News / Donald Tusk - Polish Prime Minister's Expose [13]

What do you think about today's expose of the new Polish Prime Minister - Donald Tusk? I didn't watch it but they say it was very long - 3 hrs or so...

Life / Polish Websites, similar to onet [11]

Yes, I forgot about these above (even though they aren't that popular and don't update their news as fast as the others).

Life / Polish Websites, similar to onet [11]

Merged: Most popular Polish portals (online news/newspapers)

I read daily online Polish newspapers and portals/news. I think these are currently the biggest/most popular ones in Poland:

- onet.pl
- gazeta.pl
- wp.pl
- interia.pl

Which of these do you read mostly and why? I think gazeta.pl has best articles; onet.pl is more social-oriented and don't have a lot of in-house articles; wp.pl and interia.pl aren't too serious either. Anything else?

Law / Raiffeisen Bank in Poland [10]

Having a backup of some banking institutions I don't see how it wouldn't operate legitimately. They have website in Polish and English at raiffeisen.pl.

Life / what tyres is best to use in POLAND?? [10]

In winter user winter tyres, in other seasons use summer tyres. In Poland roads in winter may be slippery (not enough snow services).

Real Estate / Have you bought a house in rural Poland? [5]

So you are in a very good position to buy a Polish land - you don't have to wait several years or rent-to-own it. Make sure what you want to do on the land and if you have money buy your dream land.

Love / I'm pregnant of a polish guy [90]

I have been very closely involved in losing this precious life

So you and Lucynda have the same opinion on the fact that life is precious. I agree with you both. Argumentations why life is precious aren't that important, the fact that it's precious counts. So no need to fight about that.

My comments were a response to his "suggestion".

Love / I'm pregnant of a polish guy [90]

It doesn't take a math scientist to know because she wrote:

I'm a Spanish girl who met last summer a sweet(at that time I thought so) Polish guy in Galway( Ireland). We had sex, and when I came back to Spain, we kept in touch, through sms, e-mail, phone, messenger...

She is from Spain (not Africa or another poor country). Do you think a person who can afford to go to vacation abroad (possibly not for the first time), has cell phone, computer etc. cannot feed herself and her child?

Love / I'm pregnant of a polish guy [90]

wtf is even that
u have NO idea about his parents and their situation. damn, i hate such dumb comments. i swear
plus its not funny... obvioulsy u wanted to be

If you suggest they would be unable to feed the child, you may be right. But we don't live in XV century anymore (nor in poor country of Africa in this case). What other "situation" do you mean? That they will only be able to afford a FIAT instead of BMW because they have a child?

I give practical advice. My parents were married. If she is not able to support the child, she will hear a lot like abortion has a lot of complications etc which is not true in first trimester.

What do you mean by "support a child"? Do you know that the government is actually helpful if you don't have enough money to buy food for the child? Or you mean it's not possible to "support a child" just because you cannot buy them the newest version of a computer or a mini car?

Real Estate / Have you bought a house in rural Poland? [5]

Being Polish, I haven't bought one, but I used to live in a rural area of Poland. Are you sure you can buy land in Poland? Unless it includes housing and has enough land to qualify as "farming land." Are you going to just live there or do some farming stuff?

Travel / Age requirements when going out to clubs in Poland [13]

You must be at least 18 years old. An Australian photo ID (on a plastic card, not paper) should get you to any club in Poland. If you also have your old passport with you, you don't really need to worry.

I think it's called "Średniowiecze" in Polish (or The Polish Medieval Times in English). Here is some nice video:

Life / Who's thinking of moving to Poland? [67]

I think most of those who move to Poland do so temporarily only. But the reasons you mention are valid.

I think point c) will be more important, especially for people from the Eastern Europe and poorer countries of Asia.

Law / Organised Crime - Mafia Business in Poland [21]

You're trying to be funny ?

No, but sometimes I think you have never been abroad and only know other countries from articles. Go to a store (even the biggest and most expensive) in the US and you won't notice a guard starring at you as if you wanted to steal something.

Law / Organised Crime - Mafia Business in Poland [21]

BS? Then what can you say about guard companies that have sprung like mushrooms in Poland? Some if not most of them were established by the former milicja officers. Some of them even blackmail the owners if they don't want to renew their services...

I think it's a Polish sensation on the world's scale that there are so many guards seen in businesses or stores (not to mention banks). Go to an expensive store in a city downtown and you are likely to be invited by a guard... One private guard or more per one store or city business location is weird...

Real Estate / A holiday home rental property in Poland - good investment? [11]

Free market research? :) Well, I personally don't have one and think Poland is sort of limited by the weather conditions - only a few months are great weather-wise. But if I wanted to buy something, I would prefer the areas where the nature is still alive like Eeast of Poland.

Law / Organised Crime - Mafia Business in Poland [21]

Organized mafia that harass Polish businesses is a BIG problem in Poland. It seems the businesses in the best locations (like shopping stores, currency exchanges, all kinds of agencies, even law offices) are prone to mafia and are expected to pay a fee to be "protected" by them. Sometimes even legal companies force the company owners to pay them to be "protected" - if they don't, they may have their business arsoned or even worse.

The Polish police must do something about that - but the problem is that the police is said to be corrupted too.

News / BRAIN DRAIN ON POLAND [101]

As I'm in charge of 10 Polish workers, tomorrow I shall randomly (don't want to appear to be prejudice) pick one of them out and make their day as miserable as possible.

I don't understand - you hire Polish workers, so you must benefit from that (unless your management and managers are silly enough to hire them and they lose money because hiring them). Perhaps you should make your point and put your money where your mouth is - and fire them all and hire only native British citizens? Now you feed the Polish workers and their Polish families instead of British workers and you still complain about that - why is that? You are the manager, you set the rules, or not?

USA, Canada / VISA TRAVEL TO USA [32]

what about Polish people who live in the UK going to the USA for a holiday?

It doesn't make a difference as they would still have to apply in Poland (unless they are British citizens)..

Yes, Canada should be easier. In a few months it's likely Poles won't need any visa to Canada - as from this thread.
