Travel / Traveling to Koszalin? [13]

I want my children 9@6 to go to Koszalin this summer. I have a chronic pain condition @ travelling will be very difficult. Supposedly, my doctor thinks a pain patch will get me there and back? The doctor thinks I should have treatments in Poland. In Poland ,it wouldn't be appropriate to take care of my health? I should be taking care of the kids and visting with family. My Polish is little. My father in-law has spent two summer's in America. We both speak little of either language, but love and adore each other. Somehow, we communicate. What are some thoughts to language, culture, and special care- massages...? Most importantly, travelling there. My husband can't go because we have our own business and new real estate investment (plus, the economy has affected our business.

Travel / Traveling to Koszalin? [13]

Yes. I will probably fly to Coppenhagen then to Gdansk (his brother,wife@kids live there), from there drive to Koszalin.

Thank you for the travel options and Spa information. I hadn't thought of those options? Good advice! I will explore all travel routes. I will get there!

Travel / Traveling to Koszalin? [13]

I think a family member will pick me up in Gdansk. Probably, my father in-law. That's how he travelled when he visited us. Otherwise, will need to move to plan B. I'm independent, I wouldn't want to impose. If I did do it on my own, any suggestions?

Travel / Traveling to Koszalin? [13]

Thank you for that extensive train information! I want to simplify travelling as much as possible due to the children. My husband thinks the train is a bad idea. He insists Tata will come pick me up. He seems to think it wouldn't be safe? Information you gave is great-thanks. I will keep this information as an option?

Love / Where did you meet your Polish other half? [33]

At the Polish Home at a dance. Love at first sight. Went with my Polish friend and she of course new him. The whole Polish community by the next day knew that he had met an American. He called the next day @ 10am and had a date that night. Happily married and have two beautiful children. Must be the Polish/American genes...Smart too!

Travel / Traveling to Koszalin? [13]

Thanks for the additional information on trains and scheduling and for addressing safety concerns. I found that Polish men especially, are very protective of the women in their lives? I don't mean to stereotype, only from experience. They like to keep a close eye on others intentions.

Love / Do Polish Women with Blonde hair look more beautiful than with dark hair? [25]

My Polish husband definately prefers my blonde hair. I'm naturally, a medium blonde not the bleached platinum. He actually notices hair. He noticed someone that was blonde went dark and he said it looked terrible. He said never surprise me by going dark. Plus, it wouldn't look natural. I also, don't want to go lighter.

Life / Banks in Poland - Any good recommendations [30]

I do not like or trust banks. Every bank always rolls out the red carpet when you give them money, but good luck getting your money when you want to use it! I think they intentionally stall to make more money off yours. I closed an account in a day and it took almost 2 weeks for the cash? Thank you for the banking information in Poland. Other people's experiences really expose a banks reputation.

Life / Living in Poland without working? - Your opinion [63]

Joemamma: Where did you get these statistics for US? I'm very good with money, but that wouldn't even cover a mortgage on a low end house with interest rate under 6./.

USA, Canada / Work ethics in Poland vs US [66]

My husband came with $300.00. Worked extremely hard. Now owns his own business and real estate. Polish people for someone reason think that money drops down from the sky in US. Perceptions are stereotyped as well. His brother thinks we should support him in Poland? Need to keep working towards our goals. Life in America is hard work. If we were set for life, I believe in helping family and do. His aunt from Montreal was visiting him and she paid his telephone bill? He's 41. His parents gave him a home, they both work, yet he thinks the world owes him something. He could have stayed in Canada and work hard; he chose not to (too much work.) Good topic.

USA, Canada / Work ethics in Poland vs US [66]

True, no generalizations. Pure speculation and experience. You either have ambition or you don't. It is frustrating when people are lazy and want the easy way out. I don't understand one thing: why people assume your rich. Just like in Poland, money doesn't grow on trees. My experience with Polish people is that they do have a very strong work ethic and appreciate life more.

USA, Canada / Work ethics in Poland vs US [66]

Yes, EDUCATION! I understand that college is free in Poland or you have to go into the service? I don't think college should be a choice. It should be a continuation of the rest of your schoolin. That experience is priceless. The problem is transferring that knowledge and degree to another country. You can do it, never become a creature of habit. I can't even imagine working in a factory day in day out making money for someone else. You can only rely upon yourself to get ahead.

Very good point about college. It only teaches you how to think and is only a piece of paper. Most bright people are bored. No one should be forced to go to college; just because. Good that you didn't fall prey to others and did your own thing!

