News / Secret CIA Prisons in Poland [54]

For those of you who wish to continue your conversation with Firestud13.
There is a Firestud13 at myspace. He has connections with Ireland and Poland.

But I am not saying that it's the same guy.

Real Estate / Information on buying development sites in Poland [27]

When local people buy land it is for a self-build home, something for the future. Some people are buying land and holding on to it. These people will sell when the market is right for them, which means when foreign folk are allowed to by [without problems].

You have to remember that a lot of people live in council rented property and buying in the suburbs and countryside is seen as an investment.

Something for the future = Polish people pass on property to the next generation.
Development companies don't operate in the countryside, yet. However, local builders might build three or four units on a plot.
Building outside of town has many problems...... no gas supply for example. Plus, you can't build on farmland without good reason.

size of plot I have in mind would be in the order of 1 or 2 hectares.

Most local people are buying plots like this.........10, 20 and even 30km from the centre.

The labour shortage is part myth. It depends what you want doing.

Law / What do Poles think of Chinese products? [49]

The Chinese are able to produce a cheap product with acceptable quality. They can ship it to Poland and still undercut Polish manufacturers. The Chinese are putting some Polish workers on the dole and causing some small businesses to collapse.

I for one can do without you.

Life / Jaywalking in Poland ? [38]

It is obvious that a car going through a red light could cause more damage than a pedestrian. Stopping distance for a car going 50km is about 30m. Stopping distance for a pedstrian travelling 6km an hour is erm 1 metre.

And that's the whole point isn't it. Cars don't go through red lights so you shouldn't try to cross the road in the wrong place. Otherwise you could end up dead.

Life / Doing laundry in Poland [66]

We program the machine for each wash. Some wash cycles are longer than others.

18-20 minutes sounds very, very fast to me.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

"am increasingly becoming concerned that they talk about people when they are standing right in fron of them just because we cant speak polish."

The voice of a paranoid man.

Life / Jaywalking in Poland ? [38]

Am I being petty here. If it is OK for a pedestrian to cross an empty road does that make it OK for me to drive through a red light when the road is clear.

A month ago a child was hit by a car near my house. The crossing was twenty metres away. I wonder if his mother would agree with the above, negative, posters. The zebra crossing is there for a reason.

it has the end result of making a nations people richer.

Not in Wroclaw. The Germans undercut the Polish bids. That could possibly put some Polish workers on the Dole.

Travel / Getting from Wroclaw to Krakow [15]

Travel first class on the train and you'll be OK.

Usually less people, more room. If problems occur it is usually in second class, if at all.

I disagree with the above. But then I never know what is serious and what is not on this forum.
Take the train, five hours, and possibly get robbed.
Or.
Take a cab and get totally fleeced.

News / Some Poles burning American flag [299]

all I can tell I see flags around here even now.

I can't argue with what you can see. It really must depend where you live. I would say that Wroclaw is pretty much flag free at present. I'll try to take more notice when I go out tomorrow, then I'll let you know.

not quite. Look at Polish people. Majority of them hang out national flags whenever they can.

Not quite true. The flags on many dwellings are put up by the local council. And only on special days.
The last time the publiic drapped flags all over the place was during the last World Cup.

It's about 200zl fine if you get it wrong. If you are in a group [among other members of the public] the first person to set foot on the road, when he shouldn't, is fined.

The reason. Other people will blindly follow, and possible tragedy.

It's similar in Germany.

It works in your favour here after 10:00pm when there is no red or green, only amber for cars.

It's also worth knowing that if you ride a bike across a crossing [pavement to pavement] you will get a fine too.
