UK, Ireland / British taxpayers pay homeless Polish to go home. [184]

I know polish people drive wages down, They also take out £1 billion of the uks economy and send it to poland, I wish they would all f*ck off.

Your cognative abilities fall short in understanding basic economic principles. Principles that, if applied without bias, would ultimately prove immigration to be beneficial to the UK economy.

UK, Ireland / Unemployed due to Polish who work in the UK [126]

I may sound a bit dramatic, but you can be as clinical as you like and boast the facts but the reality was very harsh and very different.

Economics is not governed by morality. Markets react to data and industries are born and die because of their economic competiveness. Governments can only delay, at tremendous cost to future generations, the inevitable. Reality is harsh and those that trade in it have a responsibility to all. Some understand and have the guts to force competiveness that ultimately saves jobs. Competiveness that in the long term creates financial discipline that attracts investment in new start up industries. Others seek to lie and manipulate market forces for short term political gain.

This is a natural process in highly developed countries! Thatcher forced change on industries that were costing the British tax payer billions of pounds. Socialist economics is dead.! Funding industries that are uncompetitive on the world stage is a road to economic destruction for future generations. The children of steel workers, miners and dockers have been given access to other opportunities that their parents could only dream of.

The government gets total power over the people.

Thatcherism created an enviroment that transfered power from the collective back to the individual. Markets regained the possibility of setting prices in relation to supply and demand and not government policy dominate by union influence. Union influence that prior to Thatcherism had no regard for market competiveness or the long term financial health of the country.

The danger of all this is, of course, that it is becoming a modern form of Thatcherism via the back door.

Thatcherism enabled the UK to regain economic competiveness and set the stage for unprecedented growth.

Competition is one thing, but being priced out of work is another, maybe if your industry had the same thing going on, you might have a different opinion. Im all for a decent days pay for a decent days work.

Lack of competition leads, in the long term, to poverty for all!

THe same thing has happened in ireland. Foreign workers have undermined many of the hard won rights of irish workers and trade unions (especially in the building trade) by agreeing to work for sh1t wages. Irish labourers were getting 13.50 an hour, basic wage, until polish workers came on the sites and agreed to work for 9 euros(with no overtime rate!). I have a polish friend who went to work on a site and was told this was the new rate. He took the job but within a month he and other polish workers lost their jobs to Latvian workers who agreed to work for 7 euros an hour.

Irish building workers have had the luxury of lack of competition for too long! Rates were far too high and productivity was extremely low. Competition was badly needed and long awaited.

I just asked didn't I....

It's the same as far as Europe is concerned. You did ask but your intention was closer contact with Ola and not the real issue. Europe's intention is closer cooperation with Russia based on self interest. Poland's opinion, whether valued or not , is of no interest to old Europe.

Bratwurst boy,

The conversation above represents Poland and Europe. As we can see you are not at all interested in an exchange of views. Your main focus of attention is to chat up Ola. This, in fact, is very similar to Europe and Russia. Poland is just a boring side issue!

Poles are only so aggravated and furious because they now can't no longer held up the hand and demand millions of good money just for owning the land for the pipeline...pure greed!

Of couse, the German press wouldn't have it any other way. The real issues must be avoided at all cost!

Germans trust Russians more than Poles speaks for itself...

Exactly. Germany trusts a Mafia State over a European partner!

Poland if they make your country ridiculous

This is what the western press seeks to do in order to avoid the real issues. If something becomes to difficult rubbish the problem.

Don't you think your gov should be more concerned with your own politics???

This concerns gas supply. which is absolutely vital to the whole of European Politics. Why can't Germans deal with it!

The west is responsible for communist criminals been taking seriously on the international stage. A mistake, once again, repeated as far as the Chinese are concerned.

Where are the standards!

Instead of swiftly adopting Western standards of democracy and tolerance

He got sacked johan...and it's a while!

It hasn't been dealt with! The twins are dealing with our **** and not brushing it under the carpet.

Polish politics has been filled with grating talk about religion and nationalism.

As far as the western press is concerned the above issues are the focal point. Why? Because the west will not deal with the real issues: Russian Mafia State/ Former communists criminal legitimise by western powers.

The twins are now looking for excuses. They see dark, secret powers at work everywhere: old communist networks,

If these individuals feel that their cooperation was justified and that the information given by them was not detrimental to others. Why should it be a secret? If I worked or lived a long side a communist party informer I have every right to know who the person was and what information was given to the authorities about my person.

As far as any legal proceedings are concerned, those guilty of nothing more than membership of the communist party have nothing to fear. They should ,in fact, be more than willing to open all the files in order to prove their innocence.

In order for Poland to move forward people, whose families and lives were destroyed by the former system, have the right to demand justice. The current confusion is a direct result of not bringing certain individuals to justice. Former high ranking party officials are now honourable members of the upper classes of Polish society. They had the financial capabilities to reposition themselves in free market Poland. Many of their children were educated at western universities. They themselves travelled abroad extensively, had access to foreign currencies and shopped in Pevex's shops. They will also be entitled to very handsome pensions.

These are the very same individuals today that seek to confuse and disinform Polish society about who cooperated. They were also the same individuals who changed, created ,rewrote and destroyed numerous numbers of secret police files prior to the election of this government. Poles have the right to know who they were and how they cooperated. They also have the right to demand compensation from the guilty.

What's more some European powers have little interest in clarifying any of the above for reasons that will be become known in the history books our grandchildren will read. I am afraid very few people in the west can begin to understand or comprehend what has happened. They should, however, consider their own history and decision making processes before lecturing Poles about how to treat former communist criminals. They should first explain the reasons behind the decisions taken after the second world war. The reasons behind " Yalta". The reasons behind the recognition of the illegal Polish government (put in place by Moscow) after the second war world.

The very same reasons today are being used to justify the EU's close cooperation with Russia. A Russia infiltrated with former KGB agents in all areas of economic and political life. A Russia who rewards cooperation with riches and punishes dissent with murder.

A persistent stance against corruption is the sine qua non for energy security. Russia’s Gazprom cannot be a partner to Europe while it fails to invest in its own infrastructure, arranges the deportation of responsible lobbyists for corporate governance, invests 14 billion dollars in non-core assets, such as news media, and is run from the Office of the Presidential Administration of Russia.

The Yukos Affair would never have reached an expropriatory crescendo without the silence, if not active support, of the German banking and political elite. Their main concern, as the Yukos Affair unfolded, was how Germany and its banks could profit from state theft. This moral disengagement was not only dangerous for Russia but also for the strength of democratic principles in Germany. Surely German citizens are aware that the support by Chancellor Schroeder of a regime that closes the press, attacks NGOs, expropriates property in show trials and targets ethnic minorities is simply inconsistent with the German idea and that of Europe.

Schröder was a populistic nut, an embarassment!

Schroder should be sitting in a prison cell !

I'm a German and a Western European...we all detest them!

Based on what! Your understanding of how your media presents them.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

Hmmm, I find the explanation of complicated or unexpected points of grammar in a foreign language to be counter-productive, especially to less advanced learners.

Why on earth would you want to teach " complicated or unexpected points of grammar" to less advanced learners! There is no reason to move from the target language in order to explain something.
