Love / Polish women are known for their beauty, but men are so ugly (most of).. [250]

I think that some of the girls are attractive, and have lovely figures but I would not say that they have a real reputation for outstanding beauty, otherwise they would soon become supermodels, which there does not appear to be many from Poland.

I also agree that young women from the Uk and other western countries have become so overweight it is hard to see their real beauty, and behave more like men than women, which I am sure can be offputting for many men.

The spanish have some beautiful women with beautiful figures, but that does not mean to say they are known for their beauty.

Love / Whose Life is it? Polish girlfriend under family "house arrest" [224]

2. she has a history of mental illness (high stigma that never wears off)

Really, is there such rejection of mential illness that the family do not want to be associated with this. It sounds so much like the 50's in England.

I am just interested does this bring disgrace on the family? that they just don't talk about it.

Love / Whose Life is it? Polish girlfriend under family "house arrest" [224]

I can remember commenting to my friend in Poland that very rarely do I see retarded people in Krakow, such as Downs Syndrome, people mentally retarded in wheelchairs or any such disability which is visible. She replied that they keep them in the house and very rarely expose them to society. I know that there are not very many facilities for these people to go, in the day, unlike in England. (day centres etc). I suppose that it will change little by little, but it does seem a little draconian!

Thanks anyway.

News / Forget Ukraine! The question is: " Is Poland going down??" [36]

Investors take their chances but who, in their right mind, would heavily invest now?

This is the precise time to invest if you have the money, of course it is. The clever people in the banks predicted this 2 years ago and got their cash out, and now are willing to invest again with a hugh profit. hey are the winners all the time. The ones that read the market are the survivors. They are the first ones with the information.

News / More and more jobs moving to Poland from other parts of Europe... [50]

Yes, lesser, but what jobs are moving? Surely it's just a case of different opportunities in different countries.

No Sean its the same opportunities for a cheaper price! Large firms relocating to Poland has beeen going on for the last 10 years I don't see why there is such a panic now amongst the British. I suppose when the "chips are down".

News / Forget Ukraine! The question is: " Is Poland going down??" [36]

Of course some people are going to come back but not a majority, despite your best wishes.

I don't wish polish people to go back. I have no problem and never had any problem with this. I take people for what they are, whatever their nationality. However the £ to the zl is bad, and many will go back because jobs in the uk have rapidly decreased almost overnight. It is hard in certain areas for people of any nationality to get a job, it is really that bad.

Depressing as it is, it is an everyday occurance for companies to announce that they are closing down, or shredding their workforce. Even the menial of jobs, many people are applying for.

News / Forget Ukraine! The question is: " Is Poland going down??" [36]

This financial crisis is artificially created.

There is alot of truth in that statement. It beats me how some of the top paid, top educated people at the top of their professions could not see what was about to happen "almost overnight". However, surprise surprise they appear to come out "glowing", whilst the rest of use have to sweep up the crap.

Sorry I just have to say this. Everything I as brought up with honesty and moral values appears now to just turn around and bite me on the ar.... Just what type of society have we turned into where we would rather see Jade Goody's suffering than watch Mastermind.

News / Forget Ukraine! The question is: " Is Poland going down??" [36]

there were enough people who warned for the bang...

Oh okay so they knew what they were doing, but did not really care about the consequences, because they knew directly they would be okay. They just have to give up one of their holiday homes, that they frequent once every summer, unlike many people who are losing their homes and their main source of income.

I wonder if the nation would be more forgiving if a pilot took off with fuel. Sometimes in life someone has to take responsibility. Seems this has been forgotten.

Love / Just met the man of my dreams. I'm an American girl, he's Polish. [49]

I know just how you feel. My Polish girl caused me to become a grinning, babbling idiot when I was in her presence

Randal it might have nothing to do with the nationality, it may be the case that you have fallen in love with someome who is different to whom you usually date. She has unearthed something that has laid dormant in you for a while , and brought back that side which you had forgotten about.

