History / Territories of eastern Germany should rightfully belong to Poland? [161]

Most land of East Germany and coastal lands of Germany were settled by Slavic tribes. One such group was called Polab Slavs made up of these tribes; Chyżanie, Czrezpienianie, Tolężanie and Redarowie and smaller groups like Wkrzanie, Morzycy and Rzeczanie. The second large group was called Serbsko-£użycka group who were made up by such tribes as; £użyczanie, Miliczanie, Selpoli, Bieżuńczanie, Serbowie, Żytycy, Koledzicy, Żyrmuntowie, Susłowie and Dalemińcy.

During the reign of Karol Wielki or Carolus Magnus in case you still wonder who it is you might know him as Charlemagne there was a border established between Germanic tribes and Slavic tribes the so called “limes Saxoniae” which ran along the Elbe river all the way to where the mouth of the river finally reaches the sea. Lands east of that line were not forced to take on the Christianity and Charlemagne was satisfied whith just the tribute being oaid to him by the Slavic princes who ruled that land and for the moste part were allied with him against their rival Germanic tribes. That was in the year 789 after the Charlemagne's and his Germanic allies campaign against prince of the Wielet tribe Dragowit.

In 795 prince Wiczan was assassinated by the German tribe Sas during the German rebellion against Charlemagne and the Franks, and in 798 prince Drożko defeats the German tribe Sas at the battle of Święciana. Even after the death of Charlemagne in 814 there was relative peace and quiet till around the year 844 when Ludwik the German initiates his eastward campaign against the Slavic tribes. Not until the death of the last Rugian prince Waclaw III in 1325 that the Germans are finally in the full control of the lands that are East Germany and the coast west of Oder river.

I think that as the last survivors of the Slavic Tribes in that region the Serbs should govern the region as their own, after all it is.

PS Sorry for the Polish names but I don't feel like looking up the English equivalent of those names

Genealogy / Goralczyk and meaning of czyk [14]

Goralczyk, I heard was from 'the mountains'. My Dad said that is grand-dad was from Austria, and my grandmonther said her mother was from Kat-something or Cat-something but not the main city Kawcrow.

Originally probably Góralczyk but both forms exist in Poland. Goralczyk is found mainly around Katowice, Góralczyk mainly around Kraków Wadowice also around Kolno NE Poland. Eastern Polish patronymic turned-surname probably meaning son of a highlander, but if you prefer Hillbilly it's OK too.

History / Famous Polish Russians. [26]

Dzerzhinsky off the list, he was a self hating Pole, administered the Katyn Massacre into action and monitored it

Are you for real? He died in 1926, Katyn happened in 1940 how could he administer this massacre and monitor it? He was dead for 14 years.

to purge certain foreign ethnic gorups-one being Poles) until Stalin the Poles deported.

Now here's an oxymoron, Poles deported themselves to Russian far east.

He was a criminal in Poland and was put in the Warsaw Political Crimes Prison, until it was bombed by the Russians in 1935 and he escaped.

Once again we have a miracle on our hands, shall I remind you one more time He died in1926 in Moscow. Dzerzhinsky served several prison terms, the last time he was serving his prison term as a political prisoner was in one of Moscow's Prisons. BTW he never escaped, he was released from there when Tsar abdicated, that was in 1917.

Other thank Poles, being the leader of the NKVD, he monitored the starvation of over 3 millions to 7 million innocent Ukrainians in the Stalinist famines of 1937,

Once again he was dead, dead, dead as a doornail by this time in history. Black Famine in Ukraine happened in 1932-33, this happened 6 years after he died. Yes he was a Pole by ethnicity but he was first and foremost a Russian Communist born and raised in part of Poland that was under Tsarist Russian control therefore a citizen of Russia. What are you trying to say here? That it was not the Russian communists and Stalin himself that were responsible for the famine in Ukraine but somehow Poles were involved?Even if you are making this connection here through Dzerzhinsky because of his ethnicity forgetting everything else you know about the man, like I said he was long dead before this happened.

requested HIMSELF that the dog tags of many red army soldiers be pulled off to make the unidentifiable to the Germans and so lower casualties could be supported (no country in the history of mankind has treated their war dead like this), likewise he aslo ordered NKVD officers to shoot and kill any Russian soldiers whom were seen retreating or surrendering. I also got his pre-NKVD history off of an encyclopedia here:

Here you are talking about the events that happened during WWII, once again long after his death, so how did he “requested HIMSELF”? As you put it. Perhaps it's not the fault of the source that you try to learn your history from but your reading comprehension skills that fail you.

Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin regarded Dzerzhinsky as a revolutionary hero, and appointed him to organize a force to combat internal political threats.

Other than the fact that they were both fighting for the same cause Lenin and Dzerzhinsky rarely
saw eye to eye on many issues. His appointment came about not because Lenin liked him or even admired him but simply because he was one of the powerful grass root leaders of the communist movement and as such he could not have been ignored or overlooked by Lenin. It's obvious you learned your history in Russia or Ukraine during the Soviet times. What's couple of years this way or that way? It's around the same time so what's the difference? I had enough, no more, please.

Just checked the profile, your a Yank, this explains it all.
The title of the thread is Famous Polish Russians.
Is he Polish? Is he Russian? Is he famous? SO why you want him off the list? He was an SOB, we all know that, be it good or bad it dose not matter he fits the title. You on the other hand have to learn a great deal.

Language / Word order in the Polish language? [11]

but i think the last word is spelt in correctly

It’s spelt correctly, nothing wrong with this.

jak to się mówi-nieszczęścia chodzą parami, czasem i czwórkami

As they say, misfortunes come in pairs, sometimes quadrupled. (like in Latin quadrigae - team of four).

History / The Poms who stood by the Poles in WW2 [156]

I wonder if the British politicians would have decided differently if they would've known what the price of WW2 would be in the end.

Do you? I suppose you never did wonder what the ultimate price might have been if Europe was left to the Nazis.

History / The Poms who stood by the Poles in WW2 [156]

Did I ask an inconvenient question?

Not at all.

Europe was left to the Nazis for almost 5 years

It has not, during this entire time there was someone to step on their toes.

I don't believe that Britain stood up for Poland because it was a noble cause or because they wanted to protect humanity from the evil Nazis. It was all about their own power and influence in the world.

Great deduction, so haw is it different from the opinion of many Poles on this forum, and that a lot of you get so offended by.

UK, Ireland / Poles returning to the UK [33]

Its quite worrying really

Like Polish food products carried by Tesco are indicators of Polish mass migration to Britain again. Don’t you people have a more reliable source to back that up? If it’s such a bother place the restriction or quota on migrants and be done with it, no need for that PC crap and no need to worry.

Most of them would had been happy Nazis if Germany would had won...you better don't forget that!

Most of them would have done what they had to do for themselves and for their families to survive the war. They were not driven by Ideology or some false sens of patriotism for Germany but circumstances they found themselves in ..... you better don't forget that!

News / Does Poland count in Europe or is it ignored? [427]

Shame on you BB, have some respect for your countryman, we all have skeletons in the closet and what we have done in our youth probably not our finest moment but this is uncalled for. I still respect him even if he’s a German.

News / Does Poland count in Europe or is it ignored? [427]

That the history of the Germans in Poland starts with WWII?

Let’s see in Steinbach case yes, yes and once again yes. Her father as an technician in Luftwaffe have been send to Rumia in 43 on an assignment at the local airfield, her mother visited her husband there on an occasion but was based in Berlin it was during one of those short visits that Erica was born there by chance. In January of 45 Erica with her mother and sister left Rumia and settled in Schleswig-Holstein. What Uncle Hitler gave to the proper German family in the name of conquest Uncle Stalin with his Red Army takes it away and now all that fuss for the sake of a career. She played a fiddle in her youth and you still dance to the tune she plays. Where is that long history of Germans in Poland in her case? Wake up and smell the coffee, to be blinded by patriotism is one thing but to be ignorant in history is another. But I guess like a good little German as soon as someone plays a march, you march

Food / Mushroom Picking Parties (Poland tradition) [74]

In Russian we call it "Polsky Grib" (The Polish mushroom).

In Poland it's known as "podgrzybek brunatny". Why do you call it Polish mushroom?
Bay bolete in English.

Food / Mushroom Picking Parties (Poland tradition) [74]

i think ,it is prawdziwek

Looks like a deformed "Kozak" to me. Now here’s something for Sasha. Russian flavor of the Polish name of mushroom. As for the “podgrzybek” you can usually find them at the edge of the forest and in SE Poland they are plentiful. I rarely pick them, there are better variety to pick but if the pickings are slim of course you take those too.

