noimmigration, I do find you views very strange especially coming from up north. Scotland needs immigration due to the falling population trend over recent years. The last few years has started to see a small increase due to immigration. Looking at the demographics as well, we need younger people coming into Britain due to the ageing population otherwise the country as whole cannot operate in years to come.

Your views are similar to the town I grew up, and it confuses me why you do not see the bigger picture. At the end of the day Britain is a great place to live, especially Scotland, due to the diverse culture we are allowed to enjoy, which is enhanced by the different nationalities that live here. Unfortunately you will not learn and will always hold your views.

As has been said above, the Daily Mail is written for a certain section of the population that the rest of the UK is very ashamed of.

Ok markets are in turmoil at the moment but shares have fallen so much over the last 14 months. Financials yes share have fallen a great deal recently but, in my view, are dirt cheap at the moment for medium to long term. Times like this the P/E is key!!

Diversification is key, but to work it has to be diversified from the start, difficult choices to make now if you haven't been fpr the last year....

Life / When in Poland, should I be British or Scottish? [104]

When I am abroad I would always say I am Scottish, especially around Europe. People seem to relax when you say you are Scottish for some reason. I go to Poland for the first time in 2 weeks, and if asked will certainly say I am Szkocki!!

As the saying goes once you here someone the street talking about it sell!!! Still some ruff times ahead, wait and see if AIG survive a month or so. Shorts are good when you have knowledge to back them, which you seem to, although dangerous to the less well informed.

As I keep getting told from my compliance officer past performance is not a guide to the future. Investment returns may go down as well as up!!!

LOL!! I need a holiday!!

Travel / Skiing in Poland - Krynica [4]

Going skiing in Krynica over New Year this year, driving down from Lublin. Have skied in Scotland since I was young, also skied in Bulgaria, Borovets. Anyone been, any views?

I have not voted for a number of years now, which some will say is stupid, but for instance at the last eletion I asked a number of parties what will they do for me?

I was single, living alone in mortgaged flat, employed, not one party had anything that would benefit me, most would/had increased my costs. Social stuff, justice very difficult to tell the main parties apart. So there was little point in voting especially under the current system.

UKIP are not the BNP I agree but they are so close it is frightening, they are definetly xenophobic, IMO

Stefano, I am not trying to be rude but have you typed into google EKUZ and then on the first link click on translate. All you need to know, is there, also for your info clicking on European Health Insurance Card it says the following:

Note: EKUZ is not proof of insurance in the National Health Fund the right to health care services in the territory of Poland. This means that a person insured in the NHF can be used only EKUZ in other member states

You managed to find this website but didn't do the obvious, or am I missing something?

I have seen it and thought it was a good film, had to watch it a few times to fully catch everything. Although it has been some time since I've seen it, got the DVD somewhere.... As I remember the ending was a little strange when it pans over the crowd, I probably missed something?

Food / Where to buy Irn Bru in Poland (Lublin)? [14]

Hi all again,

Does anyone know of anywhere that sells Irn Bru? I am currently in Lublin and I am desperate to find some, as my supplies are running low!! Have tried a few supermarkets but no joy as yet.

Travel / Cheap flights from Northern England to eastern Europe? [10]

One thing you have to remember with RyanAir is they are a budget airline!! They are very good if you stick to the rules, being a budget airline they will not offer the flexability other airlines might. At the end of the day you get what you pay for, everyone I know can have no complaints about them.

Study / University in Poland is too easy [68]

I think the other thing you always have to remember with Uni is what course you are doing, this is from a UK perspective is it the same across europe?

For instance I studied Chemistry with Biochemistry, had on average 5.5 hours of lectures/lab work and tutorials a day. On top of this you had to prepare for tutorials and write up lab work. To pass you must pass all tutorials, lab work and about 5 exams 3 times a year. Compare this to some other courses where you are lucky if they have 2 hours on average a day of lectures. Although these course expect a lot of additional study. To pass project work and exams can not remember how many.

So it really depends on the course, and uni to decide how hard and "good" your degree is.

The only one I know, was a drink that I think they used to sell in Poland called Fart, although not offensive. I was in Poland recently and saw a few things like this just can not remember them now, searched for the drink but could not find any....

