Life / Why do Poles drink so much? [161]

5cl is 50ml so a double for us Brits. That's 1 pint of beer/2 shots of alcohol.

News / Poland Remembers start of WW2 [200]

Norway, a good friend of Scotland's. Long live that relationship brother :)

Britain entered the war on the 3rd of September, that was early enough and well before America.

Life / Why do Poles drink so much? [161]

0.5l is 20 shots so around 10 beers. Most people would be flying around the room after that amount.

Life / Why do Poles drink so much? [161]

Osiedla, 1.5l of vodka is 56 units of alcohol, so 28 pints of beer (UK measures)

Life / Why do Poles drink so much? [161]

The Chinese often make out that they can drink a lot but their builds would suggest otherwise. 1.5l is more than 2x0.7cl bottles. That's absurd.

You sound like a Chinese person, Greg. They come out with that baloney too.

I had 4l last night and it did me good. Gotta love water :)

Life / Why do Poles drink so much? [161]

Sledz is right, there are nations who drink much more. Look at Luxembourg, they topped the list and they are hardly backwards.

Most Poles don't drink that much. The drinkers are likely letting off steam after a stressful day. Some Poles seemingly stress themselves more than they need to I don't work in amongst so many so I can't make a rounded judgement. Any which way, they drink socially and there's nowt wrong with that in moderation.

Love / Polish Male Reputations.... [29]

Some fit the above, some don't. Some are aggressive, some are placid. The ones who are placid get aggressive sometimes and the ones who are aggressive are placid sometimes.

News / The most spectacular errors in Polish politics. [264]

Only according to a very strict canon of interpretation, perhaps, but it was by no means blatant. Nothing like flagrant violations going around at that time.

News / PUTIN'S LETTER HAILED BY TUSK POLISH GOVT [17]

I'd always be careful with Putin although Poland has to cautiously try to work with him. At least he isn't trying to cut deals with the Poles like Bush was.

Putin is stubborn and will relentlessly pursue what he wants. Look at Chechnya for evidence of this. If at first you don't succeed.....

That happens all the time, vetala. International law, at that time, was full of broken promises. They were all building up and should have witnessed trends better.

News / Gazeta Wyborcza: US Backing Off Polish Missile Bases [40]

I'm glad Poland refused the compromise. Talk of missiles based in Kalingrad, although idle threats perhaps, does not augur well for future bilateral relations. Both Russia and America are capable of stabbing Poland in the back so best not appear too pally with either. NATO is Poland's 'guarantee', that's enough involvement. It was based on fraudulent principles anyway. That cow Condo Rice is so insincere. She is a low-life bit*h.

What we must also remember is that recognising Kosovo as an independent state is not recognising it as Albanian. The Albanians think it is theirs and at least Poland didn't support that line. It's more complicated than that.

History / US snubs Poland over WW II ceremony? [75]

It wasn't an outright snub but I'm surprised that they haven't thought about sending Hillary Clinton. That woman makes so many trivial and ineffective trips, she should think about a more symbolic and meaningful one.

News / Poland Remembers start of WW2 [200]

Poland will never forget those who die for their cause. I was in Vilnius, Lithuania, at a major cemetery there. There was an unmarked grave for an unknown soldier who fought and died. He had MANY flowers around his grave. Poland will always commemorate unsung heroes who gave their all for their country.

Poland could have understood what was happening there before taking a position. Many governments didn't recognise Kosovo, not through extensive knowledge of the issue but largely because they didn't understand enough about it.

As ever, tactical voting takes place to snub or complicate. Why did Poland contest Silesia so vigorously? Pawian is right to say that Poland didn't really take it too seriously. Poland is still insular and is yet to really open up fully and take an interest in things which it perhaps could.

Life / Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people [150]

There is often a lot of heart and drive shown (especially when going for breakfast in hotels in the morning, lol). They are aware of their past, often brutally so, but remain strong. It won't only be Poland that'll pay the price either, America's future generations will be stung due to the loose and wild spending in recent times. I think it's time to curb the greed of international corporations and start thinking about living costs for the average Joe or Paweł.

I'd love to see a real wolf. They don't go for the jugular apparently. Don't provoke them and they'll stay away.

Life / Petrol theft in Poland common? [27]

Hehehe, that'd be worthwhile just to see it. We have screwed up laws in Scotland. For example, you can't put down glass on your walls, or barbed wire. If sb wants to trespass, it's their own damn fault but the law doesn't see it that way.

To hell with it, a car with a shockwave buzz sounds cool.

True enough, WB. That wood episode you had was completely unfair. Money grabbing is becoming more and more common here :(

I think you may find that the wolves don't have 4 legs but 2.
