Language / need help to spell a name of a famous Polish singer.... [120]

How old am I? Let's figure this out:
I'm old enough to drink, but I don't.
I'm old enough to watch x-rated movies, but I don't.
And I'm too old to remember how old I am.
So that must make me VERY old, about 78, 79. Can't remember.

How old are you?

News / sending a letter to poland [33]

Hey kitten! WOW! That's a beautiful drawing!!!! That is really good! You have the talent!!!
Remember, they had a strike not long ago in the major cities, so now they are so swamped with mail, adding to it the Christmas cards, that it might take a little longer.

Let us know when he gets it and what he says!!!

Love / So... How did you meet your Polish girlfriend/wife? [30]

Sounds like my x-husband too! As soon as the first child was born, he felt abandoned. He became jealous of the child and would constantly say: "I want my wife back". " I want my wife back". Before the child was born I would buy him expensive gifts ( A nice snowmobile amongst other things which he kept after he filed for divorce.)

He was American, high-maintenance spoiled little mama's boy. Big Baby.

You probably mailed it air-mail too, but maybe because of all the mail, it takes longer. So wait a little bit yet.

10 days seems long, but with the christmas rush it could still show up. Did you insure it or get a tracking number on it?

Love / My Polish boyfriend is a mamas boy what should i do? [28]

Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. My mom is like that too. When I met my now x husband, I went over to his house. We didn't do anything, but my mom was looking for me and when she found out where I was, she started crying and calling me names and then she called my x-boyfriend up and started calling him names, etc.

Two things could happen:
1. Your boyfriend has to make a definite decission and tell his mother that he wants to get out on his own. It will be a big shock to his mother. She will blame you and him and everybody in the world.

2. Once his mother sees that he's happy with you, she will come to realize that that's what's best for him. But that will take some time.

Remember, this is her baby and she thinks of you as competition. She has to let her son go, he cannot live with her forever and she has to realize that.

How old is your boyfriend? And is his mom Polish?

USA, Canada / Polish Family in US or other countries to practice traditional customs [9]

You are allergic to fish. Some are allergic to peanuts and can die if eaten. Some to cats....
You could probably substitute fish with a vegetable, or maybe crab? In the US they eat chicken and ham for Christmas Eve dinner, you'll just have an American type wigilia.

11 course!!!!!

Hahahahahahaha Didn't realize that.

Our family shares the "opłatek" before the meal on Christmas Eve - called Wigilia. After the 11 course meal we sing Christmas carols and then we "suddenly" notice presents under the tree and yell: Santa Clause was here! we open the presents on Christmas Eve.

Love / Are you in a Polish-nonPolish relationship? [150]

we argue all the time about some of the things in my religion and he still doesnt take into consideration to even learn about it!! we're planning to get married in about 2 years but im afraid this religious issue will cause problems.......

it won't work, unless you compromise. accept something from his religion, he can accept something from yours.
If two people deeply love each other, f**ck the religion, don't let that stand in the way of your happiness, because love is more important then the "man-made" religion, which is the cause for wars in the first place.

"Jesteś moim największym szcześciem" - You're my greatest happiness
"Mój Jeden Jedyny" - My One and Only
"Dla Ciebie wszystko" - everything for you
"Tylko Ty dla mnie istniejesz" - only you exist for me

I didn't mean to be so grafic in my earlier reply, because some people are very religious and I didn't mean to refer to it that way. But if a person follows his heart, is moral, does what is right then take the best out of these religions, combine them into one belief which you both agree upon. You both believe in God, a higher being, then try to find similarities there. Even the catholic religion differs in their beliefs. I was brought up Polish Catholic, my "X" American Catholic, and believe it or not, there are many differences between these two.

So just take the best out of both of these religions and go from there, because it is your life, your love and no one should tell you what you should do, as long as you know it is morally right and love is the most important thing in life.

USA, Canada / Polish Dog Trainer from Chicago area / Dog Lessons [37]

Here's one place, but they teach in english. But maybe if you talk with the trainers, they will do the commands in Polish. I know dogs that were trained in German.

