carp is awful, in my opinion.... it is so sticky and tasteless. there are many more kinds tasty fish like salmon etc but it is a tradition so you have to eat it every year... my favourite dishes on xmas are uszka and pierogi z kapustą i grzybami.

well, every new language seems more difficult than your own one but when it comes to comparing English and Polish - English is much less complicated when it comes to grammar so it is easy for Poles to learn English. i guess it is not so easy the other way round.

i may say that now about 80% of children at schools learn English, thats why so many Poles can speak it quite fluently.

well, actually you're wrong. of course, some products are cheap and of low quality, but some are well known products sold under a different name only in biedronka, but they are the same as everywhere else (but cheaper). for example - BAKOMA's yoghurts, which are pretty goog (they have different name but on the packet you will read wyprodukowano przez Bakoma dla Biedronki etc.), Campina's yoghurt, some sweets etc.

It is not as popular as in the US, I guess. Maybe some celebrities get plastic surgeries, but among "normal" people it is not so common. I myself doesn't know personally anyone after a plastic surgery.

no, it is the culture in my opinion. having something "changed" in your body is still seen as something strange, a stupid whim... Once again, i don't know anybody who dreams of having a plastic surgery and only the lack of money prevents them from having one. i think that many people in Poland believe that if you look like something, this is you ang changing anything just to look better would be a kind of "cheating".

contrary to a popular opinion, there are many rich Poles, and many that are not very rich but can afford for example a nose surgery. and they don't have plastic surgeries. . . so? i really think that there is something else that prevents them from having a plastic surgery

I will use a stereotype - it is widely known that Poles grumble about everything (and it is to some extent true). Most people who grumble about everything, grumble also about their looks (even if they doesnt let it show)

But let's hope that Poles do not grumble at all:P another stereotype has been vanquished! (i dont know if it is the right verb to use here but who cares)

i started learnig English at the age of 10. i had private lessons - believe me, in 99% of public schools you won't learn much. at highschool i had a very good English teacher (it was a public school but we paid 120 zl every month to have more hours of some subjects - thanks to this i had 6hrs of English classes per week).

Well, I have a CPE, but my speaking skills.... ekhm,... I'm planning to go to England this summer and be an au-pair there. i hope I'll manage to go.

IMO "sorry" has been well adopted by Polish culture. by many people it is no longer viewed as a foreign word - we don't say it with English accent and we spell it with strong Polish R. using przepraszam among young people (if it doesn't mean asking to be forgived for something) is rare. prszepraszam is very official and many people can't imagine saying przepraszam when they want to tell somebody to get out of their way etc. sorry is most commonly used in Poland in the sense of "excuse me" than "i'm sorry for something...". BUT i guess that it's only the youth culture that uses it so commonly. in serious situations etc nobody uses sorry! nobody says sorry to their teacher...

just like "buziaczki", "nara", "strzałka" etc. dont say they have taken the place of "do widzenia"!!!

cream of tartar is not SOS TATARSKI! people! it is used for baking, the polish name is kamień winny (wodorowinian potasu) but I know nowbody who usues it and I doubt that you can find the thing in polish stores.