Polkamania, why in the world would you post a photo of an Amanita species and label it this way?

Because there’s a variety picked in Poland "Czubajka" or "kania" (Macrolepia procera) that is very similar to and often confused with "muchomor sromotnikowy" (Amanita phalloides) "death cap" which is lethal. They are excellent; the way to prepare them is to fry them up in batter like a pork chop. But this one is not even close to neither one.

Life / Why are Polish people so ruthless? [87]

AnglikMan

There’s nothing like a woman scorned, perhaps you’re getting in touch with your feminine side. Rejected by a polish lady, all of a sudden everyone polish is bad. On the other hand it might do you some good to take the rose colored glasses off and see the world for what it really is.

Life / Why are Polish people so ruthless? [87]

Why the harsh line?

Because some people don’t know when to let go. If he did not know she had a boyfriend fine no harm in trying, but once he found out he probably couldn’t let go still making advances so he’s perceived as some sort of a pervert. You can’t expect her friends to treat the whole situation as nothing happened. There’s more to this story than meets the eye.

You can't join the dots when you don't know how.

Yet he's joining the dots. Why would all her friends turn against him? There's a reason, he just skipped the details. It's her friends that shun him, the question is WHY?

maybe she was leading him on like they do, you know the type, saying she doesn't love her bf etc.

True, but once you figure it out you take it like a man. You win some you loose some. You just don't hang around and blame the world.

Life / Why are Polish people so ruthless? [87]

It boils down to gratitude

Indeed it does. Personally I think Ksysia is right, the one case of uncaring he’s talking about in his opening statement turned to revenge dished on all of them. Now all of them shun him. What he perceives as ungratefulness and rudeness is payment in kind. Whatever favors he may have done previously have been negated by one act of revenge on all of them simply because he can. So who’s the A-Hole?

Life / Why are Polish people so ruthless? [87]

Perhaps my comment was uncalled for especially on a public forum, but your comments and reasoning is immature. Given the position you hold at the place of your employment you should have know better than let your emotions and personal life choices dictate your ability to make sound decisions on behalf and in the best interest of the employer. You are unfit to hold such position in the first place. What you describe as acts of kindness and friendship can only be viewed as playing favoritism to one particular group simply because you like the girl. Even this so called act of kindness as it was described by you was not a selfish act but rather a sinister plot on your behalf hoping to get something in return. The girl, even willing to bribe her friends and grant them favors to get what you wanted. Believe it or not but this is not professional behavior or that of someone who is mature and rational.

You were and still are willing to use your position for personal gain (read revenge). Those are all signs of a derange mind, not of someone who takes pride in his work, being professional no matter how minuscule his position is, one that keeps his personal life separate from that of business. Where is your impartiality, objectivity and ability to evaluate any given situation on individual basis? You let your feelings do the thinking for you. Since when a relationship that went sour is a national trait for any group of people and how you can make that connection is beyond me. Perhaps you were wronged by someone but that’s no excuse to blame entire group of people. In time your personal feelings expended this hatred of perceived wrong to entire nationality, judging from the title of this thread. Does this sound rational to you?

Since you asked the question opinions were given, yet you still pick and choose the ones you like while dismissing the ones you don’t like. Given the fact you decided to have this discussion on an open forum you open yourself to all kinds of criticism so perhaps you should grow a thicker skin before starting these topics. In conclusion; I can honestly say you have a lot to learn about relationships, mature behavior and professionalism. Try to keep them separate.

Since I take offense to what you have said perhaps I should start a thread how inconsiderate and stock up the Brits are, surely this must be a national trait.

She told me about these ladies and my cousin had to fired them.

They even stolen money too.

The ladies that work for your cousin never got paid, I heard. I also heard that your cousin makes so much money from the business he/she just bought his/hers second vacation home on the moon. Perhaps he/she should hire some nice Jewish ladies instead.

Typical American whining and telling tall tales, make something up more believable next time. If they wanted money from you, they would have accused your rich friends’ husbands of rape like you accuse them of sleeping around and take you for all they can, instead of stealing your petty cash laying around. As for your husbands’; have you considered the possibility that perhaps you should take control of their sexual urges or at least satisfy them, which brings us back on topic, end of story.

I dislike Yankee trolls.

All women are controlling, from the very first date, the question is how much are we willing to give in. There’s a term for that “Pantoflarz”. I’m sure you’re not one of them.
