Life / How often do you think Poles smile :) [58]

If they want to smile, but what does it matter...is the point. If someone doesn't smile, why does someone always say "SMILE" as if the sky will fall if said person doesn't smile right then and there. What is so important about smiling. People don't care if the smile is meaningless or fake, so long as it's there. People need to get over their smile addictions. A smile can mean nothing. Someone can absolutely hate you and look at you with the biggest, cheesiest grin. It's sickening. I'd rather them give me a dirty look and let me see their true colors.

Life / How often do you think Poles smile :) [58]

People might be too busy thinking about other things or concentrating on what they need to do, Seanus. Smiling would be a distraction. The smiling culture is an insincere one, anyway. Sometimes, there's no reason to smile. It might seem like an "icebreaker", but it's really nothing more than a pretense, a needless social convention. If people wouldn't jump to conclusions about why someone doesn't smile, there would be less hard feelings. Used to be looking serious in photos gave one credibility and smiling an indication of insanity.

Life / How often do you think Poles smile :) [58]

Smiling is not that big a deal anyway. I don't really want to smile at people, but I do anyway because they tend to be intimidated if I don't. People put way too much into smiling. I am too serious a person to smile all the time like an imbecile, but constantly have to dumb down to the "everyman" just to get by.

You people freaking out over Poles not smiling why not do some self reflection and ask yourself why a smile is so important anyway? Does an earthquake happen just because someone doesn't smile? Just because someone doesn't is not a sure indication they mean you harm. Maybe you should get to know the person, first, and then they will smile at you? Gives you a chance to make more friends than if everyone flashed an insincere grin.

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

Simple? Sure, except for one small fact - I didn't drive in Chicago (I didn't even own a car there). You continue to make blanket statements about my American lifestyle without knowing a damned thing about me - that strikes me as rather foolish.

What's even more foolish is your connection between obesity and artificial ingredients (like dyes) and hormones. Where is the proof those two things are connected? There's plenty of proof obesity is caused by poor nutrition, inadequate exercise and too much of the wrong kinds of food. High fructose corn syrup and the like. How do we know junk food in Poland isn't held up to higher standards by consumer groups, ie; it's made with more nutritional ingredients because Europeans are more demanding about good nutrition?

News / Poland Rejects US Missile Shield (talks will continue...) [80]

The US is trying to appease Russia, in this case, by keeping the missile shield out of Eastern Europe. It's better than going against the Bear and putting it there anyway. That could cause all kinds of problems for Eastern Europe. It would be a disaster. This is the only option since Russia is so close. Why alienate them so they might pull something?

If the US didn't care the govt would say, "to hell with it, that shield will go where we damn well want it", regardless of consequences. Obama is on the television talking about the Missile shield now...

If I am such a lazy Americano who imbibes only processed foods and sodas, then shouldn't I stay at about the same weight wherever I live? All that crap is available in Poland - why aren't I the same weight here, PP? I've counted at least a dozen McDonald's in Kraków...the store aisles here are full of chips, cookies, and Coca Cola...yet I somehow manage to live a healthier life here without a significantly altered lifestyle.

I weigh less when I live in Europe than I do when I live in America - it's a fact, and it has happened twice. Comment on that, why not? And please reread the part of my previous post where I mentioned walking 5-7 km a day every day over the past 8 years before pontificating about exercise...

You walk more in Poland than you realize because it's a new place and you are motivated to go out and see more of it. Your activity level increased and you don't drive everywhere, hence your weigh less and are in better physical shape. Simple.

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

Being one of the 'lard-ass' Americans on this site, I'll throw in my two cents: my impression is that American society is fat primarily because the meat suppliers taint their products with growth hormones, antibiotics, and the like. Also, obesity rates began to spike at roughly the same time that soft drink companies introduced high-fructose corn syrup to their products (cheaper than sugar). Fast foot, sedentary lifestyles, and bad eating habits all contribute, of course - but when when chemicals and other artificial ingredients are introduced in the food supply, it makes sense that they could very well affect the humans who ingest them.