A bit like finding something in the attic from years ago which used to make you smile, but then you got all mature and outhgrew it, then suddently it appears in your life again years later and releases the inner spirit, that has been dead for years.

Some people make you feel like that, but I have to admit they have to be special.

Travel / Krakow information: looking for pubs/clubs for students. [22]

Nope, not there, nearer nowy kleparz

Nowy kleparz is near the student accommodation, depending upon which way you drive. Come on tell us the name of the pub, I shall not bring my British friends there I promise, really really really. I am curious,I think that I was possibly in this bar, after a concert at the university. If you tell me the name I shall tell you the price of the beer at that time.

Love / My polish ex threatens to commit suicide after separation [62]

She is too senditive.I cannot write to her like that.Basically all the conversations followed the same motiv which was what are you going to do to keep me? and then if you don't want me,life is not worth living

People who have a full scale conversation about suicide, don't actually commit suicide. (It is an attention seeking device) The ones who actually commit suicide do not discuss it with anyone.

I guess that you just attract the insecure ones!

UK, Ireland / What is in Poland that England doesn't have? [142]

It is true these places are extremely beautiful, as are the places described by Sir George.

Each place whether it be England or Poland are captured for their natural creative beauty and individualism, therefore it is totally unfair to to state that one is better than the other.

UK, Ireland / What is in Poland that England doesn't have? [142]

We lost our upper class after '39 butchered by USSR so this culture is lost in Poland

I would be grateful if you could explain. Do you mean when many of your academics were persecuted under the Russian's. I would just like to know a little more from a Polish view, rather than from international history that one reads. Thanks.

UK, Ireland / Polish chef jailed for double rape in Leeds. [42]

Aren't there any English rapist in England.

There are "nutters" everywhere and in every walk of life. It just becomes sensationalised and sells downmarket tabloids if the nutter comes from Poland, something a bit different. It actually detracts from the main issue, which is a person has been traumatised, probably for the rest of her life, and may need councelling for the rest of her life, but of course this is insignificant because it does not sell newspapers.

Life / Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people [150]

I think that racism comes with the "narrow-minded approach" to life, by all nations. It may be generated by people who have travelled to host countries, for periods of time, but may well have refused to integrate, because of either low-self esteem problems, superiority illusions they have, especially in countries that they percieive to be sub-standard to their own. (ie they become king of their empire because they are able to employ people to do the menial tasks, normally undertaken by themselves in their own country).

Others may undermine a country, and people less fortunate than themselves to make themselves look good.

All in all racism is not good for any country, as it achieves nothing, absolutely nothing.

That is strange, as I am looking at the english open countryside and time is 22.21. Maybe there is a slight time difference in your english countryside of l hour. Which english countryside are you in?

Life / Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people [150]

Oh yes the time on the Polish forums must be in Polish. Sorry.

Yes I agree with you those nasty worms can can spread malicious gossip around, especially as they travel around so quickly. Generally people in the country are less accepting at first, but very sincere in the end. I suppose that they just do not like change of any kind, or any new people in the village. Are you in North Yorkshire? a beautuful part of the world to those who have never been.

Life / Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people [150]

I once asked her if there were any ethnic minorities living there, she just laughed and said that they'd be a lynching mob if anyone even came to view a property....

Sounds like a great little "inter-bred village", I bet there is loads of creative talent coming out of this village!

To allow strangers in, especially from other countries would force them to open their closed little minds, and force them out of their comfort zone, and into reality.

Travel / Where is the best seaside resort in Poland? [12]

somepeople have told me about Hel !!!

Yep Sopot is the place, great beaches, not too built up with Mcdonalds and all the fast food rubbish. Easy to visit Gdansk, and overall a great place, 40 mins from Marlborgh Castle(spelt wrong I know) by train. Hel just over the water, you can go there for the day there is an aquarium and visit the last house in Poland.

I love this place, and the people are great. Really good for families too, as the beach is super, and you can walk to Gydinia along the seafront, or cycle to Gdansk with the cycling paths.

You can always say to your friends that you have been to Hel and back in one day!
