History / Another WWII thread. [69]

and don't ask us to thank you for declaring war against Germany

But you are aware that the war most likely would've ended in 1940 if Britain wouldn't have declared war on Germany? And we wouldn't call it WW2 either nowadays, I guess.

Life / Foreigner singing the Polish National Anthem :) [40]

Lukasz, you are far too obsessed with this whole thing, really. Shouldn't you be outside playing football with your friends instead? And why do you use two different nicks (polandowns/ ftggoP)?

UK, Ireland / "Polish ambassador warns - think twice about coming to Britain for work " [126]

There is no way of finding out with open borders

That's true, but some numbers I found for Ireland state for example that about 1/3 of all Poles are expected to go home this year. I was just wondering what would happen to the Polish job market if more than 2 million people decide to go back to Poland.

Life / Help required obtaining Polish Passport for Granny [10]

he automatically lost Polish citizenship

Just wondering: there was no Poland when her father arrived in 1870. How could his daughter renounce a right to a citizenship (Polish in this case) that didn't exist in the first place?

News / Gazeta Wyborcza: US Backing Off Polish Missile Bases [40]

...coming to Poland and setting of a dirty nuke in Warsaw metro.

It was all about selling weapons and making profit anyway. I still wonder why they let Bin Laden escape although they had him and his ilk cornered.

I'm still amazed as to why we're staying there?

I don't understand either. It's just a big waste of precious lifes and money.

News / Gazeta Wyborcza: US Backing Off Polish Missile Bases [40]

We should just pull out

You should, because if you don't you might end up being the last one to fight in Afghanistan. There was an article in the newspaper this morning that the Germans are planning to move out.

Old Europe can collectively kiss our asses

But Old Europe's money comes in handy, doesn't it? :)

News / WAŁĘSA TO AGITATE FOR LISBON IN EIRE [19]

By the economic reality of the situation

Poland was broke and needed money, right... :)

Poland has far too few votes considering its crucial position among the Eastern European states and the fact that it appears to be the only EU state grasping the true niuances of Russias politics

Well, let's change the name European Union into "Polish Union" then. I'm astonished BTW that you call Poland an eastern European country. I thought that's a no-no.

News / WAŁĘSA TO AGITATE FOR LISBON IN EIRE [19]

yes we were forced to join

Is that a joke? By whom? Maybe by your own people.

so we need to hog more power

Poland has far too many votes considering how many citizens the country has and how weak its economy still is.

For records older than 100 years the state archives are responsible, for all others you have to contact the local civil registration offices. Yours is

I don't know if this address is still valid. Just check it online.

News / What needs to happen in the world so that Poland and Russia form alliance? [297]

Many Poles tell me that they prefer to be with Russians than Germans

I'd love to see the reaction of Poles, especially older ones, if I went round with a petition asking them if they'd like to see a full alliance with Russia. More than a few expletives would come out

What is it then - hug the Russians or spit on them? You contradict yourself.

PennBoy

The only question you have to ask yourself is: do you want Poland to be (mis)judged the same way you (mis)judge Germany? If the answer is NO then I would suggest you do some thinking.

I think the British and the Germans are very much alike.

I agree with you, although I know that I will get stoned and quartered for that very soon.

News / What needs to happen in the world so that Poland and Russia form alliance? [297]

AUSTRALIAN thats the key word here

No, the keyword is 'foreigner'. As a foreigner I was always treated well, and your fellow countrymen seem to share this experience with me.

that is how they are

Who THEY? One German speaking flight attendant was joking on your expense and some people laughed, so all Germans are "evil"? That's why you consider yourself being anti-German? Get lost, man.

Besides: your story is so unusual that it is almost unbelievable. Are you sure you didn't make it up just to "prove" your point?

News / What needs to happen in the world so that Poland and Russia form alliance? [297]

How could you know what happens to a Pole in Germany how he's treated if you're not one

Very simple: I am Australian and lived in Germany for a few years. No probs whatsoever, people there were very open-minded towards foreigners, and they were almost always nice and friendly. I simply cannot confirm what you are saying.

News / What needs to happen in the world so that Poland and Russia form alliance? [297]

Even though of what happened in the past i did put that aside

I don't believe you, man. You're probably in your 20's and you show prejudices one would expect from people who actually participated in WW2. That doesn't go together at all.

as soon as they found out i'm Polish they either looked at me like they wanted to kill me

Have you been attending a Neonazi meeting or what? What you describe is such a crude generalization that I seriously doubt that you have ever met a single German.

People moved on, get used to it. You seem to be stuck somewhen in the 1930's - I feel sorry for you.
