How do Polish farmers slaughter farm animals in Poland? I mean lamb, pig, or goat. Is it using a knife or an electronic device (what kind)?

Regards pigs . . .In my experience back of an axe is used at first, the idea is to get it right between the eyes to stun it. The first time I saw it, it didn't quite connect properly so 4-5 attempts were required. Then its knifed in the juglar (whilst being held down by 2-3 others) and the blood drains out. The whole process takes 3-4minutes. Not a pretty sight at all.

i really didnt want to know the gory details but lucinda did ask .... saying that as a child i was regularly taken to the Cattle market on a weekend here in Doncaster by my gran and would know what was happening to some of the animals esp when headless chickens went amock or a psychotic pig went on rampage after being darted in the brain ...

electronically here in the UK not sure if same in Poland but it is first an electric shock to stun the animal used to then be a gun fires a steel bolt into head .. now though its just the electric shock and neck sliced opened whilst the animal hangs over a bucket to collect what obviously falls out the strung up animal .... !

note to self i think i gave a graphic description than scarbyirp :S

Thanks for your reply. Yes I think electronic way is better and less painful for the animals. It should be used in Poland too.

In Poland the animal has the right to chose between electricity, hanging and lethal injection.

Animals having the right to choose sounds like a Larson cartoon. Unfortunately I cant resize the pic, or delete it thru an edit.

I never saw nor wanted to see how they kill animals, but I lived in the countryside by Krakow and everybody would kill their own animals. I heard they would hang pigs by their hind legs and do things to kill it, you could sometimes hear the pigs squeeling all over the wieÅ›. Chickens they would use an axe to chop off heads. Could never watch it, but our 70 year neighbor thought nothing of it. I was sick when she wanted our white leghorn rooster because we had 3 and she wanted one for her hens, so my dad gave her my pet rooster. Couple days later I found his head in the bushes.

Rabbits they would hang upside down and beat it with a stick till it dies.
I don't believe in killing animals.

a fellow vegetarian krysia?

I have my own zoo, where all of my animals are vegetarians, except for the geicko, who eats maggots, but those are so ugly he's doing everyone a favor.