Lol, you think artificial ingredients and hormones make people fat? I don't know for sure if they are completely harmless, but, what, exactly, is their connection with obesity? Another Americano wants to blame hormones and red dye number 3 for laziness and poor nutrition. In order to move you need nutritous foods. Nutritious foods are raw fruits and veggies and whole grains. If you are eating beef on buns made from refined flour you aren't getting many vitamins or fiber. What you are consuming is a bunch of junk that requires a lot from your body to process. Your body goes thru a lot to use it, but doesn't get much from it. This is what causes your lack of energy. When you have poor nutrition, you don't want to move as much so you sit around more. It can make you feel pretty lousy. You sit around feeling like crap. You don't want to do physical activity because you feel sluggish and lethargic. You start putting on the pounds. How you reverse it is you start eating leafy salads everyday, no red meat and substitute whole grains for anything you eat that's refined or overprocessed. Stop eating frozen dinners. They aren't that nutritious, either, and they have too much sodium. Drink 100 % fruit juice instead of soda and lots of water. Start paying attention to the nutritional content of what you consume. Take a multivitamin. You will feel like doing a lot more and when you do, you will lose weight and maintain the perfect body size for you. It's easy to blame it on dyes and hormones but they are just excuses for being obese.

If Polish food is so fattening...how come Polish people don,t look like Americans...? sorry , no offence meant to any lard assed Americans on the forum....!

Because it's not as bad as American food. People still eat some whole grains and veggies with it and not too much beef. Pork is healthier than beef. Beef is the worst thing you can eat.

Americans not only are omitting veggies when they eat hamburgers and greasy french fries, they are leaving them out when they cook meals at home. Every American needs a fresh salad a day with plenty of chopped spinach and Romain lettuce. Put some vinegar and olive oil on it, and a splash of lemon juice. Once you start having one a day, it'll be like eating junk food. You'll be so used to it, you won't want to go a day without one.

Some countries around the world are following our bad example, like Japan. They should stick to sea food, it's much better than beef. Salmon filets are much better than hamburgers.

Some of them collect Jemimas and no one complains about the pancake mix, the syrup or the pancake/sausage frozen dinners. Why would negros be offended by a Jemima? It'

s just an obese black woman with her hair in a bandana fixing food.

USA, Canada / How to find a job in the USA [39]

The best way to get a job here is in person, as for a teaching career theres alot of competition.

Not always.

Kasia, the best way to find out is do some investigating over the internet. Not all places were hit equally hard by the recession. Some places have higher unemployment, thus, more competition. Some places are barely affected, but they might not be places you wish to live.

Another thing, Kasia, check websites for corporations. Sometimes they have an "internship" catagory you can click on and find out more about the internships they offer. It depends on what kind of internship you are looking for. Best thing to do is visit the websites of places you are interested in and send emails.

They prefer to, but there's not enough people who want to teach. The Europeans like to teach and make better teachers than the Americanos. I think she could do it.

USA, Canada / How to find a job in the USA [39]

How is the easiest way to find a job in the states?? I'm student, 23yrs old, with bachelor degree in political sciences/economics and want to go go to the states for work (or intership). Anyone who has experience of that, and how did you do to find your job?? or your intership??

You could probably find a job as a teacher if your English is good. There's always someplace in the US that has a shortage.

Pick a state you want to live in, look up the towns online, and google their school district. I'll pick Brooklyn, NY as an arbitrary location. Google Brooklyn, NY, School District and see what you get. There might be a job listing on the website. You can contact places such as these, sending your resume.

Another tip: online newspapers in the states. Look and see if they publish their classified ads online. Sometimes, the classifieds have job listings, and you can look for an online newspaper that's in a town/state you want to live. There's Monster.com. You can try googling jobs/United States and see what Google has. The internet is a wonderful job search resource. All you have to do is write an email and copy your resume and click "send". Good luck!

History / US snubs Poland over WW II ceremony? [75]

There's all this talk about how Eastern Europe should do more to befriend immediate neighbors, like Germany and Russia and not kiss America's ass. This sounds like Eastern Europe is doing what the people want. The top officials were from Germany, Russia, and Italy. Why would anyone complain? They are just satisfying the public by not kissing the US's ass. This proves the US isn't as big a player as people think so you can stop saying the world kisses the USA's butt all the time. Peace and Thanks!

