I know it's spelled wrong.
Could come from the word "Wieszać" which means "Hanging", but most likely comes from the word " Wieszcz" which is a seer, diviner, soothsater, prophet. It also means an inspired poet.

Gday Todd..I live on the Gold Coast. Try National Archives of Australia..My families imigration records are in there. May add to your family history!!

After that there are some genealogical sites on the web that can help with your name.

I am Polish I live in Poland and I would say that your orgin name should have been "Wieszczyk" and it is from word "wieszcz" - means more or less "poet". I hope you will find sb in Gold Coast with polish roots. I met some australians and they impressed me. ...good luck :)

Hey Elac,
I'm Polish and i live in the USA with the spelling Wieszczyk. I was just wondering where the Wieszczyk's came from in Poland. My grandparents came over by ship around the 1900's or 1910's and settled in Niagara Falls, NY. My email is twzyk1@yahoo if you would like to talk sometime.
