Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

IndianPolishGurl,

I thought it was 'Aap Kaise Hay' Now I know why people didn't understand me.

Actually, they are the only words I know.

UK, Ireland / TELL US WHAT YOU LIKE/DISLIKE IN UK [51]

Frank,

It's true that London is too congested, and many other cities in the UK. I think it's an easier life in the south-west or north-east of England.

Frank,

I'm sure that you've realized by now that many of these threads go off topic. However, mixer taps are on topic.

But don't worry as I think they've run their course.

What do you like/dislike in the UK ?

This is not a dig at anyone. It's just a thought.

They have used mixer taps in England as long as they have used them in Poland. We have a new bathroom suite [here in Poland] The wash basin has separate hot and cold taps.

Even some mixer taps are set by turning hot and cold taps which are fitted to the side of the appliance. Water doesn't just come out at the right temperature.

Of course we have hot and cold taps. It's just that many people in Poland have mixer taps.

It's become a cliche for pissed off Poles to say to anyone from the UK. Why do you have two taps ? It's a sort of put down.

Feedback / Fab Forum [18]

ola123,

I wouldn't say that English is easy to learn. It might not be that difficult for some people, but to become proficient can take years. Think how long it takes for pupils to get ready for the Matura.

English became international for various reasons. None of them are because it's easy.

Food / is" kaszanka" a Polish speciality? [54]

Black Pudding is everything you wouldn't touch with a stick. But served with fried onions I can only quote Shelley 'yummmy'

Food / Sausage. YEAH BABY!!! - translation and food [14]

The problem with Polish sausage is what to do with it. In England they fry or grill their sausage. Here in Poland an Englishman might turn his nose up at a sausage that has just been boiled or is eaten cold. Part of the problem is what to expect when offered sausage. From the English point of view are you expecting something like salami or a typical 'banger' ?

For me a Polish sausage is neither of these.

Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

Kowalski,

I forgot the ice-rink. It is a good idea and it's still there every Christmas.

For those who don't know. It is a temporary construction, placed in the town square every winter.

Sudheer,

It's great that you're getting out and about in Wroclaw. I've read your post on the other thread and I can see that you have a busy nightlife.

In winter Rynek takes on a different appearance with Christmas lights and snow, and of course there are no tables and chairs outside bars.

Anyway, you've now got me in the mood to go out. It's about time I started showing my face again.

Shelley,

Say this quickly as one word: Vrot-suave.

I'm sorry but I can't help with bars. I'm a stay at home person. I will ask around the family and let you know soon.

There is another forum member from Wroclaw you could ask. But I can't remember who !!

And of course you could ask Sadheer who is in Wroclaw.

Sorry, I'm not much help.

Edit.

Sorry. Sudheer

England must be the only place in the world that has rain and a drought at the same time.

I thought some pubs now had the option to stay open for longer. Is that not the case ?

Sudheer,

Welcome to Wroclaw. It's a nice place to be, but it's not without its problems. For example the constant roadworks drive me crazy at times.

Have you seen the sights ? What is your opinion ?

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland - integration? [41]

Parsien,

The only problem with Cato's letter is the lack of capital letters in the name of the paper. [an unimportant typo]

However, with your posts the list goes on and on.

Don't try and be clever. Some of us know more than you think you know.

Yet, we all make mistakes sometimes.

Oh, look!

I got your name wrong, Parisien. See, it happens sometimes.

Work / Finding work in Poland as an Englishman [11]

You might make money as a translator, but your Polish had better be up to scratch.
Even then most firms would only take you on on a part time basis.

Also, why would a company pay more just because you are English.

Food / Frozen Food in Poland [13]

The microwave gets used every day in this house.
The problem is that we don't have enough products that can go directly into the microwave. This means the microwave is used for re-heating not cooking

Lots of frozen food here but I haven't noticed any frozen meals. That's if you mean meat and two veg in a plastic or metal tray.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

em,

I've found that when Polish people are speaking in English they are not aware of words and phrases that are 'politically correct'. This means that they might sound offensive, but they are only using the language they know.

If it is people speaking in Polish I don't know what is going on. I've never noticed that many 'agressive views'.

As for this site: Because you don't have to sign-in and there is no Moderator some people use it to wind up others. Small minded people with nothing better to do.
