Wałęsa is going to Ireland to agitate for the Lisbon Treaty which drastically slashes Poland's voting power in the EU. How do you think the vote will go? How do you think the vote should go?

Lech Walesa said he would go to Ireland to support the campaign supporters of the Lisbon Treaty before the referendum on October 2nd , because he believes that this treaty must be accepted , and then change it. - Is there a better driver than nothing - justifies .

The fact that Walesa will travel to Ireland, said the head of the Polish delegation in the Group of the European People's Party , PO MEP Jacek Saryusz -Wolski . Still did not set a specific date for this visit , probably comes to her in the next week (Thursday - Friday) or the next .

Drastically slashes Poland's voting power? How so? They (the Irish) have been given sweeteners with Protocols attached but I feel that the reasons they voted no in the first place still remain. Expect another no vote.

The Nice Treaty now in force giver Poladn 27 votes as compared with 29 for Germany, hence it is very advantageous to Poles. Probably it was constrcuted that way to lure Poland into ther EU. The Lisbon Treaty mroe closely reflects population, hence Poland has far fewer votes than Germany.

To lure Poland into the EU? You make it sound like PL didn't want to join, but that the EU forced her to do so. As far as I know, nobody forced her to join, she was very keen to join in the first place and we all know the reason why. Her good right, let that be understood, but you shouldn't imply that Poland is in the EU against her will. The EU has brought many advantages for Poland.

Poles werent initially all that pro European and yes we were forced to join (that is not to say we didnt want in but we werent all whoop about it as well).


Absolutely and i would be OK with the Lisbon treaty but Germany France and UK have proven that they (as historically) do not understand Russia so we need to hog more power so we can stop the West from f*cking up again and we'd be the first ones to feel the results too.

Poland has far too many votes considering how many citizens the country has and how weak its economy still is.

As Leo Varadkar(TD) of Fine Gael said, "its all about immigration, it is the elephant in the room".

PS There is no such country as Eire. It is known as the Repbublic of Ireland. Ireland for short.

Especially if he is there for personal reasons or on behalf of Poland. Leave voting alone. You see what happened in Afghanistan and Iran, unwanted outside involvement.

Yes those poor Irish - nothing but trouble they got from the EU. They were doing so well on their own and every since they joined the EU, it has gone downhill for them.

Edit: BUT in a way I have to agree with RN as well: the enormous flood of luckseekers from especially Poland has been outright ridiculous. I have nothing against them coming, but it does look weird that thousands enter in one week. And it also looks weird that it started literally the day they joined the EU. In a way I can understand his fear - it is frightening, but it's just a matter of getting used to. We had centuries time to get used to it, they had only 5 years so far.
