created by... SLD)
-Becikowe :P (in my opinion very helpful for young parents, the couse of the law was completely misinterpreted by media)

History / Worst Polish leader Lech Kaczynski or King Stanislaw Poniatowski? [44]

Kaczysnki? He is the best president so far in "the third Rzeczypospolita". I think Kwasniewski was definitely the worst. During his leaderhip he was doing nothing expect stealing money and blocking some good projects.

Poeple... Please, do not believe everything they say in TV... Poland has never been devoloping so fast. And do not tell me it is because of SLD, because it will make me laugh.

Life / Relocated from the US: Warsaw or London? [24]

I will have the same salary regardless of which city I choose

So you say same salary? Than your choice is eeasy: Warsaw. It's way cheaper, it still is big city, and when you're bored (however there are many places all over Poland to visit) you can fly with cheap airlines all over Europe.

The language can be a problem because... you'll find that with most young people, especially those who are educated, you can easily communicate in English, so you won't have a motivation to learn Polish :D

A short slide show with pictures of Warsaw.

Real Estate / Advice on what Polish city to invest in.... [101]

Quoting: i_love_detroit
In ten years prices are gonna by 2-4 times bigger than what they are just now.

Then Poland will be called "ForeignLand" as the property owners will not be Polish, but foreign. If today an average Pole would have to pay the mortgage for an apartment in the city for 30 years, do you think in 10 years they'd have to pay off their apartment for two generations? Highly doubt it..

Well, in Calgary where prices go up even faster than in Poland, people pay mortgage for 15-20 years, and they are much wealthier than Polish :)

Quoting: i_love_detroit
Why? Because these two cities are now developing very fast, and moreover they were choosen to host Euro 2012 so there will be additional impuls for economic growth.

That could also be the reason the properties are way overpriced already...

Not really, because Poland has been host of Euro 2012 for a couple of days. Do you really think properties in Poland are overpriced? I doubt it. In ten years prices are gonna by 2-4 times bigger than what they are just now.

Life / what are the statistics on sexual abuse of children in Poland? [33]

It is what I am saying :). If a priest was unofficialy accused of abusing child (as I said there were a couple cases) he was just moved to another district. It's not a solution! If he was really abusing kids he should face consequences. If he was accused falsely than... well, why to move him to another district?

But the problem has cropped up in the UK, the USA and Down under

Which doesn't necessary mean it's a serious one in Poland...

Life / what are the statistics on sexual abuse of children in Poland? [33]

Ok, let me say about two thing.

First, to all people that accuse priest in Poland of abusing kids. How do you know that the problem is so big? It's so popular nowadays to criticaze church for everything. I can't see (almost) any parents concerned about their child's relations with priest. There were maybe 2-3 cases that actually were not handled properly by the church but that's about it.

Next, be extremaly careful when you accuse somebody of abusing kids. I work in two professions that are very often falsely accused of sexualy abusing kids: babysitting & teaching. Lately I talked to experienced teacher and he told me he knew a guy that was accused of abusing his students. He was fired and outcasted even though it turned out he was innocent.

But I don't want you to think that I think that the problem does not exist. It's a serious problem, and we (people) haven't really learnt yet how to deal with it. But I think either shooting/castrating these people is not a solution, but it's also trendy to say. We got to learn a way to prevent child abuse.
