History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

that Stalin did sought, or was even preparing the USSR for a war against Germany.

Stalin was preparing USSR for a war against the West.It was unknown if Germany or another country would attack. The preparation started in 1928 after all the communist parties in Europe had been defeated or their memebers imprisoned.Stalin told the central communist party commitee that SU has to prepare for a war which will take place in the next 10 years,so it has to overcome the gap separating it from western countries in weapons and industry development.

In fact the Soviets tried to convince Germans to go to war against Poland since 1920's.

Very wrong.Stalin did not want a common border with Germany in any case. The Nazis would build roads and railways and be able to attack soviet Union the time they had completed their preparations.

His efforts to increase industrial output and create a meaningful military strength, IMO, is not a good indicator of any specific wars, targets, or perceived aggressors. For a country such as the USSR it was simply prudent to work towards having a strong military.

Not exactly.Lenin and Trotsky had chosen the non-military,politically centered interference in international affairs.Soviet Union during Stalin rule was isolated internationally and all its supporters had been defeated.(in Germany in 1922,in GB in 1928,in Hungary in 1923,in Spain in 1938 etc),so Stalin chose to strenghthen military instead of growing political influence, sure that Soviet Union was the next to be attacked.

That was also in 1941 after the German attack, and almost two years after partisan forces well already pretty well organized in other parts of Nazi occupied Europe.

Stalin could not have taken such decision when officially the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was valid. It would provoke Germany and maybe make GB sign pact with Hitler allowing him to attack Soviet Union.

The partizan forces before communist parties interventions were very weakly organized and penetrated by Gestapo in most cases. They were not a real rival for Germans.

Partizan forces under communist rule were very dangerous and managed to hold a major part of occupied lands under their command for example in Yugoslavia,Greece,Ukraine.

Also, Soviets helped Germans restore and develop their military might on the Soviet territory since 1920's. I

They provided them land to develop their aircrafts which they did not have the right to produce under Verssailles treaty. The obligation of the Germans was to give Soviet Union technical support and knowledge to develop soviet planes which would adopt the same technology improvisations as the german ones.Thi stopped when Hitler came to power. You cannot tell which part was more benefited because both were.

Stalin started to produce ammunition for long term war years before WW2.Examples are the soviet tank T-34 which was totally unknown to Germans before seeing it on the battlefield or the assault rifle PPSH41 which were very advanced and did not have german equivalent when the war started.

The decision to move all industries to Urals was made in the first year of the war as wasthe decision to organize partizan forces by communist parties in occupied Europe.

News / Polish soldiers and the legacy of Depleted Uranium. [30]

You will never find out what is this Golf war syndrome. It is military secret.Tens of thousands claimed to suffered from it,the US government claimed it was simply a form of posttraumatic stress disorder, however it paid disability compensations to some thousands of them.To pay compensations means something,or not?

I only wonder what would have happened if 3 million Jews were living in UK instead of Poland. How would Germans avoid the temptation.

I completely disagree with you interpretations. Think what you want but this is bizarre for myself.

They are not interpretations. They are facts.Things that happened. The resettlement of industry in Urals was something that happened. The armament production really happened. The preparation for war was a fact. The troops moved from Siberia. The resistance movements took place. If you think all this happened accidentally and was not planned or that it was not ordered by Stalin or that Stalin did not control it or disagreed,it is possible that you are wrong.Do you think anything major happened in Soviet Union without the command or consense by Stalin?

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

He begged the west for help,

I think the West begged Stalin for help.Even as late as 1945 if you see Churchill's letter.
Stalin was not naive at all.He had foreseen the german attack from 1928 and told to the central communist comittee ''we have 10 years to prepare for war that will determine our existence and if we fail we will be lost''.That is why the Soviets had so many tanks, artilery and planes when the Germans attacked. They were heavily equipped and prepared while the West was not ready. So Stalin

1.Decided to increase and improve armament production in view of war
2.Sent Molotov to sign treaty in order to take new army positions as to delay the Germans and stretch their supply lines when they would attack(which would not happen if the Germans had already done alliance with Latvians,Estonians etc before attacking).

3.Transported the industries to Urals to be outside the range of german planes
4.Decided to remove the forces from Siberia risking in case of Japanese attack and placed them in Moscow in order to attack Wehrmacht in the best time. The attack stoped the german offensive and caused danger of total collapse of german front which was saved by the personal insistence of Hitler that the troops remin in their positions despite the suggestions of generals who feared a catastrophy

5.Stalin listened to Zukov and left Stalingrand with weak forces in order to attract Germans inside and then encircle them by specially prepared forces which crashed specific areas of the german front

6.He insisted that western allies open the second front in Normandy from 1942-1943 which British always delayed and at the end admitted that they would do that in 1946 or later.

7.He set the national and ethnic background for the war and sent to communist parties all over Europe orders to organize partizan forces against german resistance under national ideals.

Seven successful actions. How did these not have to do with the victory of the allies in WW2?

The numbers matter.Poland sheletered 3 million Jews for centuries.GB had only 50 thousand and these only in 19th century who became 150 thousand in the 20th century.

Stalin greatly contributed to Russian sufferings and to bad reputation of Russia. Why would Germans assassinated him?

Because they regarded hm as incompetent in the beginning of the war and then they faced the touchest possible resistance they could imagine. They found out that Stalin has deceived them about the power of the red army and they had fallen into a big trap carefully scheduled.Hitler admired Stalin.

Stalin said,''nobody will ever understand the way I think because I do not reveal my thoughts to anyone.People and historians will never understand my actions''.

I
In East Ukraine many people speak russian without even knowing ukrainian. In Crimea they say they are russians, not ukrainian at all.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

To credit him with this victory over Nazis is ridiculous.