Life / Polish men in shorts with sandals and socks.. [63]

Men: It's best to not wear socks with sandals--period. Oh, and no speedos. My Polish husband will not wear sandals? Is this taboo in Poland, but he says men DO wear speedos? Thank goodness he's vetoed the speedo gig. It's better to leave something to the imagination...sexier. Still working on the sandals? We live in the Northwest and it is the way to go.

Language / mizeria - cucumber salad? [23]

Cucumber Salad#1 (Mizeria)
2 cucumbers 1 cup sour cream
3 green onions 2 teaspoons lemon juice
salt/pepper to taste 1 teaspoon sugar
Peel the cucumbers and slice very thin. Salt well and set aside for a few minutes. Squeeze the cucumbers to remove excess water. In a small bowl, mix the sour cream with lemon juice and sugar. In a serving glass salad bowl, mix the cucumbers, chopped green onion and the sour cream mixture. Chill before serving. Can be made ahead, but keep the cucumbers and chopped onions in separate bowl for the sour cream mixture. This cucumber salad can also be served with vinegar and sugar to taste.)

Life / Polish people more caring? [20]

The Polish culture from my experience is very loyal and close. Perhaps, due to historical occupation. My husband lived under Communism. Rations, tanks at the corner, censorship..it's fascinating how these factors cultivated an inner strength, will and religion- Roman Catholisism. Pope John Paul liberated Poles to have religion and churches. In the Northwest we have a smaller Polish population about 3,000 plus, two Polish Churches, and The Polish Home. This is a very tight community dating back to 1870-1880. Which is actually later than most immigrants 16th century. It's a wonderful place that carries on Polish traditions. In fact, that is where I met my husband. I admire the spirit and closenest among other Poles. They will always be caring to one another... Interesting topic... The Polish also, know everything about everyone. Why is that?

Life / Polish people more caring? [20]

That is a good point. I have noticed (please forgive the generalization, but this thread is based upon that.) Why do Polish people always have to try to out do each other? Who has more money and materialistic things. I have found that people who truly have these things don't put on a show. They know what they have and don't.

Life / IKEA in Warsaw [30]

Interesting. It is an experience. Crowded, one entry/exit, and huge parking lot. Most people drive there. The quality doesn't have longevity, but people in US tend to like the prices. Personally, it's not my favorite. I can see how it would be different in Poland. It might be interesting..

News / Child with Polish ex, is 275 Euros a normal amount for child maintenance? [53]

Wow, I'm shocked that the comments are so biased towards this "Amoeba," (insightful name). Granted you didn't ask for moral advice only money? I think this determines the type of supposed man you are. There are two sides to every relationship. Obviously, it's apparent why she left. I think this is a moral issue within you. One needs to face the reality of their actions and turn it into a positive situation. An innocent child will live with the consequences of your heartless behavior. An intentional denial and lack of responsibility shows your true character. "The child won't even understand you?" It will be a natural bond. It's your blood. The child will feel the connection. Perhaps, re-evaluate your inner self. I have never heard a man so stone cold. Why your current wife isn't seeing who you truly are is a mystery. Oh, and most people on PF probably wish you wouldn't visit again. What a depressing situation. LOSER!

It's a bad sign when a woman wants money but otherwise wants to keep the 'father' out of the picture, a very bad sign. But then, that doesn't seem to bother you as you somehow have no 'feelings' toward your progeny.

Rest assured that this child will at some time in his/her life want to contact you.

What ever a mother's personal feelings are towards the father, it should be irrelevant. The child's interests are the most important and a mother and father should protect that!Hopefully, "Amoeba" at this time has learned from his cold heartedness before the surprise visit.

Love / Polish guy broke this black womans heart, now he wants me back....what do I do?? [27]

Pretty Polly, please forgive me, but do you honestly have to ask what to do? Any self respecting person with confidence would never tolerate this one sided relationship. CO-DEPENDENCY..Be stronger and not deliberately weak. If your doing these things for him it's your fault. Relationships are not fairy tales where you can wish some one wil be this or that or they'll change. You can't change other people, but you can take control of your LIFE. Give yourself more credit. You can move on without him and you will be happier as a result.

Life / What gifts to get my Polish hosts? [8]

I was wondering the same when I go.., but my father in-law took back to Poland the following:
JEWELRY, expensive clothes, art work, beauty products (collagen?-women love the age products perfume/cologne), toys: barbies, beautiful dresses.., oh, and they love our wine and non perishable delicacies, chocolates etc.) It was a very big, heavy box. He brought gifts back to everyone. Our Polish aunt, (from Montreal) just returned and gave everyone $500.00? I would love to hear more feed back. Come on what would you like from US?
