Real Estate / pruszkow property [14]

My home town, Ołówkowa is in the old part of the town, prices are not too high.
Oh, and one thing, in poland there are 3 cities named Pruszków that i am aware of, if you mean the one near Warsaw, then probably "ołówkowa" is the right name, could be also "Oliwkowa" but if it is, then it's not my town, cause i don't think there is such a street here.

Life / Smingus-Dyngus - Polish tradition [155]

but surely there must be more to it than that?

Now it's just fun, but in the past there was a tradition that on easter monday boys threw water at girls, the more soaked the girl was the more atractive she was considered. So it was really a sad thing for a girl not to get wet at all, no water=no husband, some sort of a fortune telling.

Language / The only polish word a foreigner won't ever say correctly :P [113]

special one: "zamarznięty" what means freezed, remember to say r and z as separate letters

Yeah, this could be a bit hard, but just say the "r" "z" like in the word "Tarzan" ex: wrzuta.pl/audio/3q0cWOXaIP/

Language / The only polish word a foreigner won't ever say correctly :P [113]

Start by making a gutteral 'h' sound at the back of your throat - like you want to clear your throat when you have a, shall we say, very wet cold.

Well... Not really, the "h" sounds more like you let the air out like in this one: wrzuta.pl/audio/dpFXUzaaeB (yup, thats me) here are 3 examples of how the "h" or "ch" sounds. And here is the "chce" word said twice: wrzuta.pl/audio/jQoYkMxG0J

Language / Translations of Gadu-Gadu [158]

posith wrote:
IRC isnt' very popular nowadays

yeah, its not very good...stick with gg

Just because IRC is not very popular it does not mean it's not good. Yeah, gg is far more popular, but you have these fcking ads all over, same for tlen, aqq at least for now does not have so much of them, miranda is ad free (if i remeber corectly) but to make it useful you have to get dozen of plugins. IRC is the best way to text-talk online that was ever made, so what it is a very old protocool still works for many people

Language / Translations of Gadu-Gadu [158]

Don't bother installing gadu-gadu... This is a thing you use only cause people you know use it, not cause you like it. Tlen is better, same for AQQ. or just use IRC which is the best method for online chat. If you need help with any of these program PM me.

News / Eurovision Song Contest: Isis Gee to represent Poland [156]

Well.. First of all, we have to remeber that the eurovision song contest is not a festival of high quality songs, so i think that the song "for life" is a good choice. Poland won't get very high probably but we always don't (except of Edyta Górniak)

Language / Translation Dictionary [10]

A rather simple thing, but you wanted simple poltran.com
It's an enlish version of the polish translate site.

But remember, always check in both ways. Cause even if you get a word translated, it doesn't mean it is translated right...

Work / Work and Life in Warsaw [5]

Don't know really what kind of salary you should consider, but i'll tell the minimum to live on a comfort lvl in warsaw (are you sure you want to live in warsaw? my town is at least half cheaper then warsaw and it's only 17 km from the centre).

1000-1500zł the cost of renting a flat, of course there are lower and higher offers
don't know anything about your needs in TV/internet/mobile phone but lets say 100-200zł
electricity/water/gas 100-200zł
And if you don't eat much, and live alone then 200-300zł will be rather enough so you won't starve to death ;-)

now to the fun part :P

Average price of beer in warsaw: 5-7zł (in clubs/pubs/bars)
If you have to pay to get into a club: around 10-20zł
vodka, depends on what kind is it, but: 8-15zł for a glass (for that price you can buy whole 0.5l bottle in normal shop)

Average price of ride in taxi: 1.50-2.60zł/km for a day time ride (x2 in the night)
by bus (warsaw ZTM include trams and tube, metro or how you want to call it): normal ticket 2.40zł (one ride, one bus), 24h ticket 7.20zł, month ticket not sure but 69zł

if you would like to get a driving license: 1500zł for learning, 134zł for exams, 70zł for the driving license after you pass the exam

Life / Is plastic surgery a large part of Polish culture? [35]

I didn't say that all the poles want to get plastic surgery. I meant, that many of them want to, but only thing that stops them from doing it is money. I personaly don't know anyone who wants to have one either, but things could be diferent if the price for this kind of "change" were lower. I do hear from time to time "if i had a choice i would change this" or "i don't like this in me", so you never know...

2.20zł with VAT for every minute of outgoing call inside of EU

1,10 zł z VAT za każdą minutę połączenia odbieranego w Unii Europejskiej

1,10zł with VAT for every answered call inside of EU

Odbieranie SMS-ów zawsze jest bezpłatne, a wysyłanie SMS-ów na całym świecie kosztuje zawsze 1,95 zł z VAT

Getting smses is always free, and sending them costs 1.95zł with VAT all over the world.

Vat is a standard tax, and if i'm not wrong it's 22%

Life / Poles in Poland: How did you learn your English? [60]

Well, that is true, when you know how to write the word, and you know what does it mean it's very easy to assume that you "speak" in that language fluently. But when i comes to speaking in rl... that's another story...

Life / Poles in Poland: How did you learn your English? [60]

I'm 22 years old now, i started learning when i was.. hmm... about 5, maybe 6. First it was private lessons, then some in school and cartoons in english. Now it's web sites/games/programs/music/books in english, just to be "in touch" with this language. And that's it for me.

But when it comes to the polish officials... You know, they were raised this way, russian language in schools. The new wave in polish politics are young people who speak fluently in not only english, but many of them know 2 or even more languages.

Love / Valentines messages ideas - English guys with Polish girls [55]

roses are red, violets are blue....
this would be the polish
"na górze róże, na dole fiołki, a my się kochamy jak dwa aniołki" very old one and a bit childish for me, but....

"on top there are roses, on the bottom there are violets, and we are in love like two angels"
Or something like that...

But if you really want to send a woman/man a poem, by all means... Try a bit more harder...

Love / CONFUSING FRIENDSHIP? She doesn't want to go to Poland now. [30]

Wel.. This probably will sound harsh but think about how your friend looks. Many guys here (and not only here) "judge the book by its cover" and get embarassed if their friends see them with a girl who does not look like a model from magazines cover. They feel good talking privatly to the girl, but doesn't want this to get to public, even if it's just friendship. This is one option, and a very probable one.
