Life / Polish people start families at early age-how true is this? [20]

is 31 and she feels in poland she will have difficulty finding a polish guy as she says she is considered "old"

I always hear my family say things like this. Here in canada the average age of marriage is somewhere around 30-32 (i read it in the paper some time ago). In poland a women at that age is considered "unwanted" - i often hear "nikt ją nie weźmie", "nobody will take her/want her". I always get asked, "so when are you getting married", "when will you start having kids" etc. Drives me nuts!

Oh well, i guess its just cultural differences at work.

I'm panicking now ;)

haha It's coming bud, there's no way out of it! :)

News / Oil in Poland [12]

I remember reading about a company that had found some oil in poland and was drilling the area to find the source of that oil. I guess they didn't find anything.

Poland should forget about oil and focus more on clean energy/power.

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

OK...I think Poles have a huge superiority complex. I have mentioned before they love to tell you how smart they are and how much better they are at things. That is what I mean by your comment being ironic.

Interesting. Do you live in the UK?

Okay...we detest you...we can't stand you....you are all just blah!

Feel better now?

:):):)

Yes, thank you.

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

I'm not paranoid, you kraut. I'm just stating a fact.

Don't ask me why krauts hate poles, ask yourself, your parents, or your fellow krauts. Maybe it is a superiority complex??

I'm curious, what is your purpose on this forum? I don't think you live in poland and are clearly not polish. Have you ever even been to poland?

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

Agreed!

Where are the dumb-russian jokes then? Or the "insert any enemy of the Nazis"-dumb jokes??? Why should the Germans have singled out the Poles and busied themselves with inventing jokes about you?

Conclusion: Crap theory!

You germans HATE poles. Always have. Still do. And probably will always feel this way.
I'm not sure how the germans view other nationalities, but poles are treated poorly. I've been to your doucheland a few times, i've seen it. Besides ask any pole how they feel in germany...

News / New Polish Euro Coins [65]

An article in canada's national post regarding poland's euro coins:

John Paul, Chopin or a bottle of vodka? Poles debate euro coin symbols

Reuters
Published: Saturday, October 18, 2008

Should it be Pope John Paul II or Solidarity trade union leader Lech Walesa? Or how about a bison, or a bottle of vodka, or maybe all of the above? The Polish government's announcement last month that it will adopt the euro in 2012 has triggered a debate over who or what should grace its euro coins once they start using the common currency in place of the zloty. "Maybe Pope John Paul II [pictured] would be good for a Polish euro coin. I would also like historic actors, politicians. Definitely not art though, no Chopin please," said Tomek, 25, a bartender in Warsaw. Among those cited in Polish media or on the street are the European bison-- which still roam Poland's primeval forest -- and the white eagle, which is on the country's coat of arms. Other popular candidates are astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus and composer Fryderyk Chopin. The more cynical have proposed a bottle of vodka, Poles' traditional tipple.

A bottle of vodka? How embarrassing. I really hope this is just the author's attempt at a joke...

Life / Is Ritalin available in Poland? [22]

Usually students buy it from children who have diagnosed with ADHD.

An easier way of obtaining ritalin/concerta is by going to a doctor on campus or going to a paki doctor.

Study / University in Poland is too easy [68]

master of tourism

I'm not surprised you think university is easy. This program is a joke.

For instance I studied Chemistry with Biochemistry, had on average 5.5 hours of lectures/lab work and tutorials a day. On top of this you had to prepare for tutorials and write up lab work. To pass you must pass all tutorials, lab work and about 5 exams 3 times a year. Compare this to some other courses where you are lucky if they have 2 hours on average a day of lectures. Although these course expect a lot of additional study. To pass project work and exams can not remember how many.

Engineering is similar.

Life / Is Ritalin available in Poland? [22]

is it addictive?

I didn't find it addictive, but I only took it to help me stay focused when studying for exams - 1 week max. per semester. Any longer than that and I would start feeling "weird" (hard to explain the feeling). It's amazing how much work i would get done when on concerta, kinda makes me wonder what 'd be like if i took the pill everday...

Quite popular among students during exams here.

Life / The people of Poland are wonderful!!! [26]

They treat people like **** at any given US border crossing.

Really??? I cross the Niagara falls border quite often and have never been hassled by a guard. As a matter of fact, ever since the new passport law was introduced the guards usually notice the "place of birth" on my passport and always joke about me smuggling pierogi/golabki across the border.

