UK, Ireland / 2 years in London, maybe it's time to go back to Poland? [60]

even if you are saying 'most' I find it insulting and as an English person why shouldnt I? Cos of course all Polish people have beautiful manners dont they.. some do yes, but certainly not some of the blokes I see on the bus coming home from work. Just another sweeping generalisation of cultural differences.........zzzzzzzzzzzz

UK, Ireland / 2 years in London, maybe it's time to go back to Poland? [60]

Ive heard that a lot of those who went back to Poland are now leaving again as its not as good for them financially as they anticipated. They are either returning to the UK or to another European country. Yes, life can be difficult in the UK, but dont believe that the grass is always greener..there are problems everywhere and moving from place to place isnt going to solve them.

..and people do smile in London, just not when they are on the tube. Imo the Poles generally look more miserable than the average Brit.. theyve always got something to moan about.

Work / british working in Poland with no language [43]

I dont understand why you want to stay in Poland with his parents if he is here in the UK and you dont speak Polish? Its sounds strange to me.

However, in your defence, I think there are some pretty hostile responses here. if posters have posted other threads which have nothing to do with this one, why should people feel it neccessary to find the time to look through these and comment on them if they are irrelevant to the discussion.. regardless of what you might think about the individual, why bother doing this.. its so sad.

UK, Ireland / Questions about obtaining a UK mortgage with Polish girlfriend. [24]

Personally I think now is a great time to buy, definitely for the first time buyer anyway, so long as you can secure a mortgage. When prices come down, they have to go up again.. not sure whether 25% is realistic as an increase, but who can say.

I'm planning to get on the property market in the next 6 months.

UK, Ireland / Questions about obtaining a UK mortgage with Polish girlfriend. [24]

It depends on many things, not just the nationality.. how long you have been here, if you can provide a stable address for some years.. example a friend or relative who has been here for longer and what your line of work is. My partner opened a business bank account and got credit card etc. shortly after arriving in the UK and that was before Poland entered the EU.. but he had friends here who provided an address that they had been at for some years and were able to act as a guarantor. Maybe things are different now with the current credit crunch, but if you are both working and have a joint account I cant see why you couldnt get a mortgage, especially with your bank. Good luck.

Life / Cigarette Smoking in Poland [146]

but why would you even go out with a smoker if you hate it so much? When I didnt smoke I would never have dated a smoker. Once I did and then I started smoking myself, now we are both trying to give up.

Life / 'Second Life' - is it becoming more popular in Poland [10]

excuse me but I do have a real life, I just dip into 2nd life now and again.. although I do know that it can be addictive and people can waste their lives on there, it is not all saddos with nothing better to do. Dont judge something just because you havent tried it or its not for you.

Love / moving to poland to be together is this the right decision? [67]

im my experience Polish in-laws can change their mind about acceptance of their son/daughter's partner constantly according to how they feel on the day. Sounds like you could be in for similar problems. Remember, it is a very hard thing to come between a Polish man and his family and ultimately you will rarely win.

Life / 'Second Life' - is it becoming more popular in Poland [10]

I have come across more Polish people living in Poland in Second Life recently. Does anyone have experience of this, is it becoming more popular in Poland? If so, why? Any thoughts welcome.

Love / What do the Polish guys think about the British girls?? [37]

As a woman I have to say I find it offensive seeing these people walking about with flab hanging out, but Ive seen a fair few fat Africans doing the same - I often wonder if these people have mirrors or friends....

in some cultures being fat is desirable..and men like women who let it all hang out. Obviously not Polish men though. Personally I have just found a quick and easy way to drop a stone in a couple of weeks, get giardia (a parastic stomach complaint) you wont want to eat and anything you do will come straight out...and to get back on topic, my polish man is very happy I am losing weight and probably also that I bought him a car!

Law / UN or NGO's organizations in Poland [7]

I have looked into this as I also work for a NGO and was thinking about relocating. It seems that the UN is really the only option if you want decent paid work. You will need to speak Polish to work for a local NGO and they are often voluntary or very low paid positions. Also depends on what your specific role and skills are.

Love / moving to poland to be together is this the right decision? [67]

could it be that he is worried that it will cause problems with his family? Even if he loves you may they may not accept that you are not Polish, perhaps not Catholic? divorced with children. Is he actually divorced or just separated? Maybe they are hoping he will reconcile with his wife? Just some thoughts based on my own experience. Personally I dont think I would move there if you are not going to be living together or at least have some idea that this would be a possibility in the future. I guess you wont know until you try, but I would go for a visit and meet his family before you make the move.

UK, Ireland / WHAT AREAS IN LONDON ARE POPULAR FOR POLISH PEOPLE TO LIVE IN? [33]

Don't create ghettos and "Little Polands".

Live where you want to live, just read up it first so you don't end up in some inner city hell hole

Thats the best advice you are going to get. Polish people are pretty much everywhere in London and other parts of the UK too. You need to weigh up the cost of living vs the risk factor and whether or not you want to live in an area that has Polish shops, cultural centres etc.. Remember that some areas are a lot cheaper to live in for a reason, that being that you might not feel too safe there. So do a bit of research first before you decide on an area. Out of the 3 you mention I would personally avoid Dalston, having lived there. Its not too safe to walk about at night.

Life / Customer Service in Poland, what are your experiences? [106]

I never considered Poland to be a part of the third world,

nor do I..and dont get me started on the term 'third world' again. I was just comparing customer service levels in different places.

Life / Customer Service in Poland, what are your experiences? [106]

if you think customer service in Poland is bad you should go to some parts of Africa. Having just returned from a business trip to Kenya I have encountered some shocking examples.. I waited 2 and a half hours for my meal in a restaurant where I was the only customer, when it came it was totally the wrong order.. but I ate it anyway.. at another hotel almost 2 hours after ordering I was informed that there was no rice (why it took 2 hours to find this out is beyond me) and they had already made the curry to go with it, which was stone cold.. as it had presumably been sitting for some time waiting for the non existent rice. Besides restaurants, hotel cleaners will enter your room and actually ask you to leave, even if you are in bed, so that they can clean the room. There can be signs for all kinds of credit and debit cards posted all over the hotel, but there is no guarantee that they will take any of them.. they are just there to look nice. The toilet broke in my room and I was told how to try to fix it myself! Of course there are some very nice hotels in Kenya, just that I didnt stay at any of them...guess I need a new job. Sorry this has nothing to do with Poland, just felt like having a rant.

News / Poles learning from the British? [42]

The Brits nicked tea from India and ruin it by putting milk in it.

Actually Indians put milk in it too, its called chai.. and tea originates from China, although India is now the biggest producer. I dont know where vodka orginates from, but would have thought it was Russia........<sharp intake of breath>

Life / How long can I survive with 60.000 zloty in Poland? [13]

US$ 27,767

I will get 27 USD per month right

I think you need to get a better grasp of figures if you are to survive at all! There is a huge difference between 27,000 and 27 which is maybe why you are confused.