Why?He took the most important decisions.Capture of Baltics by Molotov-Ribentrop pact to delay the Germans, transfer of the industries to Urals where they were invulnerable to german air attacks, transfer of siberian divisions in winter 1941 to counterattack Germans before Moscow risking attack of Japanese and lose of eastern Siberia, decision to encircle Germans in Stalingrand, putting capable marshalls as Koniev and Zukov heads of the army.pressure on allies to open the western front, defense of Soviet Union as a national issue, organization of guerilla forces all over occupied european countries with national goals and large support, decision to put commisars into army to secure fighting spirit, and thousand other things in detail level such as choice of the right tanks to produce, right mashine guns etc.

What did he do wrong?Stalin was so dangerous that the Germans decided to assasinate him while Hitler was left untouched by British due to his disastrous strategic decisions after 1943.

History / Poland: we have an interesting history. [72]

While the second battle of Tannenberg(this of 1914) took in reality place in Glogau, near Tannenberg. The Germans called it deliberately battle of Tannenberg to take revenge in the same ground of their defeat.

t was a matter of honour for Hindenburg whose remote relative had died in the battle of 1410.

ussians ? no way ! only about 400 Russians particpated in this battle

The Russians were the ones who fought toucher than everyone. They caused the admiration of the Teuton knights due to their bravery. They managed to hold the center of the allies when the german attack created danger of collapse. The Lithuanians run away when the Teutons attacked but came back after personal interference of polish king.

History / Poland: we have an interesting history. [72]

How is possible that Russians (precisely- Russian elite) that greatly mistake in central Europe?! Why they oppressed Poles? Why wanted to control Poland instead to consider Poles as partners?

The Russians had no real intention to suppress Poles.Occupation of part of polish land was meant for security reasons in order to prevent attack of Germans.

When started problems between Poles and Russians and who is responsible? Anyone?

Basically they started in 15th centrury when the Russians tried to become independant and keep the orthodox tradition while Poles were inspired by Popes to crusades to the East.Lithuanians became catholics by polish influence but Russians were already orthodox and refused to change.

Of course the real crusaders were a little more west with the appearance of Teuton knights who tried to expand german territory to Baltics and former Poland.

So in 1410 Russians,Poles,Czechs and Lithuanians having realized the threat which Germans represented allied and crushed the Teuton knights in the famous battle of Tannenberg which Germans have never forgotten.

Battle of Grunwald 1410

It is widely known as the battle of Tannenberg as the Germans called it to take revenge in 1914.One of the Teuton knights who fell in this battle was called Hindenburg.

Mostly copied from the then model of a proffesional army, the Ottomans "christian" warriors

From the Ottomans they copied the moustache. The turkish angry moustache had created quite an impression in Europe. If you see all the kings in 17th century in Europe try to compete for the most impressive moustache.

Basically it was the attack of the Poles. The Poles were very fanatic in these wars against ottoman Empire. They dissolved the turkish army which had never sustained such a defeat. After that the Ottoman Empire never managed to raise up or threaten Europe again.

History / Poland: we have an interesting history. [72]

In military history magazines. The austrians had made an agreement with Poles,in case Turks attacked Krakow,Austrians would help Poles and if Turks attacked Vienna,Poles would help Austrians.Poles kept their part of agreement and they crashed the ottoman army when Vienna was about to fall.

Poles could have heavily benefited by this battle as Austria lacked any military after turkish attack and they could conquer Vienna and many parts of the Austrian Empire.

Instead of that the noble Poles prefered to withdraw and the Austrians rewarded them 80 years later.

We smashed (King Sobieski) Turks and saved Europe form musilms

This was great. The Austrians at that time were in their world organizing excursions outside Vienna to admire the ottoman camp! They behaved like the Turks were sort of touristic attraction.

You have quoted only the first sentence without the evidence to support it,so you can answer as if it were an ungrounded personal statement. Can you deny the historical facts which follow? If I split and isolate the sentences the way I liked,I could make everyone appear moron, psycho or whatever.

History / Jewish love towards Poles [389]

With Jews there seems to be a problem.
1.1500 years before Jesus was born they were expelled from Egypt by force. The ones who managed to stay alive came to Israel.
2.In Israel they had wars all the time against the Philistines(now Palestinians) and every other folk in the region
3.The Babylonians slaughtered them and radically expelled them from Israel
4.The Greeks who became governors of them after the collapse of Persian Empire performed some massive killings of Jews when there was revolution
5.The Romans crushed them totally, slaughtered every person who resisted and their families and expelled them again from Israel to every possible place
6.When Greeks revolted in Alexandria against the Roman Empire(1 million people),they killed every Jew living in Alexandria before the roman army came
7.In Middle Age Jews were expelled, exiled and slaughetered many times in almost every country
8.They were expelled from Prague by Czechs 3 times
9.They were discriminated and persecuted in Russia
10.Hitler decided to exterminate them.Almost every european police was happy to help the german occupators to find the Jews and send them to concentration camps. Many times they actively helped in the gathering and extermination of Jews(especially in Baltic States)

11.Stalin decided after the war to start pogrom against Jews again.
12.Arabs never accepted jewish presence among them. They try to get rid of them any way possible.

So there seems to be a long time hatred towards Jews which has not to do with Christians only.In fact it has started by the time Jews appeared in history. The egyptian pharaos were the first to do massive pogrom and cleansing of Jews.

The reasonable question is maybe is there someting in jewish people's attitude that causes so much hatred and harshness towards them?

I have noticed a great deal of sympathy of Jews when they write in this forum about polish people. Can this love be objective or maybe can it lead to some prejudice in favour of Poles?