And ambassador bridge @ windsor/detroit is a joke - they rarely check ID.

I never spend more than 30 sec at the border crossing (well unless there's a line up). From what i can tell only visible minorities have a hard time crossing into the US.

Life / Are the Polish the most proudest people you have encountered? [51]

The proudest people i've ever met were chinese. The seem to hang on to their culture more than the poles do, often times to the point of even refusing to learn english. Most seem to live in predominantly chinese neighbourhoods, eat chinese food and socialise with their own - and very patriotic as well. Poles on the other hand, tend to assimilate and lose their cultre rather quickly.

Take him to church on his name day to be blessed!

I'm just kidding. A name day is much like a birthday, so I suggest you do what you would normally do on his birthday.

UK, Ireland / All That Manners Business [I'm Polish, moved to UK as an au pair.] [87]

I don't ask her how is she when I'm coming over. It's so pointless though, everyone does it here and everyone expects to be asked. Also, they all always answer 'fine, thanks

It's very common and considered polite/friendly to ask someone "how are you?", EVEN if you don't care. It's not only asking how that person is, but it's also saying "hi" (b/c most often people say "hi, how are you?"). This is also a nice way to start some "small talk." I'm not surprised this lady thinks you're rude, in this regard.

Like it or not, you will have to get used it if you plan on integrating into British society (or american, canadian, ...).

Love / I married a Polish girl once. [21]

Seems as though some people did not like my previous post. Yes, it was blunt and to the point, but it is true. The truth hurts? Let me explain myself in more detail.

You see, in the past (thousands of years ago) women were attracted to physically fit men - you know, v-shaped back, legs of steel, broad shoulders, pecs, "guns", abs, etc. Why? Because a strong man was capable of raising the family - ie: build a house, farm the land, protection, work for food/supplies etc. (and yes, women played a major role in the family as well). Remember life was very difficult and physically demanding so being strong was crucial to survival. Over the course of human evolution women have "evolved" into chosing their mates accordingly.

NOW, in the 21st century physical strength is not so important. Why? Because we live in a technological world where many tasks, which once required considerable physical labour, can now be accomplished by the press of a button .... OR even easier ... with $$$$$$.

This is the rationale behind my "dollar sign" post. There is nothing wrong with women being attracted to wealthy men (or financially stable). It's just a product of the improvement of our standard of living and evolution. Makes you wonder what this will develop into in the future...

I realise there are other reasons for women chosing a specific partner (love, personality, chemistry etc), but this is a major point i had to explain (re: my unpopular post).

What are men attracted to in a women, you now ask? Well there are evolutionary reasons for this as well but I'm out of time today.

The live and achievements of polishcanuck.

What? I've been living in canada since the age of 2. I've never worked as a dishwasher (even on a part-time basis during school).

tut tut, Im surprised at such a generalisation off you.

You know what i'm talking about.

Life / 'The Pianist' - the movie. What's your opinion? Polanski [59]

What did you think about the lead actor not being Polish in real life?

I don't think it matters, it's just a movie. But the actor is Jewish and szpilman was a Polish Jew. Close enough.

News / Eat fish you idiot! (EU massive media campaign in Poland) [54]

I think these ads are great. Why would anyone not like them?? Do you people want to look like 1/3 of the US population??? Eat your fish! Eat your veggies! :)

Some woman here in UK went on this 2.5 litres of water a day diet just to end up being brain damaged, she collapsed cos it flushed out minerals from her body or something.

Drinking 2.5 litres of water per day is normal. I easily drink at least that much (mind you i'm quite active). Maybe you're thinking of 2.5 gallons? This is how much a women drank on a radio show in california without urinating - she died.

Love / I married a Polish girl once. [21]

Michaelmansun, you have to be careful with foreign women. Often times they only marry "rich" americans like you for US citizenship and a free ticket out of poverty. When i go to poland i am amazed by how desperate some women are to develop a relationship with foreign men.

News / Demographic twilight of Poland and Europe [14]

Time for a change!!! :)

Yes, an islamic change. Religion is the necessary evil. If you drop one, another will take it's place. It's best to stick with christianity, unless you krauts don't mind changing your lifestyles to be like middle east. Quite different from germany...
