Life / Coming back to Poland after 5 years in UK [14]

I truly belive I made this decision too late

all my friends have their own families and kids around while I don't

Now you understand that money is not everything.

there is not many places to go for a drink etc.

There are plenty of places in poland, especially the big cities, to go out for drinks and some fun. Doesn't krakow have something like 10,000 pubs??

Anyone got the same ? How to overcome this crisis ?

Moving from country to country or even from city to city can create quite a bit of stress. You just need to go out and find some friends - and a man. Being around friends will make your transitition to your new life much smoother.

I'm sure you felt out of place when you first went to the UK but eventually you made friends, found work and were able to adapt to you new life. Going back to poland is no different.

Life / Dog's life or what to expect when living in Poland with a dog [22]

picking after

LOL few people in poland understand this concept. The worst is when all the snow starts melting! All the poop that accumulated over the winter becomes uncovered as the mercury rises, thaws, runs like water over the grass/sidewalks, and the smell of sh!t fills the air. I don't understand why people don't carry a little bag with them when taking their k9's for a walk.

Life / POLES' ENGLISH COMPARED TO EUROPE AS A WHOLE? [39]

I agree with some of the above posters - poles do have poor english language skills. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the polish language being in a different language group (than english) or whether isolation/popularity of russian/german during the commie years had any affect on this. It is quite amazing how well scandinavians speak english though.

Love / POLISH FEMALES PREFERABLE TO MALES? [12]

It seems there is more demand by male foreigners for Polish lasses than by foreign females for Polish lads. Any comments?

Generally speaking, women go for well established men not the other way around. This isn't just limited to poles though - females are the more "choosy" sex, and in this century $ is a desirable trait.

Haven't we already covered this topic? Deja vu anyone?

Life / Are Polish People Hypochondriacs? [50]

Aptekas (Chemists, pharmacists)

I admit that I have "PolishPhysicianPhobia" simply because they hand out medicine like candy. Poland consumes more antibiotics than any other nation in europe! I think it's ridiculous that a doctor prescribes antibiotics to a patient who has only been sick for 1 day (common cold/flu).

A deadly combination of poor pay for docs and greedy pharmaceutical companies are to blame IMO.

Even just check ups

Check ups are a good idea as you age. In canada/usa doctors and governments constantly encourage people to get check for prostate/breast cancers, colon cancer etc.

News / BOOZE & CAR TAX TO AID POLAND'S NEEDY? [23]

(app. $43 million)

I think you're missing a zero after the 3 > $430 mil

I think it's a good idea. People will soon forget about the extra 1/2 zl. It's like with cigarettes in the usa - they tax the bejesus out of them yet people continue to purhcase cigs.

As for the school lunch program, do any other european countries have this? Does it work well? Decent food?

USA, Canada / "A 3 headed monster is born in Canada" [4]

Well not literally, unless of course you are a conservative.
What do you canadians think of a liberal (worst election results in a long time)- NDP (marxists) - Bloc (separatists) coalition? I just can't believe their dealing with the separatist frogs! I wonder what they're getting out of this. Harper has been acting a bit nutty lately but stephan dion as PM?? They were talking about sacking him after that disasterous election and now he is to be PM (well until may, unless he pulls a "harper")?

I'm not taking sides. I just thought the title of the article was interesting and would gather some attention.

Discuss.

Life / What to wear for winter in Poland [51]

I wore them for the Mississauga Santa Clause parade yesterday.

But it was only 1-2 degrees celsius yesterday! How will you dress when the temp drops to 15-20 below zero? :)

News / POLES the BLACKS of EUROPE? [104]

I was wondering if anyone believes there is a connection between blacks and how they are in the usa in financial terms and how Pols live in Europe ?
and culture wise ?

I'll give you an answer, adrian. Our british friends on here don't like these racial topics.

I don't see any connection. You see unemployment, crime and school drop out rates are quite high in the neighbourhoods your talking about. Poles however, tend to work even if it means that have to perform menial jobs. The vast majority of poles that leave poland for w. european countries do so in order to work not go on welfare/unemployment (though i'm sure a small minority do this - there are bad lemons in all countries after all). The situation in the US/canada is similar. Take chicago for example, which has a huge polish population. These poles work/go to school and i've yet to hear about problems regarding widespread crime/unemployment among the polish population.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

I agree with you, kraut. It's actually the germans that are ubersaints, especially during 1939-1945 when they tried to exterminate the jews and work others to death (ask your father/grandfather, they'll fill you in with some details).

News / Captain of hijacked tanker is Polish [71]

These transport vessels will have to arm themselves and hire some kind of security personnel. Hijacking is no longer confined to the somali coast as this vessel was captured off the tanzanian coast. The eastern coast of africa is far too long for anyone to patrol. I'm sure i would be more economical to arm individual ships rather than have navy ships chasing down these buggers.

Love / Such a mess with my polish boy...:( [30]

He has been depressed and his doc gave him antidepressandts.

Ok, Polish doctors scare the bejesus out of me! Their solution to any and every problem is pills. In the case of depression pills can be helpfull, but treatment for depression is most affective by going to a psychologist for some "talk therapy" while taking anti-depressents. I got all this from my buddies old man who is a psychologist.

Life / Uniformed people in Poland - explanation needed. [17]

disgraceful. some of them might be pretty, but they never smile and always seem to be quite miserable and angry. i suspect they might be lesbians.

I disagree. I absolutely love talking to those hotties in military uniform at the airport and can always get them to laugh. Maybe it's a female vs female issue in your case... :)

Love / Dating a Polish guy for the first time ever in my life [22]

I always dated the same kind of guys- rich business types, lawyers, etc...Guys who i had a great lifestyle with- going to 5 star restraunts, hotels, holidays, shopping trips etc.

im certainly no gold digger

Ok.

he cant afford it

his card got declined n pizza hut. i had to pay

he says he loves me and wants to marry me! he told me this after 1 week.

What?? After so many polish female golddigger stories on this forum, could this possibly be the first male golddigger on PF??? I ... ummm ... am ... speechless and totally unprepared.

he is so different to other guys ive met.

What's wrong with different guys? Listen, if you're happy with him stay put and see what happens. Maybe eventually he'll learn english and find a better paying job. Statistically speaking, a high percentage of relationships where the female is wealthier than the male end in failure, but maybe you'll find happiness.

News / Another Case Of Intentional HIV Infections in Poland [73]

I wonder what they will charge him with. What's the penalty in Poland? Here in Canada there is a case where an african man with HIV is being charged with 1st degree murder (2 women actually died) for not disclosing his medical condition before having sex with many women.

Love / Understanding Polish Man [41]

gtd may be right, *OR* he may have started to like you more than a friend recently but knows that you don't feel the same. The arguement is just frustration of wanting something he can't have.

Life / PAYING TO TAKE A PISS IN POLAND, it's BIZARRE [77]

The best is when the toilet lady asks you "number 1 or number 2?" Sometimes it costs more to **** (50 groszy or so more) and you have to tell her or she won't give you any toilet paper!!

Anyways, it doesn't make sense why they have old babcias charging to use the bathrooms!?! Proceeds from sales should be used to keep the bathrooms clean. Heck, raise the price of everything a few pennies to help cover the costs of cleaning. I think it's a ridiculous and extremely weird/bizzare custom. They should think about the tourists.

Love / POLISH GIRLS AND LOOSE JEANS [36]

Time for a baggy revival though, given the way that fashion works in cycles...

Hopefully not in my lifetime.
