It wont help a bot, there is no point in wasting the money. At our age, our brains have gone past the point at which we can pick up language form the tv and the polish spoken on tv is so fast that it wont help.

Also the quality of polish programming leaves alot to be desired

Im not sure, but dont the SAS recruit from the royal marines or the paras? I'd say, from what I read, that the SAS chooses u, not u choose it and to enter u really have to show ur worth. I'd liek to know how many foreign soldiers are in the British SAS.

It is stupid throwing money at Africa, the people never see it. They should be taught more efficient methods of farming, we should help them develop their own water filtration systems and theach them how to live in a more efficient way.

The interest in Catholicism is also a factor which doesnt help the AIDS issue as the pope tells these ppl that they cant use a condom. Archaic atiitudes like this should be changed as well.

Shelly is right Fair Trade is really helping African people as now they can have a sense of pride in what they are doing and they can finally afford to keep their families.

Puzzler, never have I seen anyone so wrong. Minimum wage in UK UK is now 5.35 and any Pole working in the UK LEGALLY is entitled to that. THere are also many British people working for this wage. To earn anything over 8 pounds hour for the type of jobs that immigrants do is unusual. What the hell do you expect someone waiting on a table to earn? Its a fact that all the good lawyers and doctors etc stayed in Poland as there was always plenty of well paid work for them here. The ones that had no or little experince went to UK to do manual work.

As for the living conditions, who chooses to live like that? An average British citizen has to pay a mortgage or rent of around 500-700 a month whereas theser polish guys choose to live together to avoid these costs. Last summer I went home and went to a Polish friend's house party, they lived in apalling conditions, matresses lined up on the floor, a tiny fridge etc. THEY CHOSE IT.

Puzzler, out of interest, did u ever see the thread on here where one of ur fellow countrymen warned foreigners not to buy land in Poland as they are not welcome?? Look it up. I think her name was Ola sth

Ok so first of all, I speak Polish well so that is not an issue. Secondly, the thousands of people who are going to come here for the Euro 2012 are going to run amuck. I teach English to Komendia Wojewodski in Gdansk and thez told me that for the foootball thez are going to invite the British/Spanish/French etc Police out here to help them to control the crowds.

It is a fact that the Police here in Gdansk are looking to fine people. Gdansk is a special case as it is close to the border of Russia so they have some sort of Border police as well. It is these guys which are the assholes.

Seanus, I did not concoct this story and it quite upset me actually. I have never actually been in trouble with the police, i have needed them and they have let me down on a number of occasions. I live in Sopot and mayb e the police in the countryside are helpful but here they employ anyone - literally. They just dont have the money to have a decent police force and im sure this will improve in the future.

For those people who know neither me or my friends, they have been stopped by the police for not having their lights on in the car or for crossing the railway line instead of going to the station.

Of course, if u need nothing to do with the police they will leave you alone but when help is needed then you cant rely on them.

Firstly, most of them dont speak English. My friends have all had situations where they stop talking to them cos they have to speak in English so they basically just get away with it.

When I first came to Poland I called the Police to move a car out of the way which was blocking mine. 2 policemen came in a clapped out old polonez and one guy was trying to tlak to me while the other guy was sat in the car kicking me in the back of the leg. They were swearing alot and when they finally left the kicking cop gave me the middle finger.

I was walking in the old town yesterday where there were 2 policemen (about 1 in the morning). The older policeman went looking for a toilet whilst the other one (who looked barely 12) begged him niot to leave him on his own. It was quite pathetic.

Also, their radios are funny. They have the big radios which they have to carry in thiir hands (dont know if they have a beltclip or not).

I mean when compared to other Europena cities incl. London and Cardiff, it is relatively quiet here. After the clubs close, ppl just tend to go straight home. You have to see it to believe it.

Concerning the night life, I dont know what other cities of Poland are like but the Trojmiasto area is like a ghost town at night.

The charges for the cheap airlines are insane. They now charge 9 quid per bag. also they have a small trick, if you dont read the terms and conditions you will find that the travel insurance box is already ticked so you get charged for that as well unless you've had the foresight to uncheck it. I live in Gdansk and the only 2 airlines flying there now are wizz air and ryan air. I am restricted to Ryan air as they are the only airline that flies to Bristol as the 4 hour journey from Stanstead/Luton to Wales sets me back even more.

Basically Przeczytalem indicates a more complete action, so I read it and finished it, whereas czytalem doesnt indicate how much you read.

The same is with pic & wypic. Wypick is the same in English as drink up - to the end, whilst pic is to simly drink.

The difficulty comes in the differnece between the words Przeczytam and bede czytal.

When is the last time u caught the bus? Seriously, in Trojmiasto where I live, the transport system is rubbish. I hate the way u have to pay for 2 singles here unlike in UK where u can buy a return.

As for technology, there are some ways in which Poland can be seen as being close to Western standards but there are ares in which they are really lacking too. The mobile phone industury being one - no free upgrades, expensive contracts and no compensation in case of loss and damage.

Those people who complain about the British healthcare system read a few stories in Polish newspapers which like to sensationalise any hint of trouble in the British system, and make their decisions based on that rather than personal experience. A friend of mine died in Poland a yr ago because the doctor who was supposed to give him his monthly shots forgot about the appointment. 4 days later he went into a coma.

Every system has its problems? Have u ever tried queueing for stamps in Poland. The Polish post office is a disgrace, it took me 1 hr to pick up a letter. In Uk we have machines for this or you can buy them in most if not all shops.

It is the welsh that are descriptive. When we have to use a word to describe a modern concept in Welsh we have to use English cos its too long to say it in Welsh. Thats why most welsh speakers speak Wenglish