Travel / Skiing - Krynica, Poland. Lack of snow? [30]

Ok folks back for some help again, hope one of you kind people might be able to point me in the correct direction. I am meant to be going skiing in Krynica on the 27th of December, but there looks to be a major lack of snow!!! So I have a couple of questions:

Is there anywhere close I can drive to that might have snow, doesn't 100% have to be in Poland?
From peoples experience is the snow situation likely to get a lot better in the near future? The only forcast I can find says 2cm will fall in the next week, although I think there needs to be about 30cm!!

Cheers folks, unfortunately been booked since May this year as my partner is back seeing her parents in Lublin, so we decided to extend it a bit and spend new year skiing, well that was the plan anyway. All slopes in Krynica have cannons but it is 5 degree at the moment, it has been colder in Scotland the last few weeks!!! Oh well sure we will get something, cheers again for the advice any more welcome!!!

Thanks but not going there I got fouled by that website a couple of weeks ago. It is Krynica Jaworzyna which is in the south on the Slovak border. I am using this website, and the weather link from it:

UK, Ireland / ARE SCOTS INTOLERANT RELIGIOUS FANATICS? [5]

Unfortunately Scotland still has bigot issues, although I should say even though I am Scottish I do not understand much of the history around it. These issues are still apparent in Scottish football especially amongst Celtic and Rangers fans and to a lesser extent Hearts and Hibs.

It is not somehting we happy with and work is going on to change the views but like any country we have our problems.

Although to call us religious fanatics is a little harsh and over the top!!

Work / Looking for a Finance job in Poland [11]

Little bit of advice I have worked in Financial Services in the UK for well over 10 years, now in a senior position. If I was employing and saw a CV from someone who had left uni 5 years ago and has already worked for serveral companies I would not employ you as you do not seem to have any commitment at all to a company so would not waste my time and that would be in the UK never mind someone from a different country.

Sorry just my view on things.

Travel / Best place to get polish currency and Bielsko-Biala? [13]

People asking about exchange rates a little example from when I was over in Poland in October, rate offered by the bank was around 3.7 but the highest in the UK I could find for buying was about 3.8. Once over in Poland, Lublin, the exchange rate from kantor was about 4.33 from memory.

So a lot better in Poland in my experience, was back over in December and did not even think about getting money in the UK.

When I was in Poland the big differences I noticed in supermarkets were that you are not allowed to take a rucksack into the supermarket in Poland!! This is annoying for me as I do not like plastic bags and prefer just to use a rucksack but you can not do that in Poland. The other big difference is fish, in poland there are tanks of fish for sale, this sort of thing does not Appear in the UK noticed this in both Tesco & Macro.

No rucksack, that was not in Tesco but Carefur In Lublin, I was really surprised. Just thought one of the main difference that I found, although not just supermarkets, was that they do not put money into your hand but on a dish or just the counter. I found this very strange.

As for the fish I think it has more to do with in the UK we do not like to know where our food comes. There are a lot of people who for some reason do not associate meat with an animal and therefore seeing a Live fish would put people off. What do other think?

Easiest way is type into google.co.uk flat rental Aberdeen and you will get all you want, although I would expect the below to be the best.

Yeah fair enough, but I would not say from what I have read here it is overly Anti-English. Comments fly about discussing things and how people view coutries people and what not.

If we were to start a rule of not posting anything that might offend someone them what is the point in a forum? To me you discuss certain topics and views or am I missing something, again before anyone says something!!!

Work / Maybe moving to Poland - Help and Advice [7]

Hi folks, have read these forums for sometime now and have seen a number of topics which have been interesting but now looking for a bit of advice. My partner and I are looking to move to Poland over the next year probably, if my flat sells.

I have been working in UK financial services in a Marketing department for over 10 years (in the same company) where I am now a senior analyst in charge of a team of Investment Marketing Analysts. As we will probably end up in Lublin in the South East and therefore I understand jobs may be like gold dust, although Warsaw is also an option. Therefore I am going to hopefully sit an English teaching qualification next year which will hopefully open up other employment opportunities. Would online TEFL be enough or should I go for CELTA? Would it be better to do it in the UK or in Poland? If CELTA, would it be beneficial to do a basic online TEFL course first? I know the sort of salaries on offer for this work so understand it would be substantially lower than what I earn now, but money is not my motivation here. I have experience in training within my current role but obviously in a completely different subject.

I will also try and get a job in my current field but feel this may be a step to far due to my poor grasp of Polish but intend doing a evening course at the start of next year to hopefully improve and get a basic certificate. Are there any recruitment agencies in Poland I can consider to help with this, I am currently using UK Internationals ones at the moment as I already have contact with them.

Any advice would be warmly accepted,