They are talking about mobile interceptors now in order to not anger the big bear.

See how everyone kisses America's ass and bends to our will? Hah! What lies and this proves it!

Love / Polish Girls Reputation [231]

There's always some people who claim they want that but they are deluding themselves. It's nearly impossible to make ends meet without two people working which is why women work. Maybe some would rather stay home and let their husband do everything but how would the bills get paid? Before men start picking on working women they need to do a reality check and ask themselves if they can afford to actually support an entire family on their own and if they can, do they really want to?

American society stinks like any other and youre deluding yourself if you think otherwise

Well, regardless of Hollywood portrayal America is not some utopia where everyone does what they want. The larger cities can be more liberal, but, for the most part, it's strict and laws are enforced.

So american society doesnt have a problem with underage sex and girls jumping in and out of bed?..is this not what Hollwood is built on?

Americans are into the boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife thing these days. So called "family values", at least on paper.
I don't know about Hollywood, but, underage sex is discouraged over here and cases where one person is underage and another considerably older are taken very seriously. Many a person has landed in jail over it.

News / Exploitation of Poles working abroad [30]

My relative's advice(who happened to be a lawyer) was that the girls should tell some friends of them to pay a visit and give the employer a serious beat.I guess it would be easy if the girls were russian but in the case of polish girls there are usually no such connections.

In that case, young Poles should create communication networks before going to unfamiliar places. They can do this via the internet. A site like Polish Forums is a good example. They could visit a site hosted in the country they will be working and start a thread asking for Poles in the area and find out more information this way. They can make some friends before they go and find out if a place is legitimate and other ways to keep from getting ripped off.

UK, Ireland / Poland Flying the Flag at Gay Pride in Manchester [75]

All homosexuals want to adopt children, really?

Not all, but gay advocates want homosexuals to have the same rights as heterosexuals: getting married in a church, adopting children, raising their own kids with their partners, whichever they choose, just like heterosexuals. That's the goal. You are either for it (meaning it's okay with you if a priest of minister marries them in your local church and the nice gay couple is raising newly adopted twins) or you're against it and if you're against it you could be called "homophobic" just for being against that. It means you have a fear of homosexuals, and they shouldn't be allowed to marry and if you say they shouldn't be allowed to adopt kids what you are really saying is they aren't good enough to raise families (their own kids, either) because adopting kids means being allowed to raise them.

Even if you know gays who aren't for this, advocates representing the gay community as a whole are pushing these agendas.

Life / Wedding in Poland - my experience [39]

BUT SHE NEVER TOLD US THAT IT WOULD LOOK SOOOO ARTIFICIAL! SHE GAVE US WHITE ROSES SPRAYED WITH PAINT! REAL PAINT!

Wow. I didn't know you could spray paint real flowers without them falling apart or wilting. Sounds cool except for the smell. It would be neat to try it. I wonder how long they lasted? I've seen fake roses with glitter sprayed on them.

You dont see many normal men and women groping themselves and making out in public,,,,do you?

Yes.

According to homosexuals, if you deny people like Rosie Odonnell and Ellen Degenerous adopting kids just because of their orientation, you are a homophobe. That's their definiton of it. They want the right to marry and adopt kids, not just people turning the other cheek to what goes on inside their homes. It's far more complicated than just that!

They want to be recognized as a legitimate lifestyle choice with same rights as heterosexual couples. Rights of all kinds, not just right to privacy. So, I am sure many of you on this thread claiming to be tolerant of homosexuality disagree with this. Homosexuals would call you homophobic if you did.

News / Gazeta Wyborcza: US Backing Off Polish Missile Bases [40]

I agree that Poland should make friends with immediate neighbors like Russia. The missile project is just delayed until after they resolve differences. The missile base wasn't proposed because of the Russians, anyway.

Poland is not the US's lapdog. Whoever is saying that is clearly clueless about international politics.
Obama adminstration is dodging the limelight, letting the Russians have all the attention, because it's true, they did more fighting in WWII and had more casualties so why shouldn't they take center stage?

People are turning this into a big drama but it's isn't.