I don't train guard dogs. Just the basic odbedience: sit, stay, daj łapę, waruj, zostań, nie rusz, szukaj, daj głos, etc. Oh, my dogs know what 'bierz go' means, but it's only to chase the horses. I also tought my collie to get the paper and shut the door. I used kiełbasa for that. I would stuff kiełbasa on the door handle and she had to jump on the door to shut it. I didn't tell my mom I did that, and one day when the door was open, my mom got up to shut it, and I told my dog to shut it. And was she ever shocked!!!

Are you getting a boy or a girl? Are going to register it with the AKC? That's what I'm going to do. Not sure yet what sex, because it all depends on the pedigree. And even if you get someone train your dog in english, once he knows the stuff, you can give him two commands, one in Polish the other in english and he will learn quick.

Hey Bartlomiej, I'm getting a long-coat german shepherd from Poland next year. I think they are smarter and better-looking than the US. The long-coat variety is very popular in Poland, not as much in the US, and the ones here go for a lot. What kind you getting? Let me know. I'll be training mine myself in both languages. I had a collie who was trained in both English and Polish. I'll check around who trains them in Chicago area.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

The INS (there's one in Minnessota) will ask very personal questions, like: What side of the bed you slept? what color underware each had? when was the last time you had sex? They take them into different rooms and see if their stories match.

They could come unanounced at any time, so should have some pictures of both of them together.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

If he's in the US on a tourist visa and if it didn't expire yet, then he should get married ASAP before it does, because that way he will get an extension to stay and apply for an imigrant visa as a spouse and it will all be legal.

If the visa is expired, then when he does get married, the INS will come back to him saying his visa expired and they will say he could get deported unless he can prove that it would have a damaging effect on others, in this case the wife.

He can stay in the US when papers are filed. And he should, because he might not be able to return to the US if he leaves. Even if his visa is good for 10 years, I've heard cases when people were turned back at the border for something.

So once he's legally married, and has his green card - which he would normally get after about a year of marriage - then he is legally aproved by the goverment. And after 3 years of marriage, he can apply to become a citizen.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

Once it is proven, that it was not a bona fide marriage, he will get deported back to Poland. No ifs, buts or whats about it.

NO! NO! NO! she should not go to Poland to marry him!!!
1.) if she is not a Polish citizen, she would have to wait over a month to be accepted by the Polish Court to agree for a foreigner to get married.

2.) If she is a Polish citizen, you would still have to wait a month for a wedding date.
3.) If she marries a Polish Citizen in Poland, she has to file papers in the US for a Spouse Visa. This is a long process, because it is an immigration visa. This takes very long, over 9 months, because with this type on visa, he gets the green card and all the formalities are taken care of.

4.) The best way is to apply for a Fiance Visa. You have to do this in the US. Not in Poland. This process takes about 6 months, after which he will come to the US and you have 90 days to get married. If you do not marry in 90 days, he gets deported back to Poland. This is the best legal way to get a fiance over.

5.) If he does get a tourist visa and you marry him in the US, you will be together quicker, but then you have to file different papers, and the US goverment frowns on such cases.

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

I noticed that people who drink excessively, who smoke, take drugs are the ones who have low self-esteem, because they are covering up the reality of life by engaging in an activity, which gives them a sense of being confident. But that only lasts for a while. Once it wears out, they need to get drunk again or take those drugs to get a "high". They live in a very small world, while the real world is passing them by.

Genealogy / Wiesczcyk Poles living in Australia [9]

I know it's spelled wrong.
Could come from the word "Wieszać" which means "Hanging", but most likely comes from the word " Wieszcz" which is a seer, diviner, soothsater, prophet. It also means an inspired poet.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

I know that movie very well, but it had a sad ending. The INS figured out it was fake, and back to France he went. He was nice. Ugly, but nice. But then again, who am I to criticize ugly people. I'm very ugly too, so who cares what a person looks like.

As long as they lay good eggs.
